Scorched

Scorched , an apocalyptic sci fi rpg from Bloat Games.

"This game is based on the simple concept, "What if Luke never left Tatooine?"

It's definitely heavily Star Wars inspired with a side of Mad Max thrown in for good measure."

I picked this one up awhile back, haven't had a chance to use it in a game/campaign yet.  Was moving some books around in my game room and rediscovered it.  Good stuff.  I need to work this into my gaming rotation.

Gaming Reflections with some New & Old (but new to me) Sci Fi RPG Goodies!

Due to some truly sad stuff my gaming group is no more.  It just didn't feel right to continue after what happened.  I spent the holidays and surrounding weeks taking a break from gaming, and just reflecting on life and things.  My friend and I had been working up a joint 5E game, with his passing, I just don't even want to look at my notes about it. Maybe one day I will return to what we were working on.  I do however, find myself in the mood to game again, I decided I wanted to do something new and different.  With the gaming group dissolved, I have started a new quest to rebuild/create a new gaming group and to play something different from what I have done in the past. I've played and DM'd a ton of fantasy over the years and a lot of P.A. gaming, but my experiences with GMing Sci Fi has been limited ( a bit of Traveller in High School, does Rifts count as Sci Fi??) So I am looking at the Revised Edition of Stars Without Number. I posted a good bit about Stars Without Number (original version) several years ago. But other than one game at a con I never got a chance to GM a session. With some Christmas money I purchased the hardcover rules for SWN and the new Codex of the Black Sun, which gives you the option of tossing some magic into your Sci Fi.   I had wanted to give Starfinder a try, but goodness that is way to much crunch for my schedule these days.  The new books are sweet!  I'm digging into the core rules and then will delve into Codex of the Black Sun.
I also recently picked up Hard Nova II and Core Command Armory book for an unbelievably great price.  I will likely see if I can adapt some things from both HN II and CC Armory to use in my hopefully upcoming SWN Campaign.  Hard Nova II seems to be a rules lite system and Core Command has conversion rules to 3.0 OGL, so I should be able to work it out. SWN is fairly rules lite so it shouldn't be too hard to extrapolate some conversions.
I intend to start posting here again semi-regularly, I had migrated to G+ but that is soon to be no more, so back to the blog it is. I am on MeWe, but I like having stuff available on my blog for others to view, so blogging it is.

Space Riders

After seeing some reviews for this online, I couldn't resist ordering the TPB collecting the first 4 issues of this series.  In a word Space Riders is Crazy Good!  The artwork is...well I've seen it described as psychedelic with a serious nod to Jack Kirby and I think that sums up the art nicely.  This is a Gonzo, Psychedelic, Sci Fi, Wild and Crazy Space Comic!
Yes that is a Skullship! The Santa Muerte to be precise.

White Star Wednesday: The Omoc

Here's a conversion of one of my favorite races from Defiance done up for the White Star RPG, I changed the spelling of the name slightly but you know who they are.  Anyways, I hope you like them, I worked these up using the Hyperspace Messenger #3 Aliens supplement.

 Omoc
The Omoc  are purple-skinned, lean muscular  humanoid alien race, with stark white hair and long eyebrows, although most males are bald. They can open their jaws extra wide and a second set of teeth will emerge out of their mouths to aid in eating and combat.
The Omoc are a race in decline, in the past they preyed upon other races, raiding other worlds for slaves, servants and food.  However, their world was destroyed when their sun went nova.  Other races with a millennia's worth of grudges secretly sabotaged Omoc ark-ships designed to save their race from destruction.  Few of the Omoc survived this betrayal, now a fragment of what they once were, the Omoc are lost and scattered across the galaxy searching for a new world to call home but wanted by none, hated by many, and feared by all. Omoc have made remarkable advances with stun weaponry and advanced drone technology.
Weapon & Armor Restrictions: Omoc prefer to fight with their bare hands and fangs, although they are proficient with Stun-staff, Daggers and Mono-Daggers.  Omoc wear light armor and refuse to use shields.
Saving Throws: Omoc are a hardy race and have amazing saving throws.  They have a +2 to save vs. death and poison.
Senses: Omoc have a keen sense of smell, granting them a +1 on any checks related to smell. Can identify people and track by their scent alone.
Cut Resistance: Omoc take half damage from knives, swords, axes, and other modes of attack which specifically cut or slash.
Carnivore Jaws: Omoc can open their jaw extra wide and a second set of carnivorous fangs will emerge (1d6 damage)
Combat Monster: Extra attacks per round equal to level which may only be used against foes of 1 HD or fewer
Cause Fear or Hesitation: With a fearsome glare an Omoc can cause  victims in melee range be -2 To-Hit unless they pass a Saving Throw, 1/day.
Strong & Hardy: Omoc are a physically strong and hardy race; gain +1 to strength and constitution scores.
Arrogant: Omoc tend to view other alien races as playthings and food, this colors how they interact with other races; -1 to charisma scores.

Level   XP         HD    BHB    ST
1            0          1      +0       12
2          2,500     2      +1       11
3          5,000     3     +2        10
4        10,000     4     +2         9
5        20,000     5     +3         8
6        40,000     6     +4         7
7        80,000     7    +4          6
Special: If the heart of an Omoc Patriarch (7th Level)  is devoured by another Omoc, that Omoc may gain a bonus level beyond the normal racial level limits for their race.

Based upon the Omec race from the Defiance T.V. series.  No copyright infringement is intended.

White Star Week Continues : Need some more Aliens?

As I continue to read my copy of the White Star RPG, I'm getting all kinds of exciting campaign ideas. Graduate school and work have kind of killed my blogging and my gaming for that matter, but White Star has really gotten me excited about gaming again.  One thing I would like to see for the game is more aliens!  I've always been  a Mos Eisley Cantina Aliens kinda GM.  I recently acquired a great addition for White Star that you may want to check out!
For only a $1.00 you can get a great little pdf that has some very well done alien creation rules for your White Star Campaigns.  If you like White Star then you need to pick up Hyperspace Messenger #3 by DWD Studios!  It does follow the races as class concept that White Star goes with so if that isn't your think you may have some quibbles with this product, but I love it and have been happily working up new aliens for my upcoming game.  I'll post one of my favorites from Defiance Season #3 shortly.

White Star

Hey folks!
It's been awhile but I'm still around.  I've played a bit of Pathfinder and some 5E.  Mostly I've just been working and been going to school.  I do post a "bit" more over on Google+, blogging has just taken a distant backseat in my life.
I've been thinking about running some Sci Fi this summer, if I can work it into my schedule.
In particular I've had my eye on the White Star RPG.

This is a rules-lite (based upon S&W White Box) Sci Fi game that really looks like a ton of fun!
With all the new summer Sci Fi shows that just came out; Dark Matter, Killjoys, and the latest season of Defiance, along with the awesome trailer for the new Star Wars movie I really find myself in a Sci Fi mood.  So I think some space gaming is in order!
More to come!
Oh and Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!  : )
