What is impeachment?

It's the official, constitutional method for screaming at the sky because Trump is president.

Why is Trump being impeached?

Trump has committed some very serious offenses, from not being a Democrat to being a Republican. He also won the 2016 election, which rises to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. He also restored the celebration of Christmas after eight years of winter with no Christmas under Obama. This drove Dems up a wall so they drummed up some charges against him.

Why didn't Democrats include any criminal offenses in the articles of impeachment?

There were just so many of them, it was hard to pick one. So, instead of laying out actually impeachable offenses, the Democrats summarized it all with two main articles of impeachment: 1.) Trump is president. 2.) TRUMP IS PRESIDENT.

What does it take to remove the president from office?

Faith, trust, and pixie dust.

Will Trump be removed from office?

Lol.

If we believe in ourselves and try hard, and Trump is removed, Hillary Clinton becomes president, right?

I am sick of impeachment, and hearings have not even begun!

Victor Davis Hanson writes in National Review,

Here are at least ten reasons why the Democratic impeachment “inquiry” is a euphemism for an ongoing coup attempt.

1) Impeachment 24/7. The impeachment “inquiry,” supposedly prompted by the president’s Ukrainian call, is simply the most recent in a long series of “coups” that sought to overturn the 2016 election and thus preclude a 2020 reelection bid. The pattern gives away the game.

2) Whistleblowers Who Are Not Whistleblowers.

3) First-term impeachment.
Trump is up for election in less than a year. Impeachment then seems a partisan exercise in either circumventing a referendum election or in damaging a president seeking reelection.

4) No Special Counsel Finding. In the past, special counsels have found felonious presidential behavior, such as cited in Leon Jaworski’s and Ken Starr’s investigations.

In contrast, special counsel Robert Mueller spent 22 months and $35 million, and yet his largely partisan law and investigative team found no collusion and no actionable presidential obstruction of that non-crime. We are not just proceeding with impeachment without a special counsel’s finding of wrongdoing, but after a special counsel’s finding of no actionable wrongdoing.

5) No Bipartisanship. There was broad bipartisan support for the Nixon impeachment inquiry and even some for the Clinton impeachment. There is none at all for the Schiff impeachment effort, given its overtly partisan nature.

6) Impeachment without High Crimes or Misdemeanors. There is no proof of any actual Trump crime.

7) Thought Crimes? if there was any quid pro quo, it was more likely a matter of Biden rather than Trump pressuring the Ukrainians, given the actual quite different results: Again, the Trump administration armed the Ukrainians; Obama and his administration did not. Thought crimes are still not impeachable offenses.

8) Different Standards of Justice. Should Barack Obama have been investigated for getting caught on a hot mic offering to be flexible after his reelection on missile defense if Vladimir Putin would give him some space? In fact, Russia did not embarrass Obama during the subsequent 2012 successful Obama reelection effort, and Obama did shelve joint Eastern European missile-defense plans.

9) The Schiff Factor. Representative Adam Schiff is now de facto chief impeachment prosecutor. He has repeatedly lied about the certainty of impending Mueller indictments or bombshells. He flat-out lied that he and his staff had no prior contact with the whistleblower. He made up a version of the Trump call that did not represent the actual transcript, and when called out, he begged off by claiming he was offering a “parody.” He has an unsavory reputation as a chronic selective leaker of classified information in the House Intelligence Committee. For weeks he has not allowed Republican members of his House Intelligence Committee to have the same freedom to call and cross-examine witnesses as was extended to the then-minority Democrats during the committee’s 2016–07 investigation of FISA, unmasking, and surveillance abuses.

Tradition and protocol argue that the proper place for impeachment inquiries and investigations is the House Judiciary Committee. Schiff successfully hijacked that committee’s historic role for two reasons: 1) His reputation as a brawling hyperpartisan meant that he would turn the investigation into a proverbial witch hunt and wet the lunatic beak of the progressive base; and 2) he has the ability so far as intelligence chair selectively to block rapid dissemination of transcripts of cross-examinations of witnesses and to use secrecy to massage the conduct of the committee and to selectively release information to the media.

10) Precedent. The indiscriminate efforts to remove Trump over the past three years, when coupled with the latest impeachment gambit, have now set a precedent in which the out party can use impeachment as a tool to embarrass, threaten, leverage, or seek to remove a sitting president for political purposes to reverse an election.

At best, we have turned a uniquely constitutional republic into a European parliamentary system in which heads of states can be removed from power without national elections. At worst, we are now a rank banana republic in which coups are an accepted model of political opposition.

Sham-Peachment

In his Morning Report, JJ Sefton writes today,

With that, we segue directly into our top story, which is of course the Democrats' Sham-Peachment, meant as both a continuation of the original attempt to overthrow the 2016 election and as a cover-up for its architects and conspirators. The bizarre farce kicks off on Wednesday and the GOP has already named eight potential witnesses including Hunter Bidet, who is up to his meth-addled eyeballs in graft and corruption from a slew of countries, most importantly Ukraine, courtesy of his crooked influence-peddling father. Ukraine was indeed where Schiff-for-Brains' pinned his hopes on finally nailing Trump, but with the release of the phone conversation transcript between Trump and Zelensky, that plan not only got shot to pieces, it opened the way for Trump and his allies in the House to expose the coup via exposing and probing Fusion-GPS and Crowd Strike. For those wholly unaware because they get their "news" from the globalist agitprop media wing of the Democrats, the former is an oppo-research firm that created the so-called Steele Dossier at the behest of Hillary Clinton and used by the corrupt DoJ and FBI to get FISA warrants to spy on candidate Trump, and the latter was the cyber security firm that Debbie Wasserman-Test gave the allegedly hacked DNC servers to for examination. It should be noted that Crowd Strike is owned wholly or in part by Ukrainian nationals who have a bitter hatred of both Trump and Putin, while Fusion-GPS obtained its "information" for the dossier from Ukrainians with ties to members of both American and foreign intelligence agencies, at the behest or with the knowledge and approval of their highest ranking leadership. That would be Comey, Brennan and Clapper, for those playing along at home.

It bears repeating that all of what we're seeing is a result of Schiff-for-Brains' 1,000% certainty that Trump would never release the transcript of the phone call between him and Ukie prexy Zelensky, which would enable him to resurrect the Watergate meme of "cover-up" and ride the anticipated cratering of Trump's approval rating all the way to impeachment in the House, conviction in the Senate and removal from office. How did that work out for him?

So far, every witness in the hearings leading up to this week's Soviet show trial either confirmed that there was not a single bit of impropriety in that phone conversation, never even heard the actual conversation and were giving second- or even third-hand accounts of what they were told was said, or had their testimony shredded under cross-examination. Much of it was not even "evidence" of Trump's alleged malfeasance or incompetence but merely their own personal objection to his foreign policy. Umm, here's a little reminder; you jag-offs don't make policy. You carry it out faithfully from the man who does, and that happens to be the President of the United States of America. Donald J. Trump. You object? Fine. Resign your fucking commission and go public if that's what passes for a conscience in your sick minds demands. No, they won't do that, and that's really what this entire thing is about; the fact that the globalists embedded in every department at every agency and at every level of this government cannot accept that Trump and all of us who voted for him have rejected them, everything they stand for and their grand design to take this country down. They've been exposed and are reacting.

To the sham-peachment we go where despite the revelations that sooper-sekrit whistleblower Eric Ciaramella's attorney crowed about the plot to take out President Trump within hours after his inauguration and that the latest star witness, Ambassador William Taylor just shot a hole the size of an 18-wheeler into the Dem-Media Complex's narrative (his source for the charges against Trump is, get this, The New York Times!) on top of all the other exploded and debunked myths and lies about this President, the House is reportedly set to draft three articles of impeachment. I understand they are going to hit him with the Popeye Doyle "picking your feet in Poughkeepsie" clause that is sure to send him out of the Oval Office in handcuffs.

Despite the fact that this is being handled in the intelligence committee with Adam Schiff-for-Brains presiding, Matt Gaetz is pushing for Jim Jordan and Lee Zeldin to jump over to that committee to handle the questioning of witnesses. Excellent idea. From what I understand the reason it's in the intel committee in the first place is so that they can shield their patently obvious lack of a case and any potential Mueller-esque embarrassments under the cloak of "national security." Pfft. As our last link plainly states, and echoes my sentiments, all of this now goes way beyond Trump and 2016; it is naked ambition and a lust for absolute power. Whatever happens in 2020, the Left is now in it for all the marbles.

Impeachment lies not going well

Mollie Hemingway writes in the Federalist,

The impeachment inquiry, such as it is, has tremendous struggles. It’s been conducted in secret, with heavy control from Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the man who falsely claimed for years he had evidence of Trump’s treasonous collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election. The inquiry is being handled by him because the more appropriate committee chair, Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., made a mess of the previous impeachment efforts by mismanaging his hearings with Robert Mueller, John Dean, and Corey Lewandowski. In fact, the Mueller hearing was such a disaster for impeachment efforts that it more or less killed a multi-year effort put in place by Resistance bureaucrats and their supporters.

Schiff has told witnesses not to answer questions when those questions would help Trump, and has badgered witnesses who were deemed insufficiently supportive of his efforts to undo the 2016 election. He and the whistleblower both lied about their coordination prior to the complaint being filed. And while he originally demanded the whistleblower’s testimony, after that coordination was revealed, he has attempted to prevent the testimony during which difficult questions would be asked.

Worse, the witnesses thus far can not point to a single crime, much less a high crime, for which to impeach the president. Instead, the witnesses either broadly support the president’s handling of foreign policy or are livid with rage over his disagreement with their foreign policy views.

While the losing faction in 2016 has great trouble with Trump’s less interventionist foreign policy, it is not actually grounds for impeachment. Even if one were to take issue with that foreign policy, nobody has been able to point to a single crime that took place in any interaction with Ukraine, much less one committed by the president, which is a serious barrier for an impeachment inquiry.

...But “impeachment” means many things. Until 15 minutes ago, I’d wager, many people believed it was a synonym for “remove from office.” But with the House shouting “impeach him, impeach him, impeach him” in tones more or less like those that emanated from that angry mob which sided with Barabbas in front of Pontius Pilate, lo, these many years ago, we have all been reminded that while the House may bring articles of impeachment, it takes two-thirds of the Senate to convict the accused and remove him from office.

Two-thirds. I was told there would be no math, but I am pretty sure that means 67 senators, when 53 of them are now Republicans. According to my abacus, that means that 20 Republican senators would have to jump ship and vote with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to remove the president from office. How likely is that?

...I am not sure that there is no radioactive skeleton in Donald Trump’s closet. Maybe the Democrats will discover something heinous, something sufficiently potent to bring him down.

I am not sure, but I doubt it, partly because I think that Donald Trump’s erratic behavior is mostly epiphenomenal—a matter of words and gestures, not substance—partly because we’ve seen this show so many times before: the pussy tapes, Stormy Daniels, Michael Cohen, “Russian collusion,” Robert Mueller’s two-year fishing expedition, and now a telephone call to Ukrainian President Zelensky. Since I’ve already introduced sums, l’ll follow by observing that all those supposed torts do not add up to squat—or, rather, squat, i.e., zero, nada, rien, zilch is precisely what they do add up to: zero + zero + zero + zero = zero. And it doesn’t matter how many zeros you add on to the problem. The answer will still be zero.

Impeachment? JJ Sefton writes in his Morning Report,

...All this is is the latest - and certainly not the last - attempt by the Democrat-Media Complex to taint the President so as to fatally damage him in the eyes of the voters 12 months from now. It's also a desperate attempt to paint the real investigation into the real crimes of the Obama/Clinton-led attempted and ongoing coup against this President and we the people (the people and the document that that is the preamble to) as illegitimate and politically motivated retribution. Heh. Tick tock, but more on that in a bit.

The big question mark is the GOP-e, since that is also the audience to whom this is being targeted. The solidarity in the House was crucial in getting the minds right of the questionable few in the Senate should an actual impeachment ever occur and move to a trial phase. And considering his horrid poll numbers in one of his several home states, I should think that as much as he's itching to stab Trump in the face, Pee-Air Defecto is probably not going to do it or support it. At least if he were smart he wouldn't. And as he goes, so goes the Alaskan Snow-Queen, the Maine Merkin and all the other deadbeats putatively on our side of the aisle in the upper chamber.

In any case, as this rogue Colonel Vindman is exposed for his shady ties to Ukraine (more than merely his place of birth), and as the identity of this whistleblower has all but been confirmed as a Deep State spy and flunky for coup plotter John Brennan, this latest surefire plan in the Acme Overthrow Presidents Kit is fizzling out and blowing up in the Dems' collective face. I had no idea but Vindman also has a twin brother who is also a lieutenant colonel who worked in the White House and he is supposedly going to be called to testify. This is devolving into Frasier or the Jeremy Irons film Dead Ringers. Also, the attorney for the yet-to-be-officially-identified Eric Ciaramella is now saying his client will agree to answer questions from the GOP members on the House committee, but only in with written responses. Yeah, no.

As I said, collapsing like a wet blini, but at least the base is appeased. No matter that what the Democrat-Left has done is to completely shred whatever last vestige of comity and the rule of law that might have existed. Meh, considering what is being taught in the schools for at least the past 40 years, it's kind of a miracle we've held it together as a society this long. Add to that the fact that we have one political party that is a de facto internal enemy of the people, a propagandistic media in league with them, a federal bureaucracy and judiciary acting as its rubber stamp, and a seemingly compromised flag officer corps whose top echelons now openly espouse removing a president they disapprove of by force of arms, and we have ourselves a situation. In spite of all that has happened and for sure all that is to come, I think Trump will win in 2020. But, we as a nation and society are in uncharted waters. Things cannot go on as before. Interesting times, for sure.

The purpose of the requests is to gather testimony from all those who disagree with President Trump’s foreign policy.

The arc of the current impeachment plan is to remove President Trump from office because he is not permitting the Bush, Clinton-Clinton, Bush-Bush, Obama-Obama foreign policy to continue. Republicans and many independents are stubbornly resisting the impeachment inquiry, as though you have to have some kind of reason to impeach the president. Democrats oppose this logic, saying that impeaching a president who insists on being Trump is a constitutional duty. Many Americans are just kind of confused by the whole thing and are waiting for something more interesting to come on TV.

"Impeachment is polling pretty strong just goin' on emotion and stuff," said one pollster, "but man, if we could point to some kind of impeachable offense, the numbers would go way, way up. We're talking very strong support once there is a crime to impeach for."

A genuine constitutional crisis

David Catron writes in Spectator,

...our government now faces a genuine crisis whose magnitude the nation hasn’t seen for more than 150 years. Americans have long celebrated the orderly transfer of power that is unique to our form of government. The Democrats, however, have abandoned that tradition by refusing to accept the outcome of the 2016 election.

Having pursued a policy of transparency and shown extraordinary forbearance with the antics of House Democrats only to be declared “illegitimate” for his trouble, President Trump has had enough. Tuesday, Counsel to the President Pat Cipollone put House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on notice that Trump would no longer allow their machinations to distract him from his normal duties. Pointing out that the ersatz impeachment inquiry concocted by Pelosi and her accomplices was constitutionally invalid, in brazen violation of basic due process, and contrary to the separation of powers doctrine, Cipollone wrote that the president would ignore it henceforth:

Never mind that President Trump has been investigated relentlessly by the Democrats and their surrogates since he was elected, and no credible evidence has been found that he has abused his office. Yet Madam Speaker gratuitously insists that he has committed all manner of offenses, and she has arbitrarily launched an “impeachment inquiry” without authorization by the full House — the first time this has been done in the history of the republic. The House has initiated impeachment inquiries against three presidents: Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton. All were authorized by a vote of the full House.

...In addition to their refusal to hold the House vote that would legitimately authorize an impeachment inquiry, the Democrats have denied the president basic due process rights such as the ability to confront the witnesses testifying against him, the right to call his own witnesses, and to have the assistance of counsel. They are also deposing witnesses in secret. In essence, they are denying the president fundamental rights guaranteed all Americans by the Constitution.

Turkey, the Kurds, ISIS, impeachment, and much more from Scott Adams

Scott talks about a lot today. I was most interested in what he would say about Trump's desire to pull out of Syria. The concern is that Turkey will go kill all the Kurds in the "safe zone." Scott doesn't believe it. He notes that U.S. troops will be embedded with the Turkish troops. Turkey knows that we will move decisively against them if they attack the Kurds. Trump is really good at making tough decisions. We can't stay there forever. The other thing that can't go on is leaving!

Part of the agreement is that we will turn over a large number of ISIS prisoners to Turkey. Scott believes Turkey will eventually kill them all. These ISIS people wanted to torture, kill, rape and enslave the people of Turkey. Killing them would not be genocide.

The media says the Pentagon was blindsided. It is up to the civilian president to make the decision. We do not have a government that can be trusted! Scott said Trump had two terrible decisions and he made one.

Impeachment? The Democrats have painted themselves in a corner. Byron York reports in the Washington Examiner that the impeachment hearings will be private! If you are backing the team that wants to impeach the president based on secret testimony, you're not on the right team!

Michael Moore is urging Michelle Obama to get in the race! He says Warren can't win. Scott still thinks that would leave Harris as the candidate. After the lousy way she has campaigned, Scott still believes her problems are fixable and she could end up winning the Democrat nomination. Like the Republicans were, the Democratic party is split. Trump pulled the party mostly together by not starting wars, appointing constitutional judges, cutting taxes, etc.

Why is it that the House is controlled by Democrats, yet its leadership is not pushing through any of the policy proposals voiced so openly on the Democratic primary stage?

Why aren’t progressive representatives introducing bills to pay reparations to African Americans, to legalize infanticide in some cases of late-term abortion, to offer free medical care to illegal aliens, to confiscate AR-15s, to extend Medicare for all, to impose a wealth tax and raise top rates to between 70 and 90 percent, to abolish student debt and ensure free college for all, or to grant blanket amnesty to those currently living in the country illegally?

Simple answer: none of those issues poll anywhere near 50 percent approval. And no Democratic candidate would expect to beat Trump as the emissary of such an agenda.

If the economy was in a recession, if we were embroiled in another Iraq-like or Vietnam-sort of war, and if Trump’s polls were below 40 percent, then the Democrats would just wait 13 months and defeat him at the polls.

But without a viable agenda and because they doubt they can stop Trump’s reelection bid, they feel they have no recourse but to impeach. If Trump were to be reelected, not a shred of Barack Obama’s “fundamental transformation” would be left, and the strict constructionist Supreme Court would haunt progressives for a quarter-century.

...Impeachment, remember, will make the Kavanaugh hearings look like a seminar on etiquette, and so everything and anything can happen once dozens of unhinged leftists are unbound.

...We are starting to see the outlines of a progressive fantasy on the horizon: Biden will be sacrificed. The party will unite around Warren. The left-wing media narrative will be, “We took out one of our own, now it is your turn to depose Trump.” Chaos overload for two or three weeks might keep Trump’s polling low.

Short-term, Trump may lose traction due to the media frenzy. He lost some of his ongoing momentum that had recently seen his polls steadily creeping up. He gave a fine speech at the United Nations and sounded presidential in his talks with foreign leaders—all overshadowed or now forgotten due to the impeachment psychodrama.

Trump’s critics have become emboldened, Left and Right. The Drudge Report has flip-flopped and is as anti-Trump as Vox or Slate. Many at National Review call for or anticipate impeachment without much regret. Likewise, some at Fox News—Shepard Smith, Andrew Napolitano, and Chris Wallace—are nonstop critics of Trump and hardly disguise their contempt.

Long-term, however, Trump wins.

We still have a number of government audits coming from Michael Horowitz, John Durham, and John Huber—and the targets are not Trump. The Senate will not convict the president under any foreseeable circumstances. The full story of the whistleblower has not been told, but there are a lot of narratives to come about the sudden rules allowing hearsay, DNC involvement, and who knew far in advance about the complainant’s writ. Once the Democratic debates continue, the candidates’ screaming and hysterics return, and the impeachment hearings descend into a Kavanaugh-esque farce, the public will begin to get scared again by the Left’s shrieking Jacobins. Schiff’s “parody” is a small foretaste of what’s to come. Voters soon will surmise that the only thing between their 401k plans and socialism is Donald J. Trump.

...Warren or her possible facsimile is a weaker candidate than even the enfeebled Biden. Her lack of viability will be of enormous advantage in NeverHillary-fashion to Trump. His fundraising, already ascendant, will hit the stratosphere. The idea that the new and old NeverTrumpers will be on the side of socialism will finally discredit them. Wall Street and Silicon Valley will keep trashing Trump, but privately write checks to stop Warren’s wealth tax that would be only the beginning of her Venezuelization of America.
