Matthew Carter Interiors

Grown-up house goals from Kentucky-based designer Matthew Carter...whose portfolio is worth your time today.

His mixes are complex but feel effortless. His design is traditional but reads modern. He uses bold color in neutral ways.

The restraint, the whimsy, the classic, the bold...it's all there, friends. And all of these spaces - from the lively to the demure - are perfectly balanced in just the right way.

If you want to see more of Mr. Carter's talent, check out his website here

New from Megan Young

I always have my eye on Megan Young, one of my favorite designers. What appeals to me about Megan's work is her ability to mix the very traditional so it feels modern.

Virtually every element in these spaces is traditional, yet by mixing styles, scale, fabrics and colors, Megan creates really fresh spaces that certainly feel classic but not at all stuffy. That is a skill. And she has mastered it.

Above photos are from Megan's website from a New Jersey home that I have yet to see (I tend to stalk her website) so I was thrilled to set my eyes on some of her additional work.

Margaret Kirkland

I have to admit that I am woefully behind on my print shelter mags. My preferred reading these days are books on How to Raise a Human, but a link in House Beautiful's Twitter feed alerted me to their new wave of up-and-coming designers that I think appears in their November issue.

And I was immediately drawn to pretty Southern lady-designer Margaret Kirkland:

You know I love a good traditional interior and Margaret whips up rooms that dreams are made of...seriously pretty, elegant and full of classic charm. I find it so refreshing when a young designer has such an elevated style and isn't afraid to create traditional looks that will stand the test of time. And this Atlanta-based designer is no exception.

Some of her work:

Gah...so lovely. Check out Margaret's website for more inspiration - and I have to comment that her website is fantastic. Clean, simple and you land right on her portfolio that is very easy to scroll through. Enjoy...

Virginia Traditional

Growing up in Richmond, Virginia I stepped inside many a traditionally-designed home and remember always loving the aesthetic. Orderly, pretty and formal.

I found a perfect example of how beautiful traditional design can be with designer Heidi Brooks' portfolio. Heidi is based in Charlottesville, Virginia (ie. Heaven) and her designs are Virginia Traditional at its best. Not sure if all of these homes are actually in Virginia (likely not), but they carry off this design style perfectly.

I think I'm most drawn to the traditional wood furniture...there is something to be said for a beautiful piece in its original (or restored) condition. Check out Heidi's portfolio here...

Katie Rosenfeld

I have been walking around with the above image as the background wallpaper of my phone since I saw it on Chinoiserie Chic. I am so enthralled with it that I need to look at it every two point five seconds (the obsessive frequency with which I check my phone).

New England-based Katie Rosenfeld is the mastermind behind this space and I am so thankful to Beth for introducing me to her STUNNING Chinoserie-influenced interiors. Katie Rosenfeld knows what she is doing.

If you would like to start your week completely motivated, inspired, and excited about life, then you need to take a moment and peruse Katie's portfolio.  Some of my favorites:

Kristen Buckingham

If you were stunned into silence by the Chinoiserie etagere from yesterday, then you'll definitely want to check out Kristen Buckingham's portfolio (purveyor of aforementioned stunner).

Here is but a mere taste of what this Cali-based designer whips up:

Isn't her work amazing?! She spans the (what I like to call) "sensory overload" look all the way to clean and neutral, seamlessly. Love, love looking at her portfolio and discovering another fab designer. She is right up our alley. Enjoy.

Sara Tuttle

The latest issue of High Gloss Magazine introduced me to DC-area designer Sara Tuttle. And I couldn't be more pleased.

To think Sara is whipping up these incredible, colorful creations in my own backyard is very exciting. Her interiors are fresh and full of personality...perfect for the young professionals that abound in our area.

I must meet Miss Tuttle.

Eileen Kathryn Boyd

Thanks to Lonny, I've met designer Eileen Kathryn Boyd. She's responsible for the amazing Christmas tree that was my Friday Crush.

EKB is based in New York and loves color. And I love her spaces.

Designer Eileen Kathryn Boyd

I'm always most enamored with designers that make color look sophisticated. They prove what I already know, and do it so well. EKB is certainly one of those designers.

I'll stop talking now. Pictures:

And of course I am not overlooking her careful use of Chinoiserie pieces throughout her work. EKB has one of the better websites in the design world worth a tour - check it out here.
