Digimon Survive[edit]
Kaito used to live in the city with his younger sister Shinonome Miu. This changed shortly prior to the events of the game, where a pedophile stalker was both tailing Miu in real life and openly lying about dating her on the Internet. He eventually ran into the man and beat him to near death. The man was arrested and claimed that he and Miu were a couple, and the Shinonome sibling's parents believed in his lies, causing them much distress. As a result, He and Miu moved out of the city into the countryside right next to the Kemonogami shrine to prevent her from getting more harassment. This soured the relationship between the Shinonome siblings, as Miu was completely unaccustomed to rural life and believed that she was punished for something she did not do at all.
Their relationship became further estranged when Kaito became vindictively overprotective against Miu to prevent her from getting into more trouble, at one point violently beating some bullies who were picking on her.
Kaito became involved with the spiriting away incident of 2020 when Miu put a straw puppet in her place and ran out of home alone. When he found out, Kaito went to find her back and ended up in the Kemonogami Shrine alongside her where she was the first one to enter the tunnel to the other world and the rest followed suit. When they come to the other side of the tunnel, they find themselves trapped in a strange world resembling the current one, then were separated by feral Gottsumon. Kaito and Miu used to be together, but they were separated with each other when Kaito was doing recon. At the meantime, a Dracumon appeared and offered him help, which he agreed, Dracumon and Kaito became partners afterwards.
The party coincidentally reunites with Kaito in Part 3 when trying to find a radio tower to establish communications with the outside world. He was shouting at a "woman" asking her for Miu's whereabouts, but she refuses to tell. Kaito accused the woman of being a monster and introduces him to Dracumon, then further cited that right after Miu disappeared, she inexplicably had her bag, meaning that she must had done something to her. Kaito was also barely making any sense in the group's viewepoint and being violent and rude at the "woman", so they did not believe in him especially after being persuaded by her a couple of times.
In actuality, Kaito's assumptions were correct, as the "woman" is actually Archnemon, a high-ranking member of a Kemonogami cult that kidnaps and kills children, in disguise.
From this point on, Takuma can choose to go alongside Kaito or the "woman". Haru and Miyuki will automatically side with Kaito while the rest of the group will side with the "woman". If Takuma sides with Kaito, there will be another free exploration section where the player can pick up several items and challenge Free/Shadow Battle encounters. Eventually, Archnemon will appear to attack the group who followed her into the cable car, trapping them. If the player does not follow Kaito here, they will only have access to Kaito's Dracumon; otherwise, Agumon will be pre-deployed into the party.
The day after Tominaga Ryo's death (or not), Kaito forces Takuma to get the party to find Miu, and gives him only until noon to prepare and discuss it with everyone. He further adds that if Takuma does not decide by noon, he will go there on his own. When the party discusses their plans at breakfast, almost everyone agreed with Kaito's proposal to go out and save Miu aside of Shuuji, whose confrontational attitude caused him to almost break into a fight with Kaito, forcing Aoi and Takuma to meditate the conflict. Kaito figured out that Miu ran towards the Amusement Park area, as the Tentomon encountered yesterday saw her going towards a "shiny place" and Miu likes Amusement Parks so she will run towards one without much hesitation. When they reach the Amusement Park, they were confronted by some obstinate Child-level monsters who attempt to obstruct their path under the orders of their "queen", who can supposedly turn them into stone. Kaito became frustrated by the creatures and tries to get them into fighting him; Takuma can agree with him and fight Piyomon, Patamon and Palmon in a battle (in the Truthful Route, this fight is forced since it contains Ryo's Adult-level awakening).
Eventually, their search leads them to the Throne Room where they find Miu LARPing being the "evil queen" the monsters prior mentioned. Kaito asks Miu to leave the Amusement Park only for her to get angry and get rid of the party through activating a trapdoor that leads them to an underground prison. However, they came across Jijimon, who frees them and guides them out of the undergrowd passageway and tells them that he enabled Miu's LARP because he could had been used it as a chance to retire and that he figured out that she was harmless. They eventually make their way back to Miu and Kaito tries to pull her out of the Amusement Park, but she refuses telling him that the area is safe until members of Archnemon's cult appeared in the Amusement Park looking for the children. The party is then forced to escort Miu and go down to defeat Monzaemon and Garurumon, which they managed to respectively slay and drive away.
On the next day, Kayama Shuuji became increasingly unhinged following a nightmare. He began to not only abuse Lopmon, but also actively try to interject himself into conversations. Kaito got extremely annoyed at him and called for a stop, but he only stooped to insulting and screaming at him in return, which did not do any good to Shuuji's declining sanity. The arguments went so severe that Aoi and Takuma had to calm both of them down multiple times. When in the Waterway, all of the party's humans were separated with their Kemonogami partners by Archnemon to buy her time to torture Shuuji. Kaito managed to find Dracumon in his own and join Takuma and Miu to fight a hostile Seadramon.
In Part 6, the survivors were heavily shocked by Lopmon's transformation into a vicious, berserk monster, and begin to doubt their Kemonogami partners and wondering if they would end up like Lopmon. This results in Kaito and Minori's relationship with their partners being strained. While the Deep Woods events for the Perfect-levels of most Digimon Partners are available at the start of this chapter, his strained relationship with Dracumon means that his Deep Woods event is not immediately available, and his talk command is locked in the first half of Part 6. To re-unlock Kaito's talk command and unlock his Deep Woods event, Takuma must speak to him in the Ruined Apartment. Kaito will be arguing with Dracumon there only to be ambushed by a pair of Togemon, at which Dracumon calls it truce to help Kaito fight off the hostile monsters. Winning this fight allows Kaito to reconcile with Dracumon, re-enabling Kaito's talk command and if his affinity value is 30 or higher, Kaito's Deep Woods event is unlocked. Completing this Deep Woods event allows Dracumon to evolve into Vamdemon.
