Spotlight: Mr. Darcy

Fitzwilliam Darcy (Pride and Prejudice)

Played by Colin Firth (absolutely perfectly!). And we started with a picture from my favorite scene too!

"In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

"My good opinion once lost, is lost forever.”

"You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.”

If those last four pictures didn't leave you with a happy feeling...you've got problems.

Jane Austen Day: Spotlight: Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth

(note: this is a special and different spotlight post, since it's part of Jane Austen Day and The Ultimate Book Bash. So there are two people here. :)

Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)

Played by Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

*sigh* Look at those smiles... love Darcy's. :)

Love.

Movie: King's Speech

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Main characters: King George VI, Lionel Logue
Genre: Sort of a documentary.
Primary actors: Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle, Geoffery Rush, Helena Bonham-Carter
Length: Almost two hours
Based on: King George VI's speech problem
Time period: 1920's and 30's
Quote(s): Definitely some good ones. :)
Year it came out: 2010
My overall opinion: I enjoyed it! I should mention that this movie is rated R for language. However, this language is in two short clips (amounting to around 30 seconds all together). The sound can be totally turned down for this. Mom watched it with me, and took care of that, and I missed it all! Otherwise, it's pretty much totally clean. Great movie, and I recommend it.

Movie: The King's Speech

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Main characters: Prince Albert "Bertie" (Later to be King George VI), Elizabeth, Lionel Logue, David (Later to be Edward VIII)
Genre: Drama
Recognizable actors: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Gambon, Jennifer Ehle, Derek Jacobi
Length: 118 minutes
Based on: Real Life story on Prince Albert/George VI's stammer
Time period: 1930's, 1940's
Year it came out: 2010
Story: Prince Albert (or Bertie) has struggled his whole life with a stammer. His wife, Elizabeth, finds out about speech therapist Lionel Logue and Bertie starts to go to him.  Rated R
My overall opinion: Love this movie! Colin Firth's Best Actor Oscar is well deserved for his role as King George VI! There is some talk about a scandal and some swearing, but The King's Speech was very well acted and a great movie!
There may be some concern about the R rating, so I'll explain that now. It's rated R for language: one of the exercises Lionel has Bertie do to relieve stress is to use swears to relieve stress because when Bertie is angry, he stammers less; so Bertie unleashes a whole string of big swears that aren't aimed at anyone to relieve stress. The scene is fairly easy to see coming (the line "Do you know any swears?" makes it easy to spot). There is also another scene right before a big speech where there are a couple more swears dropped. Mainly, there are two scenes where the big swears are concentrated: the rest of the movie doesn't have too many swears in it.

Helena Bonham Carter as Queen Elizabeth (Future Queen Mum)

Elizabeth, Bertie, and Lionel during a speech exercise

Lionel, Myrtle Logue (Lionel's wife), and Bertie. Jennifer Ehle, known for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice (1995), plays Myrtle and is in this picture with P&P co-star Colin Firth.

A table that I made for my review at Elegance of Fashion. The King's Speech did a really great job at making their actors look like their real life counterparts.

New Banners!

Elegance of Fashion (find her blog here) has recently created some more wonderful banners! These first ones are my favorites, since they're from some of my favorite movies. :) Oh, and you can click on the banners to see them larger. For those of you (though I doubt there are many) who don't recognize it, it's Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, and then Elizabeth and Darcy.

Then one from Emma. (Love the movie...)

She also made one of Sherlock Holmes. I haven't seen the movies, but the books are very good.

The next new one is from Oliver Twist. I haven't seen the movie either (though I once tried to read the book) but for some reason I really like it. Maybe it's the colors...I'm not sure. But any way you look at it, Elegance of Fashion is great at making these!

Now please, remember to check out Elegance of Fashion's blog!

Male Doubles: Post 1

Hey everyone! First, thank you SO much for all the doubles you gave me when I asked for help! Your assistance is what made this first post possible. :) Second, I got so many doubles that I have to seperate them somehow, and the easiest way was by male and female. But even that was long, so this first post has five male actors and the roles that I or you would know them from. There will be another males post, and then some female ones. I'm not sure how many more male and female ones may come, we'll see how many doubles I find! If you have any ideas or suggestions for the future, please let me know. :) Oh, and also please let me know if any pictures are wrong!!!! Since I haven't seen some of these, that's a real possibility. Thanks again! Okay. Here we go.
