Cryx Army WIP Photo Bomb 1
Besides a recent post about Objective Markers, I haven't posted anything for my Cryx army in about 3 years. So I am just going to photo bomb my progress to date.

Cryx Objectives WIP
Here is a quick blurb of my Cryx objectives. Most of the bits used are from GW, but there are some bits from other companies, like Pagasus, Imex, and Perry Miniatures to name a few. Since there are no Warmachine bits, I am a little concerned with the legality of these pieces if I ever play in an official tournament,
From left to right: Stockpile, Fuel Cache, Bunker, Flag, Arcane Wonder, Flag, Armory.
These were fun and very satisfying to convert up. I am looking forward to finish painting them. Now I just need to try them out on the battlefield.

Warmachine Cryx Battlegroup WIP
A lost post from over a month ago.
Moving on from my color test, I have made progress on a Warmachine Cryx Battlegroup.
Still some detail and the base left to do, but I have mostly completed the rusted and corroded metal and bone elements of these figures. This isn't a out of the box battle group. I swapped one of the dog-like Deathripper bonejack for the crab-like Stalker bonejack.
The base is going to be tricky. building up layers of sequentially lighter tinted water effects with the intent to exaggerate the depth of the water. While I have done that with my swamp terrain, I am concerned about the smaller area and how the water effects with interact with the foliage and aquarium plants.
I am looking forward to getting a in game of Warmachine, so I better get cracking on finishing these up!

FLGS Used Score
I have a new FLGS!
Earlier this year, my FLGS of 30+ years closed its doors. A few weeks ago, my son went to Guardian Games for the first time. They have a huge space and Deathbot and I took our time taking it all in.
We both had a little bit of coin in our pockets and were looking for deals.
I searched through the Warmachine and Warhammer 40K used bins. I found two things of interest:
Warwitch Siren Cryx Solo for $6 (Retail $11.99) and a...
Tau Empire Sniper Drone Team (in metal) for $6 (Retail $41.25). Both were complete un-assembled models (minus packaging)
From the video game section, Deathbot scored:
"Gauntlet Seven Sorrows" for Xbox (the first) for $5 and "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" RPG for Game Boy Advance
All-in-all $21 spent between the two of us and a nice pile of booty taken home.

Warmachine Cryx Color Test 3
On this go around, I've added more corrosion and rust. I also added a dark wash and highlight to the bone. At this point, I think I am calling it done. All that is left is finishing the base.
I struggled getting the correct white balance from my camera outside. I finally gave up and took these pics with my phone at my workbench.

Warmachine Loot
Scoooooooore!
I just received a recent FleaBay purchase. These figures retail for $165 new and I got them for $40. I am quite stoke about the deal even though there is one figure I can't use. While this lot duplicates some of what I already have, the 2 minis back row and center are ones that I wanted to eventually get. They retail for $55--The entire lot was about 30% of that price!
Granted, some of the figures were sold already broken and a few more broke in transit. But nothing that isn't easy to fix.
I now have enough Cryx to field a 100 point force. Although I have no idea what I am doing, or if I have a cohesive force! :P

Warmachine Cryx Color Test 2
Now I am getting somewhere!
Just a few days ago, I posted my first attempt at my first Warmachine figure. That post was full of firsts as it was also my first time using GW's technical paints Ryza Rust and Nihilakh Oxide. Well I think I have sorted out how to use them. Now I have tried my hand at two more firsts! To get the effects seen below, I used for the first time GW's Typhus Corrosion and FW's Orange Rust powder.
Pictures taken with my phone.
This is exactly how I envisioned it in my head! Just a few more finishing touches before I fill in the 'swamp' with water effects.
I really like how the rust powder added a 3D layer. I inadvertently obliterated all of the 'corrosion' on the brass/copper parts with an orange ink wash that was too intense.
Strange angle, but it shows the inside of the base a little better.

Warmachine Cryx Color Test
My first painted Warmachine figure!
My first go 'round was not as successful as I had hoped. I tried the "new" GW technical paints Ryza Rust and Nihilakh Oxide. I need a little more practice with them to get the desired effect. Overall, I'm happy with the concept of black/bone with rusted-metal/corroded-copper.

Warmachine Cryx Starter Set WIP
300th post!!! I am entering into a "new" game!
About 4 years ago, Laertes bought me a Warmachine Cryx starter set. We had plans to give the game a whirl, but like many of our gaming plans, that never came to fruition.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago. Adeptus-B bought himself some Warmachine figures and successfully goaded me into launching into assembling (and painting?) my Cryx force.
| 2 Warjacks, a Warcaster, and a Solo |
Here is how far I got. There are only two more models to complete. Both are Bone-jacks (one identical to the figure on the right, the other a variant of the same).
The mini third from the left is one I picked up on my own about the same time as I received the starter set. I was unable to fit it on one of the resin bases, so I used a plain base with the intent of sculpting texture to match the rest.
Speaking of bases, I am using the "swamp" bases from Kerr & King that I discussed in this post.
As I write this, I have three-and-a-half days before I see Adeptus-B next. I commited to him to finish the last two models and get one test painted by then... wish me luck!
Take care.
