New mini project started

 These are the first few models of a kind of mini project I have started working on.

I always like the idea introduced in Warhammer 3rd edition, to have a baggage train for my armies and always had in mind to collect of build some wagons and baggage followers as described in the rulebooks.

I finally decided it was time to build some, so with a few leftover horses and random figures I started working on the wagons. 

At the same time IlVJ sent me some figures he had cast with Prince August molds and I also have a few of the train followers I wanted.

These first models are all humans, so they could be used for both Bretonnia and Empire armies.

In this post we have a wizard wagon, I imagine carrying all the spell components and summoning supplies the army might need and pulled by some exotic creature the wizard has bound to his will. The other 2 models are the Prince August I mentioned above, they are supposedly dungeon hirelings, but I think they fit well in the baggage train carrying around bags of supplies or unloading wagons.

PS: I will be on holiday for the next three weeks and I'll go back to visit the family in Italy, so there won't be any posting for that period, I'll be back blogging as soon as I get back.

Semi project completed

 I don't feel like calling this a full project, in fact it is only a unit, but a very large one.

E few years ago I started this Khorne Chaos Goblins unit, according to the Realm of Chaos army list of Khorne, I am allowed to field up to 120 of the little guys.

When the idea came to me, I planned to use the Skull Pass (7th edition) night goblins for the unit, but I soon realized that it would not be so easy to gather 120 of them.

I sparted painting what I had, but then decided to add any goblin I would find, that would add to the chaotic mood of the unit.

First addition were a bunch of converted goblins and unit fillers, using bits that I had in my spare box, next were some Grenadier goblins, then some Ral Partha and a whole bunch of home cast Prince August that IlVJ had the molds for.

Now the unit has a very chaotic feel and I'm looking forward to field it in battle, it will probably be pretty useless as a giant mob, but I feel I have to try it at least once.

RPG animals

This week I only have a few little animals I painted for RPG and maybe wargames.

These are the kind of models I keep on the side of my painting area and when I have leftover of colours on the palette I paint parts of them, at some point I find they are done and I have extra bits and bobs to use in games with little to no effort, they might not be the best, but they get the job done on the table top.

Chaos rising/L'alba del Caos

 Recently I managed to get a few games together (see the old school gaming blog) using the Warhammer 3rd edition rules for warbands in Realm of Chaos.

It has been a blast and, as I remember happened 30 years ago, I am trying to keep up with the warbands evolving and requiring new models every week.

I am clearly not keeping up, here in Canada I don't have 30 years of painted stuff to pick from, so I do what I can, but it is a lot of fun. 

Here are the models that I recently painted to boost the ranks of the various warbands.

Ultimamente sono riuscito a mettere assieme alcune partite usando le regole di Warhammer terza edizione per le warbands del caos di Realm of Chaos.

E' stato uno spasso e, come ricordo successe 30 anni fa, sto cercando di star dietro alle warbands che cambaino e crescono costantemente ogni settimana.

Ovviamente non ci sto riuscendo, qui in Canada non ho 30 anni di modelli dipinti da cui attingere, ma faccio quello che puo', e' comunque un gran divertimento.

Khorne reinforcements for Warhammer (Oldhammer)/Rinforzi di Khorne per Warhammer (Oldhammer)

 A substantial addition to the forces of Khorne in my Warhammer army.

The beastmen and thug archers are the last models from the Battlemasters set that my friend Marco gave me many years ago.

The goblins are an addition to for the 120 chaos goblins unit that I should be able to finish with the remaining Ral Partha goblins I have to paint (20-25).

The warrior of Khorne is made with various bits I had lying around, I used the head of a daemon produced by a store in Torino that I was given many years ago, it came with 2 heads and the unused one looked like a cool sculpted breastplate for a chaos warrior.

The Bloodletter was a lonely one I had in my pile.

Un sostanziale rinforzo per il mio esercido di Khorne di Warhammer.

I beastmen ed i thugs arcieri sono gli ultimi pezzi della scatola di Battlemasters che il mio amico Marco mi regalo' tanti anni fa.

I goblin sono un'aggiunta per l'unita' da 120 chaos goblins su cui lavoro da quando sono venuto in Canada, dovrei riuscire a completarla con gli ultimi pezzi della Ral Partha che ho (20-25).

Il guerrero di Khorne e' fatoo con vari avanzi che avevo, ho usato la testa di un demone prodotto da un negozio di Torino che avevo ricevuto anni fa. Il pezzo aveva due teste e quella che non ho usato mi sembrava andasse bene come pettorina scolpita per un guerriero del chaos.

Il Bloodletter era un pezzo singolo che avevo nel mucchio.

Oldhammer Orc siege dinosaur/Dinosauro d'assedio degli Orchi di Oldhammer

 This project is a homage to the old school idea to use toy dinosaurs as siege beasts. A few months ago I bought 4 of these at the dollar store to add to a Tamiya one that I bought years ago in Japan.

They will be part of two different armies, but since they are quite long to complete, I will probably post one or two at the time over the course of a few months.

Basing these models is quite a challenge, any base big enough for them tend to warp if sanded or textured with wall filler. 

I luckily had a plastic display base IlVJ had given me on my last trip to Japan, it is kind of thick to be running around a battlefield, but I'm sure these models will only appear in big battles and, given the rate of games I'm managing at the moment, it won't be soon anyway.

Questo progetto e' un omaggio alle idee vecchia scuola di usare dei dinosauri giocattolo come bestie d'assedio. Alcuni mesi fa ho comprato 4 di questi dinosauri al dollarama, da aggiungere ad un modello della Tamiya che comprai anni fa in Giappone.

Faranno parte di due diversi eserciti, ma siccome ci vuole abbastanza a completarne anche uno solo, li postero' probabilmente uno o due alla volta nel corso dei prossimi mesi.

Trovare un piedistalloa datto a pezzi cosi' grossi e' sempre un problema, qualunque piedistallo di legno o MDF grosso abbastanza, tende ad imbarcarsi, una volta testurizzato con sabbia o stucco.

Fortunatamente durante il mio ultimo viaggio in Giappone, IlVJ mi ha omaggiato di questo piedistallo da esposizione che, anche se un po' spesso, e' comunque utilizzabile su un campo di battaglia. Considerando anche la scarsa quantita' di partite dell'ultimo periodo, questo non costituisce alcun problema.

Dragon Rampant and Oldhammer/Dragon Rampant e Oldhammer

 IlVJ just finished a new unit. He has this idea of converting the La Maisontaal scenario for Dragon Rampant, and has put together a unit of monks to be the defenders of the abbey.

They are Prince August models he cast with a few minor conversions for variety and esthetics.

IlVJ ha appena finito una nuova unita'. Ha avuto l'idea di convertire lo scenario de La Maisontaal per dragon Rampant, quindi ha messo assieme un'unita' di monaci per rappresentare i difensori dell'abbazia.

Sono dei pezzi della Prince August che ha castato lui con qualche minima modifica per aggiungere varieta' e migliorare l'estetica.
