February quotables

I figure I ought to get this posted since May starts tomorrow...

-----------------
Elise:  Mom, why did we get eggs with our milk this time?
Me:  Well, we were out of eggs and I forgot to buy them at the store, so I just ordered them with the milk.
Elise:  Oh yeah.  I mean eggs come from a farm too so that makes sense.
Austin:  What about this syrup right here?
Me:  Well, it looked good so I ordered it.
Elise:  And Austin, don't you know syrup comes from a farm animal too?!?
(I wish I would have been quick enough to ask her which one.  But I wasn't.  I just laughed.  But after they left for school, I laughed my head off.  She loves it when she tells Austin how the world works.)
--------------
At dinnertime
Geo:  Did you know that Valentine's day was the day of me and mom's first kiss?
(not sure what the responses were)
Elise:  So, where was it?
G:  On the door step of mom's college apartment.
E:  No, I mean ... like WHERE?
G:  ???
E:  You know... like the lips, the cheek, you know.
G:  It was on the lips.  But I guess if you count it like that, it was on the forehead.  The week before.  I went in for the kiss, but she ducked her head down.
Elise and Lucy:  WHAT?!?  REALLY???
E:  Hmmm... so you kissed her on the forehead first.  ....  Have you ever kissed her on her nose holes and made the air come out her mouth?
(I laughed and laughed.  And I still laugh.)
Me:  NO!  Ummm... where did you get that idea?
E:  Oh, dad has done it to me before.  So I was wondering if he's ever done it to you.
hahaha!!!

Erik (during dinner. shaking his head in his hands, mutters to himself ): I HATE spelling tests.

I made Lucy pose for me one Sunday after church...
that girl is growing up!
Clara's 1st trim
I had a great time reconnecting with my mission buddies.  It had been 15+ years that I had seen most of them.
A typical 2 cart day at Costco... with Erik stealing the binkie!
THAT is one mean bear!
(after library story time)
Clara thinks its lots of fun to brush hair

and to stick her fingers in anyone's mouth
(or if you are George... she goes for the nostrils. ha!)
SMILE Erik!
(this is Erik's favorite shirt lately)
a ride around the Newgate Mall
(this was a day Geo was tending.  He's fun)

We went to a U of U gymnastics meet.  It was great fun, but a little bit crazy because George had a bunch of patients at the end of work so we were rushing about.  But thanks to grandma Liz and grandpa Tom, the kids still got the light  up toy stuff and they loved it.  I didn't realize Clara would think it was so great.  Grandma and Grandpa let the kids sit in their good seats and on their laps.  Parking was pretty much insane and George finally dropped us off and parked.  But he told me he finally understood why I was fine to come to games after the start time.  He was totally fine only watching 2/3 of the meet. hahaha! (Actually I think the little boys would have done better with that much time too.)  But us girls thought it was great fun to watch those gymnasts flip all over.  Everyone loved the donuts afterwards though.  :)

this happens often so I thought I'd get a shot.
Sock matching day...whew!
we finished up while Cole was at school.
Check out our single socks left over... holy moly.  I swear the washer eats them.  Or something?  It's a mystery.

took advantage of some warm weather
to dust off our wheels

And to wash windows.  Its funny how a
little bit of sun gets us right outside.
This girl banged on the window from
inside while I washed, but its hard to
get annoyed with a face that cute!

speaking of darling faces...
Grandma Liz and Grandpa Tom came up and gave us a great FHE lesson on Family History

School Spirit Dress up Days

(the formatting on all these pics is all messed up on this and I can't fix it.  Whatever.)
The month of February was Dr. Seuss month at the school.  The kids read A TON.  Lucy was over 5000 minutes, Austin was over 3000, Elise was over 2000.  None of them were grade or school winners, but they sure read a lot of great books.
Family Read-a-thon.  I always sit by the fire.  Here I was reading Bethany Hamilton's story:  Soul Surfer

Each Wednesday was a dress-up day.  Austin hates dress up days.  He does the minimum amount possible so he can still say that he did it.  That kid does not like to stand out or be abnormal (even if everyone else is).  I let him do his own thing... except for one day.

The 1st graders are the only grade that celebrates 100 day by dressing up like old people.  There are always some great costumes.  I pleaded with Austin to dress up and he caved.  He wasn't thrilled about it.  Again, we didn't do anything too crazy... just baby powder in the hair and glasses and a little bit of grandpa clothes.

He did agree to crazy hair day... lots of gel.  No crazy hair day for Lucy... she was off to the symphony with the 5th graders.

This one was mis-match day and it was Elise's turn to say no to dressing up.  Lucy loved picking out her crazy clothes.  Austin:  "Mom, you always tell me that it doesn't look good to wear the same color on top and bottom, so that is what I am doing.  Gray and gray."  Whoa.. pretty crazy.  ;)

Support your team and Crazy Hat day.
This one was my favorite.  It was backwards/inside out.  Lucy's sweater looked pretty good.  Elise thought she was the funniest thing ever.  Austin found a shirt that looked exactly the same on the inside as the outside and wore that.  But he did pull his jean pockets out.  I asked them all to line up after school to get a pic and Cole thought it was so funny so he tore off his clothes and pulled them inside out so he could join in the fun.  hahaha!

The morning party to end all the fun...
Parents and Pastries - morning donuts

How time flies! (Clara's 1st year birthday party)

pic of the invite... coloring is a little off
We held Clara's birthday party on Sunday, Feb 28.  I was so happy with how things turned out!  I really wanted it to turn out super cute but not a ton of work.  (ha!)  So I borrowed some cute hot air balloons from my friend and we bought most of the food from Costa Vida the day before.  And I was really happy with everything!  The girls loved helping me put together the decor.  Fun, fun!

Really... how can it not be a success with this fun guest list...
love the grandmas!

I know this is mostly backs of heads, but I loved Ben's face in there!

 Cake time...

Lindsay on fire patrol...ha!
she wasn't as gung-ho to dive right in to this one
support crew :)
We let her pick away for a while...

We're sure thankful for our little Clara!  And big thanks to the family for helping us celebrate our little sweetheart!
