Supreme Littleness Desert Fort Ruin

Here's one I didn't make earlier

I spotted this over the weekend and I'm sorely tempted to get one. It's 28mm and would work very well for the Back of Beyond or any other colonial skirmish themed game, from the North West Frontier to the Arabian Desert. In fact, I'm sure it will turn up all over the place in The Men Who Would Be Kings and Arab Revolt scenarios and such like.

However, I really want one in 15mm to use for my post-colonial retreat from Empire plans, as it would be just the job for the hilltops of the Radfan. I guess I'll just have to wait until the 15mm equivalent arrives in the web shop thingy. I think I'll ping an email off to the Supreme Littleness HQ with a polite request in the meantime.

Desert Terrain Cloth on the Cheap

I've been hunting for a decent (cheap!) desert terrain cloth for ages, specifically one that matches with my existing terrain features and figures. When I was in France over Easter we did the usual supermarket run and I found this heavy duty beige coloured table cloth, which I thought looked close enough to a khaki shade to match my Old West and Back of Beyond scenery. I used the Halfords Ultra Matt Khaki spray for this and so the usual sandy desert mats just don't look right.

I promptly forgot about it until yesterday when I was base texturing my Back of Beyond oil derrick, so dug it out of the box and took a few photos with some hastily posed bandits and lawmen. I think it will do until I can make some proper modular terrain boards, which I've been meaning to do for a while. I was wondering about adding some texture or brushed on weathering to break up the monotone but I think I'll just leave it as it is for the moment.

The Arab Revolt 1916-18

I've nearly finished Road of Bones, which has been a real page turner and very interesting, so I've been looking around for my next bit of historical background reading. As I've just ordered a small selection of the Artizan WW1 Arabs, I thought I'd have a dig around for some inspirational stuff and ordered a copy of the Osprey Campaign series book on the Arab Revolt from Amazon, using a birthday voucher that I was given back in January. It looks like a worthwhile but conveniently quick read and should give me some ideas that I can use with Through the Mud and the Blood, assuming that I get round to it sooner rather than later.

Artizan Arabians

Oh dear...

Not sure what possessed me to get these, apart from my son's latest Tintin book, but I've been thinking about them for a few months and finally took the plunge yesterday.

They are destined for some sort of skirmish type set up, perhaps against my Back of Beyond oil prospecting team or my as yet unpainted Copplestone Turks. They're really nice figures and I'm looking forward to painting them up but they're nowhere near the front of the queue and, for the moment, will be consigned to the ever expanding leadpile.
