Happy Mom's Day

I hope all you Mom's out there will have a very wonderful day today.  I spent last night making Mother's day cards.  I know it's the last minute but I actually forgot about it.  Can you believe that?? LOL
Anyway I made one card and thought I'd make a couple more slightly different.
My son is making his Nana her favorite cookies so I decorated this little gable box to put them in.

Guess what was in my mail today? Paper Crafts "Card Creations"! I forgot about this issue until I flipped through the pages and found my card. LOL. What a great issue, there's a card for everything in it. And it's sectioned off for easy referrance.

Key to My Heart Clear card

Playing with these clear cards from ShortCuts sure are fun! What I like most is that I can do things with these clear cards that I just can not achieve with a cardstock card. Layering on 2 levels that give you the kind of depth that cardstock card can not achieve. My favorite is nesting messages behind the card front that give the reciever a little surprise. And "suspending" images in the "air". Like the card below.

It's Love!

I’m in love…yep with these clear cards from ShortCuts! I love the 3D look you get with these cards. You can create a multi layer look without the bulk! I stamped the scroll in the corner in white, stamped LOVE in black matted once and added a ribbon; the inside has a heart stamp and verse. So the card is decorated in both the front and inside, but from the outside it looks like it’s all on the front of the card. Pretty neat eh?

"Clearly" it's just another Halloween card

I love the old painted look of the background paper and instantly thought I had to use it in a Halloween card. In case you haven't noticed I'm loving the clear matt with a touch of colour along the edges. Clear cards and Clear sheets (from ShortCuts) are really fun to play with there are just so many ideas running through my mind to do with them, my only hope is to get them out before I forget..LOL
Oh and don't forget to enter the contest to win some ShortCuts products of your own.

Seize the Cupcake

Bisous has a paper line that are pre-designed quick pages called PDQ pages (Pretty Darn Quick….I think that is what they are called), all you have to do is add photos and journaling. I took one of these pages and cut it up to make cards. There are so many beautiful patterns on one page I couldn’t just make a page with it, I had to spread it out and make a couple of cards. Here is a card I just finished.

I wanted to add another matt around the Piggies because the white just wasn’t standing out enough but I didn’t want the “weight” of another colour. My solution? I inked the edges of a clear sheet from Short Cuts. Now I have an “invisible” layer with a touch of colour. You probably can’t see it but I also hand stitched little pearls on the lace.

A Valentine for the Kiddos

I thought it would be cute to make a Valentine for a child, something fun and bright that speaks to them. So what I made was a gift card holder except it holds “coupons” instead of a gift card. The coupons are for 1 treat, 2 hugs and kisses and 1 day of not making your bed!! What do you think? Do you think a little boy or girl would like this. What other "coupons" could I include for this project?

Birthday Card SC200 challenge

Let me tell you about a new paper kit from CTMH called “Key to my Heart”. Wow what a beautiful collection of patterns and colours. At first I couldn’t bring myself to cut them because they were so pretty!! Did this ever happen to you?
Well I finally got the nerve to slice into the papers and well everything became a blur of inspiration and before I knew it I had completed 5 projects. You’ll see most of them next month. But here is one card I can share now.

It's Official!

Today is the first day of my 6-month term as a ShortCuts DT member. I’m really excited to be able to share my projects using ShortCuts clear and frosted cards. This months theme is Love/Valentine’s Day. I hope you find my projects inspiring.

This is one of my favorite cards for a number of reasons:
1. I can't believe how straight I managed to stitch around the card!!
2. I love how the frosted sheets look like bubbles and they don't mask the image when I overlap them.
3. I love how neat and tidy the clear cards look.
4. I love this stamp set, it's so fun to colour!

Wagon load of Love

This morning I decided to blow the dust off an old stamp of mine and actually use it for the first time. I got the idea from a SU set “Loads of Fun”, since I do not have that set I thought the wagon and the many other stamps I do own would do the trick. I’m thinking I may actually get some half decent use out of this stamp after all.

A Christmas Card for the School Bus Driver

My son has had the same bus driver (to school) for the last 8 years. It was just this year that he told me he thinks he has the best shool bus driver ever. So I thought he might like a christmas card with my son's compliment written inside for christmas. So I got my pencil out and drew a cartoon school bus, then I thought (before I glue everything down) that maybe someone else might like to make the bus, so I made a template. And here you go, I added the pic of the bus because when I decide to use a paper piecing template I always forget how it's supposed to look. This way it makes putting it together and deciding on colours much easier!

This template is for the bus only...driver not included!

Short Cuts DT call-Frosted card

Another card made with Short Cuts Frosted Card Blanks. Wow these card blanks are awesome! They are so fun to play with and easy to use. Don't forget to stop by Short Cuts blog and leave a comment on your favorites. There are 10 hopeful DT's with lots of sweet items for you to see.

So I found this bird pattern at Scrapbooks Etc (under the title of "Nature Paper-Piecing) along with a couple more. I love this bird!! I hoped I would put the right colours together to make it pretty and I think I managed to do just that. Add a little glitter and a frosted card for a soft look and here you go! Putting the bird on a frosted card really hightlighted the details and added dimension.

ShortCuts Design Team call-Clear Cards

I finished all my projects for the ShortCuts Design Team call, they are listed below and I just couldn't not do something with the extra clear card. I LOVE these clear cards, they have so many possibilites and you can create so much depth with your cards, it's a whole new dimension of cardmaking...I wish I had more to play with!!

I used a picture of our house, opened the pic in Photoshop and changed it to B&W leaving only the house in colour. I thought it would be a perfect idea for a christmas card that read "There's no place like home for the holidays". If you look real close you can see my poor JEEP just buried in all the new fallen snow. Good thing it's 4-wheel drive or I'd never get out of my driveway...LOL. The big white spots on the photo are snowflakes, the flash went off and that's what happens when light bounces of them.

Hurricane Lamp

Here’s my “twist” on the Treat Box, I thought it would make a cute version of a “hurricane lamp”. The full sheet of acetate from Short Cuts is perfect for making these boxes, not only is it perfectly clear but it’s thick, (thicker than any other type I’ve used) which makes it perfect for projects like this. The box is itself is really strong and can hold stuff really good. I scored all my fold lines and it just stays in place, add a little glue and there you go. I find Tombo adhesive runner works best.
The measurements are: Cut one piece of acetate 6x11”, score along the 11” side at 2”,5”,7”and 10”. Fold the score lines and glue where they over lap.
For the base and top covers cut two 5x6” pieces of pattern paper. Score along the 5” side at 1 ½” and 3 ½” and along the 6” side at 1 ½” and 4 ½”.
Assemble the top and bottom and slip over the clear box body. Glue with Tombo adhesive or Sticky strips. Decorate as desired.
The background was made by using my Watercolour and baby wipes technique, see video tutorial for this technique right here in my blog. Stamp images can cut around leaving a 2’ bottom, score ½” from the bottom, fold and glue to base of the box bottom. Glue the rider to the front of the box and the large tree to the back.
Punch 4 snowflakes, sandwich tread between two snowflakes and tread through the top of the box, decide how low you want the snowflake to hang and tie a knot at the top.
This example has a Flameless tea light in it, the pic on the right shows how it glows. I can never seem to get a pic that shows this effect as pretty as it is in real life.
Repeat.

on the OUTSIDE looking IN

Poor little snowman, always on the outside, wishing he were inside!! These clear card blanks from Short Cuts are awesome!! I can soooo much potential with them. And I’ll share my ideas as they come to me..LOL. Anyway I thought the clear card would be perfect for this idea. Its amazing how you can get a cool dimensional look just by layering images using clear cards.

Gift Card Holders

A cup of Friendship

So here’s an example of my new favourite card type…it’s a Gift Card Holder!! Isn’t it cool!! It folds up like an accordion to form a card that has a little pocket inside. It will hold a gift card perfectly, but I think it can hold other things, so my mission now is to list all the different ways this cardholder can be used.
If you have any suggestions let post it in the comments, I’d love to hear your ideas. I have a few ideas for these and will post pics as soon as they are done. Stay tuned!!

I used a tree box template from SCS to make the Angel's body. You can even put candy inside her. What a cute gift for someone!! Hummmm...

The rest of her I made up, the wings are the snowflake stamp, I used MS glue pad to put adhesive on the stamp to make a sticky image and put glitter over top, you can't see it but it's there. The lace trim was punched from a border punch in 3 pieces then glued and trimmed. I have a tiny mitten punch that I love using to make hands and I did bead and tie the snowflakes together. I'm thinking now I should have taken step by step photos of the process.

Here is a fabulous site for step by step instructions on how to make the triangle box
