Whoa. Rhage pissed and disappointed is not pretty. And me liking scary Z probably says interesting things about me.

What I'm mostly curious about is how Ward is going to take him from a man who cannot bear to be touched, at all, into a relationship. Crazy.
It is. But I loved his book. Although she did sap out in the ending. But his book was great. It was INTENSE.
As for how he gets to be in a relationship... Bela wore him down :)

Wore him down? Oh dear. I already want to smack her for not realizing he doesn't want to be manhandled. I'll reserve judgement though since she's stuck with freaky Mr. O.
Yeah well I did think she was pushing him a bit too far in the beginning. But in the end it worked out. And she wasn't TSTL and toughened up.
Lol! No, Shannon. I finished it. And wrote a review before sleeping. I just didn't update right away. That would've been hilarious though.
I knew she was going to get healed miraculously, but the reason they were allowed to stay together was silly. It would've made more sense had it just been a test from the Scribe Virgin to see if he'd really learned control. Her random benificence struck me as weird.

Well ... she has her reasons.
I had a feeling you wouldn't like this book as much as everyone was saying you would. I gave it 5 stars back when I read it 4 years ago - I'm not sure if I'd rate it the same now though. Especially after reading Butch's and V's books. I give the series 4 1/2 stars as a whole but there are some definite weak parts here and there. I'm not going to tell you to hold out until book 4 because I think you'll do what you want and I wouldn't hold out until book 4 for something I only moderately liked. I never really cared for Wrath and Rhage and I only sort of like Zsadist and Phury I HATE. But, man, Butch and V ... they're my favorite two guys.
I have to agree with you that the females in her novels are the weak links for the most part, but honestly once the story gets going in the later novels things just get so INTENSE that it's easier to forgive Ward for her faults. And there are some stronger females in the series later on so it's not all bad.
I think the third book is a turning point for the series and really sets the tone for the rest that follow. Third times the charm, maybe?
I hope you continue with these books but I'm not going to pressure you. Some of your friends on here are relentless! There's recommending something and then there's beating someone over the head! Lol.

Butch and V stand out for me, so I might be compelled to read those. I already know Marissa will drive me nuts, so she's a deterrent. I can't imagine being so sheltered.
Zsadist is interesting in theory. Sounds like he'll have a past similar to Acheron's from the DH. Complete with singing.
Too bad Ash's HEA was my least favorite of all those books.
I'll probably read the third eventually. Definitely not right away! And no worries--I have a very hard cranium. :)
I think romance is incredibly subjective. Of the PNR I've read, I can't see pushing any of them as recommendations. Not like how I'd wench UF titles.
We can all appreciate a well-imagined world, great characters, amazing magic systems. But as soon as romance is the main focus, it's all about personal kinks and preferences. For me, constantly doubting your worth just ain't sexy! Give me an arrogant bastard with a few secret vulnerabilities any day. Mircea, Eric, Dorian, Max, Curran...those are the men I'll swoon over.
Even the PNR heroes I've liked have had more understandable issues: being at wit's end trying to convince a normal girl she's "fated" to be his, with hilarious results; needing to overcome lack of trust due to some nasty backstabbing woman. There were two who had lack of worth issues, but stemming from shitty childhoods, so I could more readily accept it.
Plus, I like smart and sassy chicas who speak their minds (can't imagine why).

Well... Michelle dishes it out so she can take it too. And she knows we love her. :D
Michelle, I like how you put it that PNR is more subjective than UF. Indeed. And I for one hate weak heroines in UF but can usually stand them in PNR, given that they do toughen up eventually.
Come to think of it, I actually havn't read much PNR. I don't like many. So far it's only Ward and Cole. Ward because of the intensity of the world (and I love the brothers) and Cole because of her mix with humor. She doesn't take herself too seriously and it's appearant. I didn't get the same vibe from Gena Showalter for instance. So I have no intention of starting the LotU series.
I heard Nailini Singh is a mix of PNR with UF (more of the latter) and I'm going to start that series. I got my creditcard and I'm ordering away. I got 7 books for 40 euros! That's nothing!

It's weird - I barely remember the females. I think because once they've had their "book" they kind of disappear into the background, with a few exceptions. The main focus later on is the men and their fight with the lessers and the other overarching storylines. This is even more so when John Matthew gets a more prominent role. I also think this is why more people say the books get to be urban fantasy later on - the romance isn't so much the focus anymore.
"Zsadist is interesting in theory."
He's kind of like Asher without all the whining and ruffles.

I agree, that's kind of why I haven't been poking you to read these. But that's also why I know you'll like V - the bondage thing and all, lol.

This makes me even more sure that you'll HATE Phury's book. I hate him and his female likewise.

Lol, lumpy head and all, right?
"Michelle, I like how you put it that PNR is more subjective than UF. Indeed. And I for one hate weak heroines in UF but can usually stand them in PNR, given that they do toughen up eventually."
I think that's definitely the key - they can't be simpering fools forever. And I definitely give the female more leeway when she's weak and it's a romance.

I totally feel you on Cole! But her females are so TOUGH! Love the valkyries - especially nucking futs Nïx - and I also like the witch, and I know Michelle would like her too with her curves and red hair and feisty attitude. So far for me, Cole can do no wrong, I even liked the first full novel when most people had a problem with it. Her world building skills are CRAZY. And with all the different races (species?) she could go on writing forever. I can't wait to get to the demons, I have a feeling those guys will be fun!
Gena Showalter is terrible. I'll just leave it at that.
I also want to start Singh's series because so many people seem to like them. I just ordered the first one of the angel books - are you going to read those too?

You like me! You really like me!
I read three of Showalter's. Meh. Can't even remember if the sex was hot. I got some enjoyment out of it when an incredibly abrasive goddess came into play--she brought some humor and personality with her (most readers hated her).
Showalter didn't do much with her backstory either, but that changed slightly in book 3, so I may pick up 4. I wouldn't recommend them by any means.
I bought the first Singh book. (Mauve, Shannon!) Everyone's always talking about the complicated society in that world, so I may very well like it. I bought the Angel one too.
Women toughening up eventually does nada for me. Goes back to the whole "I'm only worthy because of my man" issue.
Congrats on the card!

I bought it too, but I got this version:
"Women toughening up eventually does nada for me. Goes back to the whole "I'm only worthy because of my man" issue."
I'm more forgiving of it, not that I necessarily enjoy that aspect of romance. I like the ones where the girl toughens up because of the situation, and not just the man.

That part I would like. IF the lessers actually made something of themselves. Do they? Because right now they are a joke of an enemy.

Hmn. This could be both good and bad. Do you LIKE Asher?

Giiiiiirrrllll, that's the whole reason I've wanted to keep reading! But I know they'll cop out on the kink. Sad.

He's been purposefully celibate. Of course I'll dislike him. And I will laugh my head off because I'm sure she won't have him be a One Minute Man on his first time and stamina would be so unrealistic.

Yeah, but I don't really care. I don't read them for the females.

Mostly, no. 90% of the time he's feeling sorry for himself and unworthy. But then again, I'm not really a fan of most of Anita's men anymore.

I think they do. A change in leadership helps them tremendously.

If you mean with Butch and V together? Yeah, that's frustrating. But ... V lets himself get tied up ... can you imagine if Dorian let Eugenie do that?

They are a lot of fun. At times hilarious but also dark and gory too. I honestly think they'd be something that I guy would enjoy too, with the action and humor mixed in with the romance.

Oddly enough, I like Asher. That's probably because we're not exposed to him all that much.

Well, thank GOODNESS!!

Dorian would still be in control even if he were tied up. He's wicked that way.

He isn't my least favorite but he's been absent from the books for so long that I've kind of lost interest.

Ah, but a bit of vulnerability is sexy too. I think I'd like to tie him up and make him squirm.
