Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaking at Ohio Northern University Chapel, Ada, Ohio

On January 11, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at Ohio Northern University. At the time of his visit to Ada, Ohio and ONU, Dr. King was an international figure. He was the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Prize and only the 12th American to ever do so. He was at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement and a key social figure of the turbulent 1960s.

Jim HARRIS & The Sidewinders on Fabar

Jim HARRIS
& The Sidewinders

15563 ~ Three Chartreuse Buzzards Sitting On A Fence
15564 ~ I'm On The Outside Looking In

Fabar Records

1965

A-side is penned by Jim Harris.  B-side is a cover of   a 1964 hit song by Little Anthony and the Imperials, issued on DCP Records (their comeback single, ending a long period of inactivity.)

No info on Jim Harris or on The Sidewinders.

According to buckeyebeat.com,
this Columbus label was owned by Bill Strickland with two other non-musicians.   All the Fabar records were recorded at Magnetic.  Fabar did not use a catalog numbering system so all the label 'numbers' are the pressing plant matrix numbers.

CP-3968 ~ Time Out For Love

Ransom Records # 103

Interviewed about the 5 Fortunes, Morris Wade -who also recorded for the label- said : "
They were in the military. They were stationed at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus. We were all friends and socialized some, but I can’t remember their names."
That's all we known about this Columbus black vocal group. A copy of this extremely rare record is currently auctioned at eBay. If you are interested, hurry up : only 3 hours left... Highest bid : $419.00

The three previous releases on the label (including the #100 issued on the misspelled Ranson Records) were pressed by King Records of Cincinnati.

Hull 1056 and Hull 1060 - Early Mus-I-Col

Gospelaires Quartet - Hull 1056
16631/16632, Rite Acct # 1449, 1966
See images for song titles

Flowers Family - Hull 1060
17073 - Wild And Reckless
17074 - Once Again
Rite Acct #1449, 1966

John Hull started the Musicol (Mus-I-Col) recording studio in his home in Columbus, Ohio in 1965 and within a year moved to a permanent studio. Most of his early recordings were pressed by Rite but in 1969 he acquired the equipment to press records. These two previously undocumented releases are on his own Hull label, however, the Flowers Family 45 appears to have been re-released about a year later on Mus-I-Col 1090.

Most or all of the Rite pressings for Mus-I-Col have OM or O/M on the label or dead wax. I believe I've seen it on some other Rite pressings from about the same time as well. Any good explanation of it's purpose or meaning is much appreciated!

Elijah & the Ebonies on Loren

Elijah & the Ebonies

Loren L020

27921 - Pure Soul
27922 - Sock It To 'Em Soul Brother

I've seen this record listed as a QCA pressing, but never as a Rite pressing. I don't known which one came first. Both pressings are from 1971. Note the slight difference : group is listed here as THE EBONIES and on the QCA pressing as THE EBONITES. According to the Sir Shambling"s website, Elijah (Hawthorne) & the Ebonies were from the South Carolina. A Loren Records discography can be found here.
