This week I also painted Kyra, Iconic Cleric, from the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set. The painting of her completes that set. It now joins the list of completed sets over on the right.
She looked to me to be suitably clothed for adventures in a cold environment, so since I am short on Templar type figures for Frostgrave, I decided to paint her as such a figure for my Frostgrave collection. She would have also made a good Thaumaturge wizard or apprentice; but since I already had a set of those in my collection, I chose to stick with the Templar plan.
Unfortunately, this is one of the figures from the Bones I Kickstarter that ended up with nose issues. For gaming purposes this doesn't bother me too much, and I crossed my fingers and hoped a nice heavily highlighted nose paint job would hide the fact that she barely had one.
I prepped the figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish- soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it. I then glued the figure to a white-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then glued the washer-mounted figure to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of the Elmer's glue.
I began by giving the figure a wash with Reaper "Brown Liner" using a wet brush. This was to help bring out the details so I could see them better. When that was dry, I painted all the chainmail Black. When that was dry, I drybrushed the chainmail with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey". Next, I painted her face and hands with Accent "Mustard Seed". Then I painted her long sleeves with Aleene's "Deep Khaki", and the one odd short sleeve on her right arm with Americana "Terra Cotta".
Next, I painted her robes, pants, and turban with Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White". I then painted her short sleeves, sash, and head scarf with Crafter's Acrylic "Christmas Red" and her scabbard with Apple Barrel "Apple Maroon". After that, I painted her shoes, pouches, and belt with Apple Barrel "Burnt Sienna". I then painted everything I planned to paint gold with a base coat of Accent "Golden Harvest".
When the "Golden Harvest" was dry, I painted over it with Ceramcoat "Bronze". I also painted the sword blade with the "Gunmetal Grey". I let those dry for a while, and then gave the entire figure a wash with Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush.
When the wash was dry, I painted her eyes, and then highlighted her skin with a mix of the "Mustard Seed", and Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh". I then highlighted her short sleeves, sash, and head scarf with Americana "Cadmium Red".
Next, I highlighted her robes, pants, and turban with White. I then highlighted the scabbard with Ceramcoat "Bright Red", and her shoes, belt and pouches with some of the "Burnt Sienna" mixed with some White. After that I highlighted all the parts I had painted with the "Bronze" using Ceramcoat "14K Gold". I then highlighted her sword blade, and the chainmail with some Folk Art "Silver Sterling". Lastly, I painted the figure's integral base with White.
When everything had overnight to dry, I gave the figure a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" early the next morning. Midday, I flocked the white areas with Woodland Scenics "Snow" flock and the next day I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote.
I like how she turned out. You can still tell the nose isn't quite right, but I think the rest of her makes up for it. And on the tabletop, who will notice?

Lem, Iconic Bard: Figure 246 of 266
Over the weekend I finished up Lem, Iconic Bard, from the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set. I'm happy to say that completing this figure marks the 20 figures remaining point of my goal. It also means just one figure remaining in the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set.
I prepped the figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish- soap added, then giving it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsing and drying it. I then glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then glued the washer-mounted figure to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of the Elmer's glue.
I began by giving the figure a wash with Reaper "Brown Liner" using a wet brush. This was to help bring out the details so I could see them better. When that was dry, I painted all his skin with Americana "Mocha". Next, I painted his pants with Americana "Sable Brown", and then painted his shirt with Americana "Dove Grey", and his coat with Ceramcoat "Black Cherry".
Next, I painted the lining and facings on his coat with Accent "Golden Harvest", and then painted his sash with Crafter's Acrylic "Purple Passion". After that I painted his large pouch with Crafter's Edition "Spice Brown", and the smaller pouch next to it with Apple Barrel "Burnt Sienna". I also painted the knife handle with Accent "Raw Umber". and his bandaged hand with Americana "Bleached Sand". At that point I realized he had bare feet, and I painted those with the "Mocha".
I pulled out the "Purple Passion" again and gave him spats that matched his sash; then I painted his hair with Folk Art "Dark Brown". Next, I painted the knife blade and flute with Folk Art "Silver Sterling". I then hit his necklace with some Ceramcoat "Bronze". Then, after everything had a while to dry, I experimented with giving the figure a wash again with the "Brown Liner" applied with a wet brush, instead of my usual Citadel "Agrax Earthshade". I wasn't very happy with how it dried, as it ended up making the figure look really dirty.
Next, I painted his eyes, and then highlighted his skin with the base "Mocha"; and followed up by highlighting his hair with the "Sable Brown". I then highlighted his shirt with White, and his coat with a mix of Americana "Burgundy Wine" and Crafters Acrylic "Tutti Frutti". Then I highlighted his pants and large pouch with Americana "Khaki Tan", and his jacket lining and facings with Apple Barrel "Yellow". After that I did his sash and spats with Apple Barrel "Apple Lavender" and then did his bandaged hand with Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White". Lastly, I highlighted his flute and knife blade with the Silver Sterling", then painted his integral base with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
I let the figure dry over night and the next day I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" and, when dry, flocked the base. Another overnight dry, and I sprayed it with Testor's Dullcote".
Well, he's not my best or favorite figure, but he's serviceable for gaming purposes. It's such an odd little figure, it will be interesting to see if I ever have cause to use him in a game.

Ezren, Iconic Wizard: Figure 245 of 266
This week I painted up Ezren, Icon Wizard, from the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set. Like Monday's figure, which I decided to turn into a Fire-themed Elementalist, this one I felt would serve as a good Elementalist too, but an Air-themed one. He just had a very wind blown look about him, and I thought I could accent that by painting some wind designs on his clothing.
I began by giving the entire figure a wash with Reaper MSP "Blue Liner" using a wet brush. When the Liner was dry, I painted his face and hands with Folk Art "Dark Brown". I then painted his long sleeve under shirt with Crafter's Acrylic "Cool Blue", and then the short sleeve under shirt with Crafter's Acrylic "Navy Blue". Next, I painted the top tunic with Folk Art Cloudy Day".
I then painted his boots, wrist guards, and crossbow bolt pouch with Americana "Zinc". Next, I painted his leather armor pieces with Americana "Wedgewood Blue", and then the border of his tunic with Americana "True Blue". I followed that by painting his hair with Americana "Dove Grey".
Next, I painted his staff with Folk Art "Barn Wood"; and then did the tubular case on his left, and the small pouch on his right with Crafter's Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey". I also painted the cross bow with Americana "Asphaltum", and the bolts and the crossbow string with Americana "Khaki Tan". I painted some of the dangles from his belt with Folk Art "Metallic Blue Sapphire", and the then went back and repainted the sleeves of the long sleeve under shirt with Folk Art Pearl "Aqua Moire". I also overpainted the border of the tunic with Folk Art Extreme Glitter "Hologram".
After everything had a while to dry, I gave the entire figure a wash with Citadel "Nuln Oil" wash using a wet brush". When the wash was dry, I painted his eyes, and then highlighted his skin with a mix of the "Dark Brown", and Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh".
I then highlighted the hair with White and then moved to highlighting his long sleeved shirt with the base "Aqua Moire", and the short sleeve shirt with the "True Blue". Next, I highlighted his tunic with some of the base "Cloudy Day" mixed with some White. After that, I used the White to paint various spiral wind symbols on his tunic. I then highlighted his staff by drybrushing it with the base "Barn Wood".
Next, I painted all the belts and unpainted pouches with Black, and when dry, I highlighted them with Ctadel "The Fang". After that, I highlighted his leather armor with some of the base W'edgewood Blue" mixed with a bit of the "Cool Blue", and then highlighted his boots, bolt pouch, and wrist guards with some of the "Storm Cloud Grey". I highlighted the tube thing, and the the large pouch with some of the "Dove Grey", and the crossbow bolts with the base "Khaki Tan". Next, I highlighted the sleeve and bottom borders of his tunic with some of the base "True Blue" mixed with some of the "Cool Blue". When that was dry, I went back over it with some of the "Hologram" glitter paint. I then painted the ends of the tube thing, the fittings on the crossbow, and the beer stein-looking object at his side with Ceramcoat "Metallic Pewter", and then highlighted these parts with Folk Art "Silver Sterling". Lastly, I painted the figure's integral base with White.
When everything had overnight to dry, I glued a couple pieces of light blue sea glass to his base. After the glue dried, I drybrushed the glass lightly with White, and then gave the figure a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish". The next day, I flocked the base with Woodland Scenics "Snow" flock and the next day I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote. When the Dullcote was dry, I went back and repainted the sea glass with Americana "DuraClear Gloss".
I'm really happy how he turned out. My hope was that he would read as "Air", and not as "Water". It was a risk with using so much blue; however I think it comes across as "Air" enough, so I'm satisfied. Here are the two Elementalist together: Fire and Air.

Seltyiel, Iconic Magus: Figure 244 of 266
Over the weekend I finished up the first of the Iconics II Pathfinder Miniatures set: Seltyiel, Iconic Magus. I've slowly been trying to create a Wizard and Apprentice pair for each of the 10 schools of magic from the Frostgrave core rulebook, and one of the ones I haven't done yet is the Elementalist type. I thought this guy might make a good fire-based Elementalist, so decided to go that direction with my painting.
I began by giving the entire figure a wash with Reaper MSP "Brown Liner" using a wet brush.
When the Liner wash was dry, I began painting by doing his skin with Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh". Next, I painted his coat with Americana "Asphaltum", and then painted the lining with Crafter's Acrylic "Orange Spice".
I then painted his waist hanging with Apple Barrel "Yellow", and then ll his armor bits with Citadel "Snakebite Leather". Next, I painted his sash with Ceramcoat "Opaque Red"; and then did his dagger scabbard, side scabbard, pouch, and bottle holder all with Apple Barrel "Burnt Sienna". I then painted the scabbard around back with Ceramcoat "Black Cherry", and his boots and weapon grips with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
Next, I painted his hair with Apple Barrel "Apple Maple Syrup", and then painted the bottle at his waist with Crafter's Acrylic "Purple Passion". I then painted all the little studs and buckles, the hilt of the sword, and the fittings on the scabbards, all with Accent "Mustard Seed". I then went back and repainted all these with Ceramcoat "Bronze".
After everything had a while to dry, I gave the entire figure a wash with Citadel "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush. When the wash was dry, I painted his eyes; and then highlighted his skin with the base "Flesh", and then mixed in a little Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White" to do lighter highlights. I then highlighted his hair with Americana "Buttermilk", and then used a little of the "Light Antique White". After that, I highlighted his coat with a mix of Folk Art "Barn Wood" and the original "Asphaltum".
Next, I highlighted the coat's lining with a mix of the base Orange Spice", and some Crafter;s Acrylic "Pure Pumpkin". I then highlighted all the leather armor using a mix of the base "Snakebite Leather", and some of the Apple Maple Syrup" I had used on the hair. I highlighted the sash with Americana "Cadmium Red", and the waist hanging with Crafter's Acrylic "Daffodil Yellow". Then I highlighted the little bottle with a mix of the base "purple Passion", and some Apple Barrel "Apple Lavender". Next, I began work on the flaming bird spell effect in his hand by painting his hand and the bottom of the bird with Apple Barrel "Lemon Chiffon". I tried to feather it down his forearm a little.
Next, I used some of the "Daffodil Yellow" working out from the "Lemon Chiffon", both up the body of the bird, and along the edges of the "Lemon Chiffon" on his forearm. After that I used some of the "Yellow", working up the body of the bird and out across the underside of his wings; and then Americana "Tangerine", and then the "Orange Spice". I followed this with some of the "Cadmium Red", and lastly along the tips of the wings and tops of the birds horns, some Ceramcoat "Black Cherry". I then went back and added highlights to his fingers with plain "White".
I then painted his sword blade with Americana "Zinc". After that I went back and added highlights to the parts I had painted with the "Bronze", using Ceramcoat "14K Gold". And I followed up that by painting the sword blade with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey". I then highlighted the blade with Folk Art "Silver Sterling".

Mystic Theurge: Bones II Figure
This week I painted up the Mystic Theurge figure from the Bones II Pathfinder Heroes Set. My plan is to use him as a Soothsayer type wizard's apprentice for Frostgrave.
Since I joined the Reaper Forums about a year ago, I found I was reading a lot of high praise for the Reaper brand of Liners, which are a kind of mix between and ink and wash. From what I read, they are reported to be great as a kind of "primer" coat of Bones as they really show off the details as well as shade the figure. So, I finally broke down recently and ordered a triad of the Brown, Grey, and Blue. I thought I would take this opportunity to try out the "Grey" Liner, so I gave the entire figure a wash with it using a wet brush. I then painted the hands and head with GW "Vermin Brown".
Next, I painted the under robes with Apple Barrel "Apple Scotch Blue", and the outer jacket with Crafter's Acrylic "Purple Passion".
I then painted the belts around his waist with Crafter's Acrylic "Navy Blue". I also used the "Navy Blue" to paint the left hand side of the scarf, and blended it in with Accent "Golden Harvest on the right hand side. My idea is to eventually make it look like it transitions from night to day. When dry, I gave his whole body a wash with GW "Badab Black" wash using a wet brush.
Next, I worked on the book hanging at his side. I painted the pages with Americana "Bleached Sand" and the cover with Americana "Bittersweet Chocolate". The two wands were painted with Crafter's Acrylic "Cinnamon Brown", the stones on their tips were painted with Crafter's Acrylic "Deep Red", and Folk Art Platinum Grey", and the sting wraps were painted with "Americana "Khaki Tan". I then painted the shoes, belts, all the pouches, and the right end of the scarf, were painted with Black. Next, I painted the medallion around his neck, the buckle on his book strap, and some highlights on the right center of the scarf with the "Golden Harvest".
I continued with the "Golden Harvest", painting the bracelet on his right hand, and the object he holds in his hand. I then painted his hair with Black. Next, I re-painted his under gown with Folk Art Pearl "Aqua Moire". Then I highlighted his waist wrap and did highlights on the left center part of the scarf with Americana 'True Blue". I then highlighted his outer tunic with a mix of the "Purple Passion" and Apple Barrel "Apple Lavender". At this point I used Ceramcoat "Bronze" to paint his medallion, book buckle bracelet, and the object in his hand. Then, after everything a while to dry, I gave the book, wands, and his face and hands, all a wash with GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash using a wet brush. I also gave his light blue under robes a wash with Iron Wind Metals "Dark Blue" ink using a wet brush.
When the wash and ink were dry, I work on his face; painting his eyes, and then highlighting his skin with Americana "Terra Cotta". I highlighted his hair and his belts, shoes, and pouches with Citadel "The Fang", and then did lighter highlights on his hair with Folk Art "Cloudy Day". I worked on highlighting the right hand side of his scarf with first Crafters Acrylic "Bright Yellow", then Crafter's Acrylic "Daffodil Yellow," and then Apple Barrel "Lemon Chiffon" at the very end. I also painted the little tab bookmarks in his book with the "Deep Red", and the "True Blue". Next, I highlighted his under-robe with a mix of the "Aqua Moire" and White. I also painted the rock slabs he is standing on with Americana "Zinc".
Next, I highlighted the pages in the book with Crafter's Acrylic "Light Antique White". I highlighted the wands with Americana "Sable Brown", and the cord wraps holding the stones on the ends with the "Bleached Sand". I highlighted the red rock with Americana "Tangerine", and the white rock with White.
I drybrushed the rocks with first Americana "Neutral Grey", then Crafter's Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey", and lastly Folk Art "Platinum Grey". I couldn't quite figure out what the two little rectangles on his chest were, so I painted them as scraps of paper with the "Bleached Sand", and added a little script to them with Black. I then painted the borders of the other tunic, and his necklace, with Folk Art Metallics "Gun Metal", and then highlighted them with Folk Art "Silver Sterling". I highlighted all the parts I had painted "Bronze, using Ceramcoat "14K Gold". Next, I added a moon, stars, and the sun to the scarf using White. I also used the White to tough up the non-rock portions of the base. When everything had overnight to dry, I gave the figure a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish" early the next morning. Midday, I flocked the white areas with Woodland Scenics "Snow" flock and the next day I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote.
I'm happy with how this figure turned out. I think he has a good mystic look to him, and will do good as a Soothsayer.

Valeros, Iconic Fighter: Figure 223 of 266
Over the weekend I finished up Valeros, Iconic Fighter; the last of the Iconics and Officially Licensed Pathfinder Miniatures set I had left to complete. This set now joins the list of completed sets over on the right.
This was another figure from this set that I wasn't particularly fond of. Yes, it has a great dynamic sculpt, but I just found it to be overly busy feeling; with stuff pointing in several different directions, and no real "front"to the figure. So, I thought I would use this figure to do an experiment. I had been thinking a while about trying: painting a figure with mainly inks and washes, and I thought this would be a good opportunity to try it.
So, I prepped the figure in the usual way; soaking it in a dish of water with a couple drops of dish-soap added, then I gave it a light scrub with a soft toothbrush, and then rinsed and dried it. Next, I glued the figure to a black-primed 1" fender washer with Aleene's Tacky glue, and then glued the washer-mounted figure to a tongue depressor with a couple drops of the Elmer's glue.
I began by painting the figure with Ceramcoat "Territorial Beige". I then gave it a complete wash with GW Agrax Earthshade" wash. When that was dry, I drybrushed it with Americana "Khaki Tan".
I then gave his pants a coat of Iron Wind Metals "Dark Blue" ink. When that was dry, I did his tunic with Iron Wind Metals "Dark Green" ink; and when that was dry, I did his leather armor with Iron Wind Metals "Orange" ink.
Next, I did his shoes, and assorted pouches with Winsor Newton "Peat Brown" ink. I then did his quiver and scabbard with Iron Wind Metals "Red" ink", and when dry, I did his bow with Iron Wind Metals "Chestnut Brown" ink. I realized there was still some cloth hanging down which I hadn't done, and I wasn't sure if it was part of the tunis or what, so I gave that a coat of Iron Wind Metals "Mid Green" ink. I then did his hair, mouth and eye sockets, as well as the arrow fletchings, with Vallejo "Black" ink.
I then painted his eyes teeth, and tongue, then did highlights on his skin with a mix of the "Territorial Beige" ,and some Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh". I the painted his swords with Americana Zinc. Next, I painted the arrow fletchings with Crafters Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey". i then went back and painted his swords with Folk Art Metallics "Gunmetal Grey", and followed up with Folk Art Metallics "Silver Sterling" highlights. Lastly, I painted the figure's integral base with Ceramcoat "Walnut".
After the figure had overnight to dry, I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish". When the varnish was dry, I flocked the base, and that evening I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote.
Well, it certainly is an interesting effect. And I can see it useful if you wanted to get a lot of stuff done quick. I don't, however, thinkI will be adopting a new panting style. :)
So, that wraps up the Iconics and Officially Licensed Pathfinder Miniatures set. My plan is to do another four Orcpocalypse figures for next week, and then start in on the Pirates set.

Seoni, Iconic Sorceress: Figure 222 of 266
This weekend I finished painting up the Seoni, Iconic Sorceress, figure from the Iconics and Officially Licensed Pathfinder Miniatures Set. Only one more figures to go from this set!
I can't say I'm a fan of this figure, as it appears to me that the character looks like she is running for her life. I think I'd prefer something a little braver looking if I was selecting a character for an RPG, or such. I guess it could make a funny diorama if you showed her with a massive troll chasing after her. I think it's something about the way the head is tilted slightly to the side, like she is attempting to glance back behind her to see just how close big stompy death is.
I forgot to take a starting picture, so here's the catalog picture from the Reaper site.
I began by painting all her skin with Crafter's Acrylic "Flesh". I then painted her clothing with Reaper MSP Bones "Tropical Blue", and her hair with Apple Barrel "Apple Maple Syrup". Next, I painted all the parts I planned to eventually paint gold with Accent "Golden Harvest".
I then painted the little pouches hanging from her outfit, and her shoes, with Americana "Terra Cotta". Next, I went over all the parts I had painted earlier with the "Golden Harvest, this time using Ceramcoat "Bronze". After everything had a bit to dry, I gave the figure a wash with GW "Agrax Earthshade" wash, using a wet brush.
When the wash was dry, I painted the eyes, and the lips, and then highlighted all the skin with the base "Flesh". I then added a little White to the "Flesh", and did some lighter highlights. Next i worked on the hair, highlighting it first with Americana "Moon Yellow", and the Apple Barrel "Lemon Chiffon". I then went back and added a few White highlights to the hair.
Next, I repainted her blue outfit with Folk Art "Metallic Blue Sapphire", and then went back and added highlights with Folk Art Pearl "Aqua Moire". I then painted her staff and her dagger's scabbard with Crafter's Acrylic "Navy Blue".
I painted the two ribbons hanging from her right side, with Crafter's Acrylic "Storm Cloud Grey", and then I did highlights on them with Folk Art "Platinum Grey". I finished them by adding White highlights. While I had the White out, I used it to paint the twine on the staff. I also painted the little object hanging from the staff with Apple Barrel "Yellow". I then highlighted the little pouches hanging from her sides with Accent "Golden Oxide". I returned to work on the staff and gave the areas of twine I had painted White a wash with some GW Badab Black" wash using a wet brush". While that dried, I worked on highlighting all the parts I had painted earlier wth the "Bronze", using Ceramcoat "14K Gold". I then went back to the staff and highlighted the little object I had painted "Yellow", using Crafter's Acrylic "Daffodil Yellow", and then a pinpoint of White. And, while I had the White open, I used it to highlight the twine that I had washed with the "Badab Black" wash earlier. Next, I highlighted the staff with Ceramcoat "Denim Blue". Lastly, I painted the figure's integral base with Ceramcoat "Walnut", and also used this color to also paint the dagger grip.
After the figure had overnight to dry, I gave it a coat of Ceramcoat "Matte Varnish". When the varnish was dry, I flocked the base, and that evening I sprayed the figure with Testor's Dullcote.
Well, there she is. This figure was very hard to photograph, as there was no natural front to it; while her body faces one way, her head faces another... and her arms are shooting off in two different directions. Also, I ended up making a hash of her face; she looks like she has undergone too much plastic surgery. I just didn't care enough to spend a lot of time trying to fix it. And, stacked against her is that she was jut a mess of mold lines; and in really crappy places to try and fix, like her fingers and braids. On the positive side, she is finished. And I can put her behind me and turn my attention to other things.
