 A pesar de que su nombre no es muy conocido entre los profanos del jazz, Fats Waller es considerado -por muchos- como el más completo de los pianistas de jazz. Esto, por encima de Duke Ellington, de Jelly Roll Morton, e incluso Erroll Garner. Queda claro de qué tipo de artista estamos hablando. En 1934 el pianista firma contrato para la RCA Víctor. De 1934 a 1942, y con el nombre de Fats Waller and his Rhythm, se publicaron 300 piezas de esta pequeña orquesta cuya popularidad subió como la espuma, y cuyos registros se convirtieron en uno de los más grandes tesoros de la historia del jazz. A los treinta y nueve años dejó este mundo. Breve tiempo, pero suficiente para ser consignado en la historia del jazz como uno de los dos más grades "realizadores" en las teclas.(Fuente MusicCenter).
