What an experience! Wow.
I have experienced many different driving days, track days, tours, rallies and training but this is something very different.
Take your own car and learn what it is designed to cope with, how the tyres and systems interact and put it to the test in a unique, safe and exciting environment.
Steve was my one-to-one excellent and knowledgeable instructor for a whole day and we didnt stop once for a "break" as I had too many questions! Nothing was too much trouble and he made sure I was comfortable with the different ways in which we tested me and my car to its limits, never will I underestimate the amazing technology that goes to into every modern car.
Thanks to the whole team for the best day.

We took a pre war car to CAT for driver training and help with set up. Colin was his usual patient and effective self. We now have a better understanding of how to get the best out of the car, and what it can (and cannot) do.

Race Level 1 Performance Course

I undertook the Race L1 Performance Course with CAT Driver Training on 27 Aug 2026 as part of the Mission Motorsport Team.

I have to state that it would be extremely difficult to criticise any aspects of my day. The pre-course admin was clear, efficient and all communication was extremely friendly and helpful.
Prior to actual driving, the theoretical explanations for each stage, were clear and communicated in a very easy to understand way. Once in the car, Colin's clear and calm tuition had me viewing fast driving in a different way. This resulted in a greater understanding of what was happening and significantly better car control, leading to faster and safer lap times.
I learned more in one day with Colin, than my last 35+ years of road driving with the odd track day.
The CAT DT Team looked after us both in and out of the car, in a manner that I can only describe as simply First Class.

A great learning experience to understand the limits of your own car (and your own). Steve was great at explaining the theory and then having me experience it in practice. I had to unlearn some traditional driving techniques and assumption in order to get the best out the car and this course really brings that home. If you really want to understand what your performance car can do I would highly recommend this course.

My second time at CAT Driver Training building on the knowledge gained previously. Once again all the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Steve's instruction was first class, clearly explaining technique and then encouraging you to practice until you could feel the difference it made to the balance of the car through the corner. I would encourage anyone interested in improving their cornering on road or track to get in touch with them.

I recently did the Track Level 1 Course with CAT Driver Training and could not rate the experience more highly. My instructor Steve was simply brilliant - this was my first time doing any sort of advanced driver training and he was super knowledgeable, had a great teaching style and gave me massive confidence during the day. Steve is an absolute master of his trade. The facilities were also super impressive. Anyone who does this course will leave as a different driver, with an actual understanding of how to drive performance cars. I will be coming back for Level 2.

As a trainer myself, but perhaps a lesser awareness of the technical and dynamics aspects behind the way a car behaves, the input was just right. I really appreciated the opportunity to build on the skills and understanding as the day progressed. Getting to the point where I could rotate my car under trail-braking and settling it on corner exit under power was a great end to the day.

I own a Porsche 981 Boxster and wanted a training course specific to mid engine cars and particularly the Boxster but this had proved difficult to find until a you tube channel I follow called "Project 981" made a series of 4 videos about a course with CAT Driver Training held at Millbrook.The 1st 2 videos featured Christian from 981 and Colin Hoad of CAT discussing in great depth the dynamics of the Boxster which was a revelation to me as at last someone knowledgeable was telling me what the Boxster was designed to do and why.2 more videos of actual driver training followed and I was hooked.
I booked a level 3 Performance driving course with Colin and was off to Millbrook a few weeks later!
On arrival Colin sat me down and asked me what I wanted to acheive from the day and then tailored the course to fit.Millbrook is a fantastic venue with so many facilities where you can be taught in a safe environment.130mph on a high speed bowl,Handling circuit,wet handling or Alpine course...all available!But these are just the facilities...the real magic comes when Colin uses the venue and his skills and knowledge as an instructor to bring the training day together.Colin teaches in a relaxed very down to earth manner and there is no pressure whatsoever and I could sense him using his experience and knowledge to guide me to achieve what I wanted from the day and a lot more!
So what did I take away from the Course?
1.A real understanding of the dynamics and systems in the Boxster.The mysteries of PASM,EBD,PTV,ABS,bump steer and mid engine dynamics became clear.
2.I got the chance to safely explore all the above and learn how to integrate all these features into my daily driving.
Of course the acid test of a course like this is would you do it again to go to the next level?To answer this I must mention the cost of this course.I travelled down fro West Yorkshire which entails a long drive and 2 overnight stays which added to the price of the course makes this a costly exercise but you will notice I did not say expensive...what I learnt on this course and the down to earth way Colin taught me was worth every penny and yes I fully intend to book the next level course.I hesitate to say this course is unique but given the combination of venue and hi level teaching I rather think it is!
To finish this review I can tell you that a few days after the course I narrowly avoided a very serious accident when a driver going way to fast on a country road lost control coming towards me and I was able to stay calm and use some of the techniques i had learnt to avoid him!

I can't recommend this course highly enough. It brought together everything I'd learned previously and gave me a much improved understanding of car control.

The staff are so approachable and keen to help. Steve is an excellent instructor—knowledgeable, patient, and able to explain even the more advanced techniques in a way that's easy to understand and apply. The training is challenging, but you're encouraged every step of the way, and the improvement in your driving is well worth the effort.

I was keen to learn to brake with my left foot. After the initial exercises, I used it confidently for the rest of the day. I also completely changed the way I think about braking—it's not just for slowing the car down, but for controlling the balance of the car through a corner.

If you're serious about improving your driving skills and becoming a smoother, more confident driver, this course is exceptional. I'll definitely be back for more training.

This course brought together many of the techniques explored previously and I think has resulted in a step change in my driving for road an track. It’s hard work but Steve explains everything very clearly to enable everything to be put into practice. After the initial brake test I didn’t once use my right foot for braking the whole day and after my revelation that the brake isn’t just used for slowing down I hit the pivots turns (nearly) every time.
All objectives were met and I had a fabulous day.

I learnt so much about the capabilities of my car and how to get the best out of it in a safe environment. The instructor was truly excellent and I would recommend CAT driver training to anyone wishing to improve their driving skills.

The activities were varied, challenging and ultimately very rewarding.
The venue is a very special place and I feel privileged to have sampled its unique features .

We had a great day with CAT at Millbrook. The whole team were friendly and professional. Steve’s instruction was exceptionally good and delivered in way which was easy to understand and implement on the track. Only problem was the day ended too quickly so we’ll be booking again. Would highly recommend investing in a day with the team at CAT.

First class coaching by first class instructors in an amazing and unique facility. Transformed my track driving in a single day. Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than “learning by doing” on track days (especially if you get it wrong). If you’re keen to drive racetracks quickly AND safely and have a lot more fun doing it then this is the best investment you can make. Highly recommended.
