Movie: The Terminal

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8

Genre: Comedy, life

Primary actors: Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones

Length: Two hours

Time period: Present

Rating: PG-13 (though IMHO, it deserves more of a PG rating)

Year it came out: 2004

My overall opinion: It’s a heart-warming movie, that’s meant to be a comedy but is a little too heart-touching to be that! It really ambles along quite peacefully, sprinkled well with humor and moments to make your heart smile. There is a little swearing, hence the rating, but for the most part, I’d recommend this one if you need a relaxing, easy-to-watch film.

Movie: My Big Fat Greek Wedding

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8

Genre: Chick-flick, family (yeah…this movie has a lot of family…just sayin’), comedy

Primary actors: A lot of Greek people…

Length: Two hours

Time period: Present. Or maybe the 80s? Or 90s? Hereabouts.

Year it came out: 2002

My overall opinion: I had very high hopes for this movie considering how popular it is, but was a little disappointed. The comedy wasn’t bad, indeed, the movie overall wasn’t bad. But I didn’t LOVE it or find it super outstanding. It was good. It wasn’t awesome. And I don’t desperately want to watch it again. However, I’m glad I did see it once – and while I’d say that you don’t really need to see it, you probably won’t hate it. Unless you hate chick-flicks. Then, never mind.

Movie: Monsters, Inc

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5

Genre: Comedy, animated, kids’ movie

Series or set: Just classic Pixar

Primary actors: Billy Crystal

Length: One and a half hours

Year it came out: 2001

My overall opinion: Fun and funny! Not super amazing, but an enjoyable watch. The part where the little green guy (I'm awful with their names) inserts his contact...hilarious!

Movie: Father of the Bride

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Genre: Comedy, family
Primary actors: Elizabeth Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett
Length: One and a half hours
Time period: 1950s
Year it came out: 1950
My overall opinion: It was funny and not-too-long and rather cute! I did enjoy seeing the clothes that they wore back then…and it was interesting to see Elizabeth Taylor in this almost demure part – I’m used to her as Kate in Taming of the Shrew. A very clean, family-friendly movie, as far as I can remember, and while I didn’t love it, it was an enjoyable watch. :)

Movie: Singin' in the Rain

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Main characters: Don, Cosmo, Kathy
Genre: Musical, comedy (somewhat), life, romance
Primary actors: Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds
Length: Not quite 2 hours
Based on: I believe it was inspired by the song "Singin' in the Rain" but other than that...
Time period: 1920's
Year it came out: 1952
My overall opinion: I enjoyed it a lot! Some of the costumes on the women were way too much leg, and I seem to remember reading that some of the dancing was a bit sensual (though I didn't notice that it was terrible), but other than that, this was a really fun movie! The songs, like Singin' in the Rain, Good Morning, Make 'em Laugh, All I Do Is Dream of You, they've been running through my head constantly ever since. :) Definitely catchy! I recommend this movie.

Oh, fast fact. Cyd Cherisse, who stars as the sweet and pretty heroine in Brigadoon, (one of my favorite films) was also in this one. However, she was a much different character. One of my least favorites in the movie.

Movie: The Princess Protection Program

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Main characters: Rosie, Carter, Chelsea
Genre: Adventure, teen, a little comedy, life
Series or set: Disney
Primary actors: Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato
Length: Not sure, probably around 2 hours
Time period: Present
Exciting events: An evil dictator and evacuated princess, mean teen girls
Quote(s): I'll eat carbs before I see her wearing my crown!
Year it came out: 2009
My overall opinion: It was fine. I didn't notice anything really wrong with it. Now, it is a "chick flick" type of thing and includes teen romance a little. But it was funny sometimes, and quite fun.

Movie: The Taming of the Shrew

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Main characters: Petruchio, Katharina
Genre: Comedy, romance
Primary actors: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton
Length: About 2 hours.
Based on: The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare
Time period: 1500's
Exciting events: Chases and taming
Quote(s): Of all things living, a man's the worst!
Year it came out: 1967
My overall opinion: It's a good movie! There are some things that aren't for young viewers, and I recommend that you read about it here before watching. I'd say have your parents watch it first just in case. And the dresses are very immodest...well, like they are on the cover. I suppose they could be worse. However, it follows Shakespeare's story and is very fun!

Movie: The Music Box

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5
Main characters: Laurel, Hardy
Genre: Comedy
Series or set: Well, it's sort of in a series of short movies. But it's not a series, more a set.
Primary actors: Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy
Length: 30 minutes
Time period: 1930's
Exciting events: Several, to say the least.
Quote(s): Walk around? Me? Professor Theodore Von Schwarzenhoffer? M.D., A.D., D.D.S., F.L.D., F.F.F. und F. should walk around? Get that thing out of the way! Go on, out of the way!
Year it came out: 1932
My overall opinion: Many people think this is Laurel and Hardy's best film. I've gotta admit, it's definitely on of the best ones! It is absolutely hilarious and even the youngest person will be able to see the humor! It's almost painful to watch. Hightly recommended!

Movie: Little Rascals

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 7
Main characters: Spanky, Alfalfa, Darla, Porky, Buckwheat, Butch, Woim, Waldo
Genre: Comedy, kids, growing up
Primary actors: Travis Tedford, Bug Hall, Kevin Jamal Woods, Zachary Mabry
Length: About one hour, 20 minutes
Based on: I think it's sorta based on the older Little Rascal movie episodes. Actually, I'm pretty sure it is.
Time period: Present
Exciting events: Chases, fire, fights
Quote(s): I'll just tell you that there are a bunch of good ones!

Year it came out: 1994
My overall opinion: It's a good movie! There is some kissing between kids who are about 10, and a few mentions of body parts, but otherwise it's quite clean. Oh, and some name calling. Though there aren't any bad words. All in all, we kids enjoy it and laugh over it a lot. There are some really funny lines!

Strega Nona

Author: Tomie de Paola
Genre: Story with a moral, children, comedy
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8

Type: Children's book
Time period: Unknown
Main characters: Strega Nona, Big Anthony
Exciting events: Too much pasta!
Passage from book: Big Anthony rushed in and shouted the magic words again, but the pot kept bubbling. He took the pan off the floor, but pasta kept on pouring from it. Big Anthony grabbed a cover and put it on the pot and sat on it. But the pasta raised the cover, and Big Anthony as well, and spilled on the floor of Strega Nona's house.
My overall opinion: I gave this book an eight because it was pretty funny. Make that very funny. Any kid will love it (and maybe the adults too?).

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Main characters: Algernon, Jack, Gwendolen, Cecily, Miss Prism
Genre: Romance, comedy
Primary actors: Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Frances O'Connor, Reese Witherspoon
Based on: The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
Time period: 1800's
Exciting events: The name changes, the humor in general!
Quote(s): See the post on the book.
Year it came out: 2002
My overall opinion: A good movie! Follows the book very closely, using many quotes from it. I enjoyed it! On a side note...I like Colin Firth better as the 1995 Mr. Darcy than as this weird guy.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Author: Oscar Wilde
Genre: Romance, comedy
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5
Type: fiction.

Time period: 1800's
Main characters: Algernon, Jack, Earnest, Cecily, Gwendolen, Lady Bracknell, Miss Prism, Chasuble
Exciting events: The name confusion, the relationships
Passage from book or back cover: Algernon: Please don't touch the cucumber sandwiches. They are ordered specially for Aunt Augusta [Takes one and eats it] Jack: Well, you have been eating them all the time. Algernon: That is quite a different matter. She is my aunt.
Cecily: I hope your hair curls naturally, does it? Algernon: Yes, darling, with a little help from others.
My overall opinion: This was a great book. I highly recommend it. I think it may be the funniest book I've EVER read. Enjoy!
