Positive Day in the Bloggosphere

Today I am participating in Positive Day, the brainchild of Diva Daughter at Dust Bunny Hostage.

This is a day when I am going to list all the wonderful things that are positive in my life.

1. I woke up this morning.

2. I woke up beside the man that I love (well I was awake for a few seconds when he kissed me goodbye (before going to work), and told me that he loved me.

3. I have 10 glorious children, 14 fabulous grand children, 3 delightful sons-in-law, 2 darling daughters-in-law, a loving father and mother, and
friends who ARE family!

4. I have a roof over my head (that's covering a lovely home), and plenty to eat (maybe too much to eat:-(, and clothes on my back.

5. I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me, and that Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice - making it possible for me to return to my Father in Heaven.

6. I have a mind that still works (most of the time) and I am able to learn new and interesting things each and every day.

7. I have two dogs that give me more love, than any
one person can hold.

8. I live in a free country where I can speak my mind, and vote my conscience.

9. I have running water (hot and cold), A/C, a microwave, and a side by side that has ice and water in the door. I have many other modern conveniences that make my day to day living physically easier and much more pleasant. I have Cable TV, and shelves filled with books. And a camera that captures moments in time that I want to remember. I have a computer that places the world at my fingertips.

10.I have doctors who have been able to properly diagnose my medical conditions,
and have prescribed medication that give me some relief of my pain,
treat my conditions and enable me to sleep.

11. I am able to sleep!

12. I Did I mention that I have people I love, and who love me back?

13. I have all of you, my friends and co-horts, in the wonderful land of blogdom.

So now it's your turn. What are the positives in your life?

This is my second post for today.
Scroll down for my first post!

My Child Gave Me Brain Damage

A few readers
(in response to yesterdays post)
have asked me to explain what caused my memory loss.
So if you're one of those who asked ...here's the story:

When my youngest daughter was about a week old,
I had a massive postpartum hemorrhage,
which caused a severe lack of oxygen - resulting in the memory loss.
Sometimes it's quite frustrating,
but it's a small concession, considering the alternative.

I am alive today because of the two fantastic
Polk County EMT's
(and the ambulance driver)
who responded to the 911 call...
The wonderful doctors and nurses at Lakeland Regional Medical Center...
Numerous blood transfusions
(and the selfless blood donors who made those transfusions possible) ...
My ob/gyn, who got "patched" into the ambulance
and gave the paramedics my medical history,
and then drove to the hospital
(which was not the one that he was affiliated with)
and stayed with me for hours
- throughout my emergency D & C -
and then my emergency abdominal hysterectomy.
And of course, my husbands prayers.

I was not expected to live, and at best...to be a veggie.
But instead of being a corpse or a veggie,
I'm just a FRUITCAKE!

"There, but by the grace of God, go I."
I am truly thankful.

End of story.

Guess what it's doing now?

In Memory of Erma

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER - by Erma Bombeck
(written after she found out she was dying from cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage. I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
hile watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle. When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, 'Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.' There would have been more 'I love you's' More 'I'm sorry's.'
But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute.look at it and really see it . live it and never give it back. STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!
Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Water ya Doing?

Thanks to Robin at Around the Island for hosting Summer Stock Sunday!

On Tuesday - the last full day that the kids were with me...we headed over to a friends house to swim. Everyone had so much fun. We were only going to go over for a couple of hours, but ended up staying for 5 hours. The kids only took a break for about 20 minutes to have sandwiches and orange juice. The favorite game of the day, was toss the football! If you look carefully you can see the ball heading right towards Corey's hands. Hunter is waiting for his turn.

I got this sweet shot of Ethan and Eve. They really do get along very well. He is such a good big brother...always looking out for his little sister!

It's Goggle Man!

Woohoo!

The boys all had a blast posing with their knees in Corey's shoes, and then falling into the pool.

Corey - the mini man.

Catching the ball before hitting the water.

He's not gonna let go.

Bryson, Eve and Rodeo the Wonder Dog. As long as the kids are in the pool, he's watching out!

Fumble.

Jumping off the diving board.

Hey look - Bryson can walk on water.

Good catch Hunter!

Ethan caught this one.

I hope that you all enjoyed seeing these photo's. I'll be counting the months, weeks, and days...till my "summer grand kids" are back!

Eat Out at Home!

I found a great site, that any of you cooks out there, might be interested in.
It's called Top Secret Recipes. Todd Wilbur has come up with recipes that rival the dishes found at many of the chain restaurants across the country. A few of the recipes that immediately caught my eye, were:

Olive Garden - Marina and Alfredo Dipping Sauces
KFS's - Cole Slaw
Roadhouse Grill - Baby Back Ribs
Boston Market - Sweet Potato Casserole
Applebee's - Low Fat Asian Chicken Salad

Some of the recipes are free, and others can be purchased for 99 cents each. You can also purchase Top Secret Recipe books, spices, and gift certificates.

Last night I made KFC cole slaw. Mine was even better!
It was a quick simple recipe with everyday ingredients.
Head on over and check this site out.

It's Thursday - And My House is QUIET.

Nothing much from me today. The house is so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. I've got a book that I must finish reading, so that I can post a review over at Libby's Literary Library, which by the way, is doing very well. I hope to have another book up for grabs in the next day or two.

I will have a fantastic post (if I say so myself) on Saturday. I got such great photo's of my grand kids, in my friends pool. I'm actually really proud of some of the shots that I got. These will be linked into the Summer Stock Sunday over at Around the Island.

I've just placed a Melaleuca order, which should arrive on Monday. When it does, I'll be adding some goodies to my I Need 100 Followers Contest. I plan to link it on a few other sites, so maybe things will move along more quickly. Thanks to those of you who already follow!

So here is what I'm offering you today:

Do you want a good laugh...and then get a little miffed? Or maybe a lot miffed?
Then head on over to Gramma's Right Again!

Talk at ya later.

They are Leaving On A Jet Plane

Corey has been with us for 5 weeks.

Ethan and Eve have been with us for 3 weeks.

Kyeng-hee stayed for 5 days.

The house will be quiet, which is nice...but I will miss them all very much.
Life is always so bittersweet!

I Love Getting Awards!

Jientje, over at Heaven is in Belgium, passed this award on to me.
Thanks Jientje!

“The Humane Award is in order to honor certain bloggers that I feel are kindhearted individuals. They regularly take part in my blog and always leave the sweetest comments. If it wasn’t for them, my site would just be an ordinary blog. Their blogs are also amazing and are tastefully done on a daily basis. I thank them and look forward to our growing friendships through the blog world.” Recipients of this award should write a post about it, linking to the person gifted the award, along with ten of their own nominees.

So - here goes -I am sending this award to:

1. Spud Woman at Taters Mama's Take on Things - Katie Tatie always leaves a comment. I'm not so sure about her doing things tastefully, but she sure is funny and gets her point across. Tater Tot started farming when I asked her to become my Farm Town Neighbor on Facebook. She forwards sappy emails to me, and she never gets sick of my dropping the C word when I comment on her site! Oh how I love my Katie Tatie...now if only I could talk her into leaving the Old Guy and coming to live with me!

2. BZ at The Mosquitoes Buzz - How can I not love this woman? She only follows a few blogs, and mine is one of them!

3. Robynn at Robynn's Ravings - Her blog is one of the first that I started following. I "found" her after reading a comment that she left at Pioneer Woman. If you missed that famous post GO HERE. Just between you and me -Sometimes I think that Robynn embellishes the stories that she posts. But don't tell her that I said so!

4. Her Royal Highness aka Queenie at The Queen's Blog- I would like to be Queenie and live in a sweet little house called Sweet Pea Cottage. I would like to be able to write rip roaring, side splitting, laugh till you wet your pants stories...and then turn around a write a piece that makes you grab for the Kleenex. I would like to lead a lawn chair drill team, and interview farmers while they have their arm rammed up a cows rear end (well maybe not that story;-), but you get the point - right?

5. Becky at Becky And Her Babies - Cause she's my friend - has been for a very long time. We met eons ago, when our daughters were in first grade together. She is a animal nut like me. She can't pass up a stray cat. Her dogs mean the world to her. She is the best shopping buddy. We find the best junk stuff at GoodWill. She always has a shoulder to cry on, and an ear to listen. I miss her so much.

6. Vicky at The Westra World - Cause she keeps her eye on things, and always remembers her bloggy friends and keeps them in her prayers.

7. The Wife, over at Gizzards and Calf Fries. - Photographer, "cowgirl", mommy of 4 legged babies, and she totes heat! Cool.

8. Homestay Mama, who opens her Home to the World. - She turned lemons into lemonade, and in doing so, she blesses the lives of many young adults.

9. Gimpy Kat at Aunt Kathy's Place & Kathy at New Beginnings - They are both inspirations to me. They have shared with the world, their weight loss journey. It seems that the more weight these ladies lost, the bigger their heart became. I so want to take that journey with them, and maybe if I keep up my association with them, I'll make me own trip one day.

10. GITZ - I had to put her in capitols cause that's what she is. If I could just bottle up her spirit and put it in a jar, I could sell it and make millions. Just head on over to her place and you will see what I mean

Now, because I'm a sneaky little devil, I'm gonna grab this award and place it on my other blogs.

Libby's Literary Library

and

A Tail of Two Doggies

This way I can pass it on to 20 more deserving bloggers!

I'll get them posted there very soon.

PS - I'm up to 60 followers here (I Need 100 Followers Contest) and I'm going to up the Ante in another post - very soon. I Promise.

AND

Would you all please do me a favor and head on over to Libby's Literary Library and follow me there?

Thanks...MMMMMMMMMMMauh - kisses to you all!

Bad Poetry Salute - Gitz and Riley

My dear sweet Gitz and her silly dog Riley
Are always upbeat and really quite lively,
'Cept when they're down, and I say with a frown...
I gotta watch out, cause Riley might bite me!

Carrots are what keep Riley going.
For Gitz it's a deep inner knowing,
That God is divine, and keeps her in mind.
And His Spirit in her, is always showing!

( Please remember that our dear Sarah's paintings are for sale - go check her out, you'll be so glad you did. She and Riley will do your heart good!)

Bad Poetry Salute To My Friends - Day 4

Homestay Mama is rarely at home
Cause she's running her "kids" all over.
Don't know how she keeps up with them all
But love and affection they show her.

She opens her heart
And let's them all in
And she does it warmth
And a big happy grin!

Bad Poetry or Poetry in Bad Taste - Day 3

Robynn's a rave'n and rant'n.
She's squawking from morning till night.
But to tell you the truth,
And this ain't no soof,
Robynn is usually right!

Her stories are funny and witty.
And somethings she says, are quite true.
Embellish she does,
And the're funny because,
They could possibly have happened to you.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Bad Poetry Salute To My Friends - Day 2

I have a friend name Jientje
So let me now introduce you.
She's a gourmet cook,
And could write her own book!
How she does it, I don't have a clue.

Now mind you, she thinks she's in heaven
News flash at nine and eleven.
In Belgium she lives
And what I would give
To have just a taste of her liv'n.

Bad Poetry Salute To My Friends Week

This week I will be posting a poem each day.
Drop by to see if you're on the
Poetry Hall of ShameFame

Ode to my Katie Tatie

I love my Katie Tatie
She has a thing for Crisco.
She longs to be back in the state
That harbors San Franciso.

Bacon is another thing
That Tatie'd love to have
But darn it Oz just has stinky sheep
Who always need a bath.

She smokes, drinks Joe,
And says arse a lot.
But lots of heart, and love, and fun
Our Katie Taties, got!

Here's Your Stupid Sign Saturday

Please tell me that this wasn't posted because someone sued them.

Okay - okay - I won't touch the sign!!!
(Did you notice the small print at the bottom?)

????????????????????

Uuuuuuuummmm - if my kids EVER got me something from this place,
they would become orphans, caused I'd drop over dead.

And here is the stupid stunt of the week:
Two guests in the Chatham County Jail in Georgia,
burned themselves while trying to light their
hand made cigarettes...
with sparks from and electrical outlet!
They started a fire, but luckily other
inmates where able to put it out before any serious damage was done.

To you two idiots - In Jeff Foxworthy's wonderful words...
"Here's your sign"!

I'm Ranting and Raving Again

I'm up to 57 followers, but I'm looking for 100.

Go HERE

To enter my I Need 100 Followers Contest.

On to today's rant and rave.

I ask you...what is this world coming too?

Here are some of the Headlines in my paper the other day.

Python escapes terrarium, strangles Fla. girl, 2, in bed
A two year old girl was strangled by an 8-foot albino Burmese python.
Seems it escaped from its cage, and got into her bed in the middle of the night.
The owner of the snake (the boyfriend of the girls mother) did not have a permit for the python, and investigators also found a 6-foot boa constrictor in the home. The snake has been placed in a bag and then the bag was placed into an aquarium.
There was no lid on the aquarium, and apparently the bag was not tied.

Man strips naked; flight diverted
A 50 year old man removed all his clothing while sitting in his seat
aboard a US Airlines flight to Los Angeles.
He was asked several times, to put his clothes back on,
but he was unresponsive, according to a flight attendant.
She even tried to cover him up with a blanket, but he threw it off.
He even punched and kicked the flight attendant.

Police: Child left in van dies
Day-care workers left a three year old in a van for six hours.
The little girl died from hyperthermia.
This day-care had a history of noncompliance
(Thank goodness - state officials have now revoked their license!)

And last for today...
What is with all this hoopla over Michael Jackson?
Go HERE - and read this article entitled
Let's mourn the real American heroes
which pretty much sums up my thoughts!

Rain, Rain Don't Go Away

I've always wanted to have lake front property!
The reflections of the trees on the water is so soothing.
The breeze sends little ripples across the surface.
THE
ONLY
THING
THAT'S
MISSING
ARE
THE
DUCKS
!

BUT
WAIT
"
"
"
"
"

What the heck it my driveway doing in the lake?

Do you think that we have a drainage problem on our street?
Yep we sure do.
These photo's were taken several hours
after the thunderstorm that blew through yesterday.
The house next door has the drain in their driveway
about 4 feet from the street, so when we get rain,
the water soaks our yard along the street.
As you can see (next to the mailbox) our drain is filled!
Luckily, the ditch behind our house, is pretty deep
so it hasn't overflowed yet from our summer storms.
BUT
Who knows what will happen if we have a hurricane come through!

I'm truly grateful for the rain that we've received over the last few days.
It has brought the temps down to the low to mid 90's,
which has been a respite from the high 90's and low 100's
that we've experienced over the last 3 weeks!

I Need More Hours in the Day!!!!

FIRST
Go HERE to Book Giveaways
For the coolest item up for grabs!
It's a Bookshelf Lamp - and I want it sooooooo bad.
If any of you decide to enter, and you win...
would you please send it to me?

I don't know what the deal is...maybe it's cause I'm getting older,
or maybe it could be that my life is filled with too many new things
(uuuuuuuummm like blogging, Facebook games,
entering contests
- and speaking of contests -
don't forget to enter my I Need 100 Followers Contests - Go HERE),
or that I like to read, and wear clean clothes
and eat off of clean dishes
- but dang -
I just don't seem to have enough hours in the day.
Do I need a new organization plan or a life coach.
Do I need to give up some daily indulgences?
Do I need to give up sleep?

Do you have any suggestions?

Some might think that those silly games like Farm Town and
My Fairyland
and 101 Eggs and more, are a waste of time.
But I prefer to think of them as Free Therapy
(Thanks Sherri),
and don't want to drop them.
I have spent sooooooo many years taking care of children and grandchildren
(24/7 for a good 30+years),
and trying to "keep" a clean and orderly home.
I've also held down full and part-time jobs, off and on, while raising my family.
So what's wrong with spending my retirement playing games
and connecting with others in cyberworld?

NOTHING
BUT

I just can't seem to find a balance.
I'm like a kid in a candy shop, with money in my pocket,
and too much to choose from!

I used to be afraid of computers
(and to be honest I'm still a little leery of some aspects of them)
but the Internet has opened up a whole new world for me.
At the tip of my fingers I have access to almost anything.
I can find answers to sooooooooooo many questions...
like how to fix me garbage disposal
and the cheapest way to start a compost heap.
Where gas in cheapest in my vicinity
and what the weather is like in the cities where my children live.
I've made real friends - from all walks of life.
I now know the difference between uploading and downloading.
I can do volunteer work, sitting in my recliner chair.

I jump from one thing to another - sometimes having 6, 7, or 8 tabs up.
AOL Mail / My Dashboard / Mafia Wars / Google Images / Dictionary.com /
The Ledger / Wikipedia / Snopes

I don't think that my husband or my children understand this new found interest.
They laugh when I check on my crops...and think that I'm nuts for entering contests
(yeah the joke will be on them this Christmas when they look under the tree;-)

Now mind you - when it comes to my husband - I'm not so naive to think
that he's always slaving away while in his office (at home).
I know that on at least one of his computers, he's got YouTube up.
I didn't complain all these years, when he spent time playing Doom.
I haven't really minded the time he's spent on the Internet...
and he doesn't complain about the time I spend online
BUT
I feel as if I'm being "laughed at"
behind my back.

Oh well - another day - another 24 hours.
How will I spend them?
How will you spend yours?
How the heck did I get on this subject in the first place?

I don't know - but I've got a game of Farkle that's calling my name!

Macro Monday

No super macro today...been tooooo busy with the kids,
and setting up new stuff over at Libs Library.
BUT - yesterday morning the boys ran into the house yelling
" Nonnie, get your camera. Come Quick!"
So out I came.
And this dragonfly (above) was flitting around.
I tried so hard to get a good shot of him,
but any movement sent him off to another spot.
When his wings were lifted up over his head - he truly looked like a wee tiny dragon!

Below is a little lizard that came running over to see what all the fuss was about!

I'll try to be more diligent this week, in looking for good macro and super maco opportunities!

Head on over to Libby's Literary Library today, as later today,
I will be posting more links to book
(and sometimes other cool stuff) giveaways.

You can find it HERE.

Some exciting news. I was just offered my first ARC for review.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

All of the blogs that I follow - disappeared from my Dashboard.

What did I do?

How do I get them back?

Now I can't seem to add photo's from Google Images.

My head is spinning.
I feel like I can't breath.
Can't go on without all of you much longer.

Well Duh!

In Case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label Instructions on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. (As shucks - that's the only time I have to work on my hair!)

On a bag of Fritos: You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (The shoplifter special?)

On a bar of Dial Soap: Direction - Use like regular soap. (Okay.)

On some Swanson Frozen Dinners: Serving suggestion - Defrost. (But this is only a suggestion.)

On Tesco's Tiramisu Dessert (printed on bottom): Do not turn upside down. (Well why in the heck didn't you tell me that before, cause it's a bit late now!)

On packaging for a Rowenta Iron: Do not iron clothes on body. (Somebody please go get me a stupid sign!)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: Warning: May cause drowsiness. (Well Duuuuuuuuuuh!)

On Sunsbury's Peanuts: Warning - contains nuts. (Ditto above.)

On a child's superman costume: Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly. (Oh - I wish they had told me this 30 years ago when I got one for my son. Yeah he actually tried to fly.)

AND MY FAVORITE

On a sun shield for the front window of your car: Warning - Remove before driving. ( I think I better order the stupid signs by the case!!!)
