Finished reading challenge: Mount TBR

Bev at My reader's block hostedthe awesome Mount TBR challenge. I spotted there a chance to reduce my pile of books waiting to be read and signed up. While I completed the challenge, sadly my stack of books is not smaller at all ( you will see in my TBR 2013 sign up post) . However, for 2012 I signed for Pike'd Peak which means 12 books that were in my possesion before the start of 2012

Bev asked us to share some interesting moments during the climb. Well , I think I should mention the obvious fact that I have the habit of buying whole series of books without even knowing if I will like them. I guess normal people are getting the first one, reading it and then deciding if they should buy the rest or nor. But nope, not me.
Another notable mention - the Thomas Brezina series of books. First of all, again, the English titles aren't original - I translated the Bulgarian ones since I have no idea what the originals mean. All of them are about 150 pages each. And I read them (by accident. they started first. they made me) right in the middle of challenge where you were supposed to read books with 400 pages or more.

Bev also has a very interesting list of "life events" that should be filled using book titles. But I have no idea how to complete it using the 80+ title from the year overall, what's left using only these XD So I will leave you only with the list of my climo to Pike's Peak

In any case, this was one of my fav challenges this year and I'll be sure to sign up for the next one

Може да ви направи впечатление голямото количество поредици. Имам неприятния навик да купувам по няколко книги от поредица, дори и без да съм прочела първата. Нормалните хора сигурно прочитат първия том, решават дали им харесва и след това нападат останалите. Да, ама аз пък не.
Друго любопитно нещо, съпътствало изкачването, е цялата поредица на Брецина. Всяка от книжките е дебела максимум 150 страници. И всичките ги прочетох (не съм аз виновна. Те първи започнаха. Те ме накараха.) точно по средата на предизвикателство, чиято цел беше да се четат книги с над 400 страници.

Записах се на това предизвикателство с надеждата да намаля купчините си с книги за четене, но в крайна сметка се оказа, че ще прекрача в новата 2013 с доста по-голям куп, отколкото миналата година. Ще се убедите сами в това от поста ми за записване за това предизвикателство за новата година :D Защото определено ще се включа пак!

 

Reading report part 2: summer read-y plans

I'm pretty sure there isn't a word read-y like this, but I took a liking to this one, so I'm keeping it. So now for what I promised you, my TBR pile. And please forgive the messy shelf on the back
 

So this is what I gathered through the long, cold and study (like this word too) winter. Ok, some titles you may now from my similar post last year. At that time, the pile was much smaller, and to make up for it, I added a teddy bear. But now I don't think there's a need for it (but Teddy Vladimir will always be glad to show up for you, if you want him) I couldn't get to sime book, so we'll see what we'll happen to them this time=
Now, how things work: pile on the left are the priority books, smaller pile on the right  may have to wait a little. Interested in the titles? For sanity's sake I'm not putting numbers on the list. Starting from the left pile's bottom:

If you're wondering what to say, maybe something like "You're so doomed" will be appropriate.  And of course, for obvious reasons, you can't see ebooks here..But then again, I have no personal life.
For the summer I decided to join Big Book Summer Challenge hosted by Book by Book

 It runs from the end of May till the beginning of September and all you have to do in order to qualify, is read one book 400+pages. I have a few chuncksters in my pile, but I vote for Lover Revenged, as I'm in a vampire soap opera mood, so I know I will read this book during the summer.

И така между другото, реших да прочета една книжка за Big  Book Summer Challenge от Book by Book. 
Условията - от края на май до началото на септември - поне една 400+ страници книга. Едничка. От това по-лесно здраве му речи. За това предизвикателство нарекох "Отмъстената любов", защото в момента съм на вълна вампирски сапунени опери, та съм сигурна, че ще я свърша. Пък ако се добера до трилогията за "Живия хаос", още по-добре.

Изпуснах официалната дата за отчет в края на юни, така че сега наваксвам с материала. Както си личи от списъчето горе, общата сметка е 34 заглавия - като тук включваме и препрочитанията, и комиксите, и фенските мини допълнения, абе всичко. Сега да видим как разпределяме тази чудесия по различните предизвикателства. По някое време направо на човек му се приисква да си вземе елка. Та:
За моето лично Шелфари предизвикателство за новопрочетени книжки - бройката е 33 от 40. Тука ще се вдига летвата, защото иначе следващото предизвикателство
Надмини себе си, губи смисъл. Миналата година ги преброих 48. Сега тук имам 5 книжки на Астерикс, и тъй като всяка е тъничка от около 40 странички, реших, че ще е по-честно всичко Астерикско да обединя под едно номерче. Така че 30 за тук.
Европейското предизвикателство е 3 от 5 като обиколих Ирландия, Англия и Русия, засега имам набелязани Холандия и Испания, но мога да кривна от маршрута.
Вълшебно-приказното предизвикателство на практика го изпълних - попълнени са шестте бройки - 3 приказки, една модерна приказна книга, и двата сериала. Това предизвикателство беше страшно забавно, особено със самоделните ми преводи на народни приказки и поизмислети думички (ами като няма в речника нероден, прибягваме до каквото дойде наум). Всъщност с измислянето още не съм свършила, защото трябва да се довършат ревюта и прочее преди да мога честно да си го броя за завършено предизвикателство.

TBR checkpoint

Hi everyone! I planned to post this the weekend, but I spotted the time limit for the checkpoint and didn't want to risk and miss it, so here I go - first checkpoint for the TBR challenge hosted my Bev of My reader's block. Here's what I read since the beginning of the year that counts to this challenge

So this makes 6 of 12, half way to my mountain's top. Hmm what else to say.. it's pretty obvious that when shopping for books last year I armed myself with quite some ya series. here we have the Skulduggery Pleasent 4th book that was in cutest purple and gave us some curious hints about some of the characters'past and future, the 2nd book of Rick Riordan's new Greek Gods series that finally reveals what's going on with Percy, gives us cool new characters, an option for a little love drama in the final book, book-loving harpie and bloody sacrfices of plushie animals. Ok, maybe not bloody, but still there's drama. And I fought my way through the second and third Septimus Heap books. When I accused my mom that she was leaving these books on a pile, she said that given the name of the character, it's only natural. This series is going slower than I thought, even if it's very interesting and from chapter to chapter you don't know where you're going.
That's for the YA. We then have Zotov's Less Angel that followed the first More demon (or Minus angel and Plus Demon. Here the titles were Elexir in Hell and Epidemy in Heaven) that continues the adventures of our brave Kalashnikov and his right hand who after investigating a serie of soul murders in hell in the first book now have to check what's going on in Heaven and why are angels disappearing. This is the book that has been in my TBR pile for the longest time. A little more than an year - not that much but still the longest. It couldn't grab me like the first volume did and I read it little by little with long pauses, but in the end it awarded me with a happy ending and an awww scene when Kalashnikov met his wife.
And finally, the Fragile things selection of short stores by Neil Gaiman, that also goes to the Horror/triller challenge, so I'll have to make a review some time soon - stay tooned I guess!

И така, от този списък какво може да се заключи... че перди началото на годината съм се запасила със стабилно количество многотомни серии от щанда за младежка литература. Имаме четвъртия том от Скълдъгъри Плезънт, който беше в очарователен лилав цвят, и който ни поднесе някои любопитни нещица относно миналото и бъдещето на героите, които трябва да се разяснят в следващата част. А после и втората част от новата поредица на Рик Риърдън за гръцките богове, в която Пърси най-накрая се завръща, придружен от книголюбива харпия и интересни нови полубогове. Освен това книгата предоставя лек потенциал за романтичен конфликт, ама не колкото да те разсее от факта, че накрая харпията и циклопът се залюбиха, и всъщност наистина са сладка двойка. А после имаме и втори и трети том от поредицата за Септимъс Хийп, която въпреки че е много интересна, ми върви по-баво от очакваното, не знам защо. А наистина си е интересна, и от глава на глава не знаеш какво ще се случи и накъде ще те поведе.
Следващото, макар и вече не от втория етаж на Хеликона (т.е. детската и юношеска литература), пак е продължение - Епидемия в рая продължава детективските разследвания на Калашников и дясната му ръка (и ляв пантоф - това от коя книга беше?) Малинин. След като разкриват серията убийства на души в ада, те са пратени на командировка в рая, за да разберат кой стои зад мистериозните изчезвания на ангели. Тази книга ми стоя най-дълго на купчето. Не можа да ме хване като предшественичката си, все я взимах и оставях само след няколко прочетени страници. Пак, не че не беше интересна. Има си кримка, има си сатира, а накрая за моя радост и хепи енд - Малинит откри как да внася нелегално в рая алкохол, а на Калашников разрешиха да се види с жена си.
И последно имаме Чупливи неща на Нийл Геймън, но тъй като тази книга спада и към Хорър и трилър предизвикателството, и като такава и се полага отделно ревю.

For the Terry Pratchett challenge - I have no real progress to the books I set to read, although I did reread Night Watch. Does rewatching the Hogfather, starting to stitch him, and cooking one recepe from my Nanny Ogg cookbook count to this challenge?

This post is just meant for me to keep track of the reading challenges and total number of reads through the year. Since I'm not sure how to make those cool buttons on the top of the blog, (and I think it might involve a change to other more suitable blog layout, something I don't want to do as I like my chocolate goodness layout) I'm doing this the easiest way it comes to my mind - just making a post that I'll edit through the year when I finish a book

The Sir Terry Pratchett reading challenge 2012

I've just found it, and as I'm quite a Terry Pratchett fan, I signed up. My goal for this is to read all the TP books I haven't yet, that have been published in Bulgaria. I just checked the list, and it seems I have four left - two I've never read, and other two I had to return to the library without finishing them. If something new gets translated and published this year, I'll put it too.

Past and future reading activities: some lists, stats and goals

So, lets start with the future! Yesterday I mentioned I joined the TBR reading challenge from the blog My reader's block, where your goal is to read as many as possible from the books you bought and piled dureing the past years. There are several milestones, cleverly named after different mountains. I decide to go for the smallest onem which in this case is Pike's Peak and is the equivalent of 12 books from the pile. Even though I have enough stash to climb quite bigger heights, I don't trust myslef not to go, buy, and start new ones, and besides, I love rereading, that is also not included.
It is not necessairy to make and follow a list in order to join, but here are some titles that will def be included (and that are in hand's reach so I can check the original title)

And I can also tell you that some works of Neil Gaiman and Nikolai Tellalov will most def be added. The first two books I've just added to my reading now list. I was wondering wich one to dig first, but as mom took the Son of Neptune, I'm left with the Dark Days. But she keeps coming to my room to tell me spoilers from the book. It's actually quite nice to have her hooked on the same series as me. After I bought the first book for Septimus Heap, she went and got the whole series. But as the last one is not out yet, now she's kinda depressed, because she's left with too many on going series, poor thing.

Now let's see what I managed to read this past year. Unfortunatelly for me I can mark only new reads to my goal on Shelfari (or at least I don't know how to mark rereads). This year I reread the whod HP saga, so I think I finished at least 45. I think this year I will have to manage a TBR list, a new reads list and a list of total lists. A list in a list in a list. Sounds awesome. And I should watch Inception too.

The "goal" option on Shelfari is not a widget, so I'm just copying the text, but the link are still active, which is cool

И така, нека да започнем книжния преглед от бъдещето, т.е. от плановете за новата година, които традиционно доста надценяват реалните възможности, но в това се таи част от чара им. В последния ден на старата година засякох едно читателско предизвикателство TBR reading challenge , където целта е да прочетеш колкото можеш повече от книгите, които си си купил и които събират прах и чакат звездния си миг. И за да е по-интересно, целите са представени под формата на планини, чиито върхове изкачваш. Аз си набелязах като цел най-ниската планина, Пайкс Пийк (Pike's Peak) , която никога не съм чувала, но тъй като географските ми познания не са особено обширни, това не е чак толкова изненадващо. По-важно в случая е, че тя отговаря на 12 книги от купчината. ВЪпреки че имам материал да покоря доста по-високи върхове, нямам достатъчно доверие в себе си, че няма да пренебрегна къщните запаси за сметка на нещо ново току-що донесено от книжарницата.

Освен това произведения на Нийл Геймън и Николай Теллалов също ще бъдат включени. Първите две книги даже вече си ги включих в списъка "чета в момента", като се колебаех с коя да се заема по-сериозно, но тъй като мама чете Синът на Нептун, за мен останаха Мрачните дни. Затова път тя не пропуска да мине през стаята и да сподели някой и друг спойлер, като да речем как са предвидили бъдещето на Пърси по вътрешностите на плюшена панда. Всъщност да сме зарибени по едни и същи поредици си е много хубаво. След като взех първата книга на Анджи Сейдж за Септимъс Хийп, тя се запали и набързо попълни поредицата, осигурявайки ми доста материал за четене.

Дотук с бъдещетие планове. Да обърнем поглед към изминалата година. На Шелфари си бях поставила за цел да прочета 50 книги, но тъй като там мога да отбелязвам само новичките току-що прочетени книжки, а не и препрочитанията, бройката не е много точна. Там ми излезе 38 книжки, но тъй като препрочетох и цялата ХП сага по случай излизането на последния филм, а също и някои други неща, финалната бройка трябва да ми е най-млако 45. И така, за тази година ще трябва да си имам списък за TBR книгите, които са вече купени и ще бъдат прочетени за първи път, списък на Шелфари с всички прочетени за пръв път книги и общ списък включващ и евентуални препрочитания. Списък в списъка в списъка. Звучи като Inception, който филм също трябва евентуално да видя

И общо взето това е относно плановете за читателската дейност :)
