Bonus Post - Halloween

 The orange lettering was scheduled to appear in January with a tutorial on how to take wild wonky printing and dress it up with some outlines.

Then, beckoned to me to add some pumpkin details because it knew that I was trying to focus on the list of must-get-done.

Haha. Envelopes are my meth.

I need to add a white dot inside the mouth on the letter I. And since I do not have any of those stamps, I just made a copy and put on a fake address so this one will go inside something else.

i never got around to doing much with the vegetable stamps. that little red banner on the stamp could be used in many ways. the lettering is completely guerrilla. there is not one element of it that looks like it is supposed to look. i did do a faint pencil guideline. anyone who thinks they can't letter should just try an outline. there is something about an outline that makes the complete wonkiness seem intentional.

this is a little blah. it needs some bold black somewhere and i'd love to do the address in white on a red background. i might cheat and print out a font and adhere it. drawing it all out would be challenging.

i knew that it would be past halloween when eric received his exchange envelope so i wanted to do an example that showed how you could do very, very, sloppy lettering and still make it look fun. the france is not finished. it shows chunky letters made with highlighters. then the name shows an outline that leaves some space and some mouths and a few dots.

it's playful. you could do other kinds of doodads.

you really do not need to be good at lettering to do fun envelopes.

maybe leave a little extra space between things....
and have the address lines small, and easy to read.

jan's shattered glass

i saw an ampersand on pinterest that looked like shattered glass. so i did the name and thought both of the G-Tec inks would bleed. Only the lighter blue bled. so it turned into an unsuccessful experiment, but, i'm tossing it on the blog because i like the idea of the lettering and layout.

i did not intend to put a bow at the front of the h, but the curl looked like a c so i had to add a bow. it also looked better to pull the red over to the width of the n and i would have liked it even better if the red went as far left as the n is to line up with the red address.

simpson bart

i can't imagine that the blue castle badger is a fan of the simpsons, but his address was the first one i found in my pile of addresses.john neal's nice little g-tec pens are good for the little accent colors. i did not have any orange on the envelope and it was missing something. so i added the c/o line.

wish they would reissue this stamp. outlining is a go-to technique to add a little extra to simple lettering.
