Ms. Led

Not sure how it happened but I just checked and we’ve never posted anything about Ms. Led before on SPB. Never mentioned their excellent album Shake Yourself Awake that made both Sound on the Sound and Three Imaginary Girls best of 2007 lists. Completely missed their cool video of “New Agenda” when it came out last December. Never noted any of their shows even when they opened for The Posies or Imperial Teen. All I can say is this is the first of what I’m sure will be many more posts about this awesome Seattle powerpop band.

Ms. Led will be playing an early show this Sunday (3/23) at High Dive with Siren’s Sister and Speaker Speaker – should be great.

In case you’ve somehow managed to overlook it too, here is the video for “New Agenda” directed by Gina Mainwal.

Young Sportsmen, The Box Social and Speaker Speaker tonight

The Mars Bar is hosting a cool show tonight (Saturday, June 23) featuring Young Sportsmen, The Box Social and Speaker Speaker. I've written a ton about Young Sportsmen and Speaker Speaker here. But, I'm quite excited about seeing The Box Social, who are from Madison, Wisconsin and are just touring through town.

I really dig the sounds on their myspace page. They're somewhat close to the pop-punk side of the world. But, I don't think they're nearly as snarky as a lot of pop-punk bands. They will fit really well in between the Sportsmen and Speaker Speaker, since I can hear shared influences with both acts.

Here's a video from about a year ago of them performing a tune called "Hot Damn."

The last of the Speaker Speaker video tour diaries

This one is done up Proclaimers-style.

Now that they're home, you can catch these guys a few times this weekend, including the Fremont Fair, Capitol Hill Block Party "blockstar" competition at Vera, an all-ages thing at Atlas and an Audioasis show on KEXP. It's like a Speaker Speaker carpet bomb!

Speaker Speaker performance vid & tour blog

The guys of Speaker Speaker are criss-crossing the country as we speak. If you read their myspace blog, then you've seen a boatload of tour video diaries. They've just added some footage of a show in Chicago, which I'm posting below. But, you can see the host of tour footage, which ranges from performaing to goofing around to having people impersonate them for an interview, on their myspace page blog.

Speaker Speaker video

The dudes from Speaker Speaker have put out a video for their song "Statues/Shadows." Cute video for a cute, quick tune.

Free show @ The Croc on Friday

It looks like the headliner has cancelled. So, rather than do nothing, The Crocodile is having a free show on Friday (3/9) featuring The Hands, Speaker Speaker, and The Lights. Sounds like a good time to me!

Sirens Sister show and video

I just got word that Siren Sister, Speaker Speaker, Slowly We Survive and The Lonely Forrest are playing at the Redmond Firehouse tonight. That's a fairly alliteration-heavy line up... lots of S's. :) If you're on the eastside or don't mind trekking across the water, check 'em out. According to the band, it's a 7pm start time.

I'm fairly certain I've posted this video from Sirens Sister before. But, it's a great, soaring tune with U2-esque vocals in front of powerpoppy music.

Monday Morning mp3

Good morning all!

Today's Monday Morning mp3 is "Statues/Shadows" by speaker speaker. That's a fair amount of alliteration for 8:45am. :)

They've got a number of shows coming up this month. You can read all about it on their myspace page.

Sounding more punk than pop in this clip, here's Speaker Speaker appearing on Shorewood High School's television show.

Speaker Speaker on 107.7 Sunday

Just got an email regarding Speaker Speaker appearing Sunday on The Young and The Restless show on 107.7 The End. Here's the email:

Just thought I'd let you know that Speaker Speaker is playing live on 107.7 The End's local music show, the Young and the Restless, this Sunday night. The show is 8-10pm, and the band should be on around 9. They'll be playing live versions of songs from their unreleased album, Call It Off, as well as chatting with host Chris Travis (and Stranger Interim Music Editor Megan Seling?). Maybe they'll take requests? Maybe they'll spin some songs from the album? You just don't know. You just. don't. know.

But it will be awesome! They are also promoting their upcoming show at the Vera Project/YMCA on Nov. 4th, with the Lashes, No-Fi Soul Rebellion, and the Neons! Feel free to share on your SP blog.

You can also listen live at www.1077theend.com, AND it will be archived on the site as well, at least for a week..

So, now you know!

Two great tastes...

.... that you might not expect together. And those two things are: Edmonds and rock-n-roll. That's right, my 'burgh has rock music. And all-ages rock music, at that!!

The venue is called The Halcyon, and they have a truck load of shows in the coming weeks and months. Technically, it's located in Perrinville, which is a touch north of Lynnwood, where Edmonds curves around on the waterfront. This map does a better job of describing it that I do.

Of particular interest for you might be the Speaker Speaker show there this Friday (9/29).

Speaker Speaker/Some By Sea in Tacoma

Tonight is Some By Sea's last gig ever (they played their last Seattle gig a few weeks back). They're at Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma with Speaker Speaker (shown below). Go show 'em some love.
