A Suggestion

"There can be no 50/50 Americanism in this country.

There is room here for only 100% Americanism,

only for those who are Americans and nothing else."

"When filling out your census form...

consider writing in "American" under other."

Thankful Thursday 3/25/10

Today, I'm very thankful for some warmer weather.
I'm thankful that it rained this morning,
because my husband put out weed and feed...
now we don't have to water:-)
I'm thankful that my husband will be home tonight...
his regular Thursday night meeting has been canceled.
I'm thankful that I'm almost ready
to mail out Easter packages for my grandchildren.
I'm thankful that I finally have my craft room
somewhat organized...maybe I'll
post photo's soon.

What a difference a week or two makes!

This is what my yard looked like about 10 days ago.
Oh - and see the little birdies...
in the 3 years that we've lived here,
I think that these are the first birds I've ever seen,
in our neighborhood!
This is my yard yesterday...notice the difference?
 Only thing is...
The weeds are growing too:-(
I was going to dig some of these monsters up today...
put it's pouring out!

Macro Monday 3/22/10

I haven't done a Macro Monday,
in a long long time...so without further ado:
Last week, I was putting together some meals for our sister missionairies.
While cutting up some veggies for a salad and for snacking,
I got a little reward...
Aren't these cherry tomato's and chunks of celery, pretty?

Did you notice that lovely red bell pepper, in the first photo?
Yep - smack dab in the middle...was a smiley face!
Have a nice day:-)

Cheap Home Alarm

I found this tip on ModernMom

Keep your car keys nearby...on the bedside table at night.
If you hear a noise outside your home
or someone trying to get in your house,
just press the panic button for your car...
The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound
until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
Hopefully this will scare the would be burglar/rapist, away.

(Note from me: Don't count on your neighbors...
they may just ignore the alarm...
Stay calm and CALL 911.
DO NOT, go looking to see
if there is anyone there.
Lock the door of the room that you're in.
Stay on the line with 911.
They would rather check out a "false alarm"
than deal with a tragedy!)

And remember to carry your keys while walking
to your car in a parking lot.
The alarm can work the same way there.
This is something that should really be shared with everyone.
Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

Saying  Grace In A Restaurant

Last  week, I took my children to a  restaurant.
My six-year-old son asked if  he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads  he said, 'God is good, God is great. Thank you  for the food, and I would even thank you more if  Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty  and justice for all! Amen!'

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I  heard a woman remark, 'That's what's wrong with  this country. Kids today don't even know how to  pray.. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I  never!'

Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, 'Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?'

As I held him and assured him  that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman  approached the table. He winked at my son and said, 'I happen to know that God thought that was a great
prayer.'

'Really?' my son  asked.

'Cross my heart,' the man  replied.

Then, in a theatrical whisper,  he added (indicating the woman whose remark had  started this whole thing), 'Too bad she never  asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is  good for the soul sometimes.'

Naturally,  I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the  meal. My son stared at his for a moment, and  then did something I will remember the rest of  my life.

He picked up his sundae and,  without a word, walked over and placed it in  front of the woman. With a big smile he told  her, 'Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good  for the soul sometimes;
and my soul is good  already.'

Melody Gardot singing BECAUSE

If you haven't heard Melody Gardot sing...
you've missed something fantastic.
Enjoy!

Gardot was born on FEb. 2nd, 1985.
When she was 19, she was out riding her bicycle,
and was hit by a car, whose driver had run a red light.
She suffered serious spinal and head injuries.
Her pelvis was shattered in two places.

She had to relearn how to do almost everything...
from brushing her teeth - to walking.
She has been left super sensitive to light and sound.
Thus the need to wear sunglasses at all times.
She has suffered long and short term memory loss.

Music therapy  became a Godsend to her.
