We've been lucky to have family join US for Thanksgiving, but I think it's been 12 years since we've joined THEM!  And what a Thanksgiving it was!  Big thanks to the Cole fam for their graciousness.  We love you all and have lots of blessings to count...

Austin is 5!!!

Skateboard from Gpa Ed & Gma Cindy, giant Christmas stocking from Uncle Chris!
birthday eve - filling fruit snack & cornucopia treats for his preschool class

YAY!!! It's my birthday!
Austin was great to share his candy and cookies with the sibs
(and Cole knows just how to snitch more without anyone noticing)

lego set from Gpa Tom & Gma Liz!  Joy!

For his birthday party, Austin wanted to "play on an indoor play place."  He suggested McDonalds, but when I looked online and found a "pirate playground" at Classic Fun Center in Layton, he was THRILLED!  We were so happy to have Grandma Liz and Uncle Ben join us.  And the Pieroni's were visiting from SA!
The kids played for over an hour in Pirates Cove and then another 1+ hour in the bounce house paradise.  It was fabulous!  They even drug Cole up the bounce house stairs.  I admit, when we saw the place, I was a little nervous.  But it was great because the kids were totally entertained and the adults got to eat cardboard pizza and visit.  :)  George and I were talking when we got home that the Pieroni's are those kind of friends that we can just pick right back up talking with (even though it's been a few years).  Jordan, their oldest, was really nice to Elise, who talked his ear off and followed him all around.  She asked if they can come back for her birthday.  What do you say, Pieroni's?

Best of all, Austin had a ball!  There are many things I love about this child, but a big one is that he is a happy child.  It's not hard to make him SMILE and SHAKE with joy!  He loves life!  Here are a few more favorites...

1. What is your favorite color? yellow!  (no question)
2. What is your favorite toy? helicopter that you pull the gray thing and the helicopter part spins off
3. What is your favorite tv show/movie? Cars and Mater's Tall Tales
4. What do you like to do with your family? read books
5. What is your favorite outfit? conductor overols (overalls) (We got these as hand-me-downs a week before his birthday and he hasn't taken them off!)
6. What is your favorite game? magna tiles
7. What is your favorite snack or fruit? Cliff bars
8. What is your favorite animal? shark
9. What is your favorite song? Jingle Bells
10. What is your favorite book? There is always Room for a Little One and Nightmare Before Christmas (he also likes Kids Ask Why, and ALWAYS picks a Magic School Bus book from the library)
11. Who is your best friend? Kimo
12. What makes you happy? playing with Lucy
13. What makes you sad? when someone does something mean to me, like hitting
14. What is your favorite thing to do outside? go sledding!
15. What is your favorite drink? fruit punch
16. What is your favorite holiday? Christmas
17. What do you like to take to bed with you at night? froggy
18. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? golden grahams
19. What do you want for dinner on your birthday? spaghetti
20. What do you want to be when you grow up? a train conductor so I can wear conductor overols (two weeks ago it was a hockey player)

We LOVE you, Austin!

(He loves to tell people he is "BIG 5!")

November's randoms

Usually Austin jumps out of bed and gets dressed before I even know he's awake.  It's a rare thing to find him at breakfast in PJ's.  This gray, snowy morning, I found him still snuggled under his covers.
Austin:  "I'm only getting out of bed when the sky is blue."

-------------
After cycles of running and doing flips over the ottoman,
Elise:  "Erik, you can do all these crazy things when you are big like me!"

-----------
Elise:  (in a taunting, angry voice) "Austin, you are not going to get any gum for your birthday!"
Austin:  (matter-of-factly) "Yeah, I know.  I didn't ask for any gum.  I'm not going to get gum until I'm older and know how to chew."
-----------
Other fun things...

Elise learned to change Erik's diaper.  She's thrilled about it and thinks she's almost ready for the stinky ones.  (Perfect timing since he's just starting solid foods :)

Look who surprised us by just showing up at church one day!!!
We were so excited to see the Mataele's (especially Cole) and are
looking forward to the day when we see them all!

lots of work on the Ariel puzzle
Geo's morning workout

George came home from work with underwear for Cole.  The child was thrilled!  He told us what was on each one (mostly sesame street fun) and squealed with delight.  So we decided to start potty training.  Both of us felt like he was ready to go and it wouldn't be too bad.  Well...

He was so ticked off when I wouldn't put his "bi-per" back on him.  Lots of tears.  So he just ate breakfast in the buff.  Finally, he agreed to put the unders on and we worked on it for a couple weeks with not a ton of progress.  With the big fat unpacking job, I just wasn't on top of it and potty training was more stress/mess than I need right now.  After the holidays, we'll start again.  Today I asked him if he was ready to try underwear again and he said, "No.  I like my bi-per", pulled on the velcro tabs and sucked his lower lip.  *sigh*  I think if I could find velcro underwear, he'd be fine with the idea.

Austin and Elise learned how to cock their own nerf guns!  Watch out world!

Whenever Geo lays down, there is a pile on pop soon after.

last day for the air mattresses ... yipee!!!
After 5 1/2 weeks of shipping... our stuff arrived!

2 big trucks, 11 wooden crates, 15000 lbs, big 'ol fatty cockroaches as stow-aways
before
after

That pretty much sums up our November free time.  What a lot of junk we have to unpack!  One nice thing (or maybe not) is that we have an unfinished basement so if there is a box I don't want to deal with, down to the basement it goes.  "Why do we even have this box?!?"  ha!  Thankfully, we've had help unpacking and babysitting from family and new friends.  Will we ever finish?  I'm hoping by Christmas.

lookin like Morp dates!

Birthday celebrations for me!

My birthday fell on a Saturday this year... yay!  I asked Geo for a pumpkin cake for my birthday and boy, did he deliver!  He got the TWO of the triple packs from Costco!  Ha!  I LOVED it!  This is my birthday eve... wish I'd have taken a break from unpacking to put some make-up on.  :)

The next morning, I woke up to lots of snow... and a USU sweatshirt with pockets and a hood!  (Jake later reminded me they are "hoodies".  I still think it's funny that I couldn't remember the name.)

Austin took advantage of my good mood and asked me if he could he could have carrots with sprinkles for breakfast.  Sure, kid!  Knock yourself out!

We went outside and sledded down the little hill in our backyard.  Lucky that Chris and Dad had unpacked the boogie boards!  Lucy was the instigator in this one.  She loves the snow!  And it looked so fun that all of us (except Erik of course) followed.  But not before I took a few pictures.

Cole was the most ticked off to go inside.  Even though his hands and feet and face were SO cold.  Plenty more chances for this activity, buddy.
afterwards, I made myself my favorite treat
while everyone else drank hot chocolate

Natalie and I are lucky enough to have birthdays one day apart!  So we all got together at Thanksgiving Point for dinner.  (and my folks tended - Thank you!)  Tom and Liz even brought us a cake!  Thanks for a great evening Tripp's!  My favorite conversation was the one about some new college mascot in Oregon... some clam thing or something.  Ya got me.  But there was some debate on how it was classified.  All of us got a good laugh out of the whole thing  :)

Afterwards, Geo and I went to the concert barn there at the point and watched the BYU Young Ambassadors.  They sang/danced a bunch of love songs.  Woot, woo!  Shocker that no one else wanted to join in on this activity :).

What a great birthday weekend (which was actually kicked off by a fun shopping trip/lunch with my mom the weekend before)!  I feel very blessed!
