Kate Baray writes page-turning urban fantasy with relatable characters.

When Kate's not tapping away at her keyboard or in deep contemplation of her next fanciful writing project, she's sweeping up hairy dust bunnies and watching British mysteries.

Kate is from Austin, Texas (where many of her stories take place) but has recently migrated north to Boise, Idaho, where soup season (her favorite time of year) lasts more than two weeks.

She's worked as an attorney, a dog trainer, and in various other positions, but writer is the hands-down winner. She's thankful readers keep reading, so she can keep writing!

Kate's series include Lost Library and Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. Under the pen name Cate Lawley, Kate (aka Cate!) writes Vegan Vamp

Hi Lindsey,

I'm so glad that you're enjoying the series! You should see Forgiveness (story 2) and Reveal (Max's story) on Barnes & Noble within the next week. Love and Moving will be available on B&N late in June.

If you're interested in downloading the Kindle app on your smartphone or computer, all of the shorts and Witch's Diary are currently available on Amazon. Also, new subscribers to my newsletter who sign up before the end of May receive an Amazon gifted copy of the shorts collection.

Keep an eye on my blog - I'll be posting chapters of my new spin-off there soon!

Thank you for your question, Lindsey, and for your encouraging words!

I'm a crazy dog lady (used to be a dog trainer, was a k9 handler for a few years) and I was worried about being too crazy dog lady, so I put barely anything in that first book. I should have made them full characters or removed them - but it was my first book and none of my editors made a fuss :) . Not that I blame them, all errors and omissions are certainly my own.

For a more fully fleshed out K9 character, my alternate pen (Cate Lawley) has a pet cozy series, Fairmont Finds Canine Cozy Mysteries. Fairmont, the canine main character of the book, is based on one of my German Shorthaired Pointers who has since passed. You even get his point of view in the book. Fair warning, the dedication of the first book is very sentimental. It still makes me cry when I read it, and a few readers have commented that it's made them teary.

Other pet characters that you might enjoy include Vegan Vamp Mysteries' Boone (he's a bloodhound based on 2 of my own hounds and joins the series in book 2), Night Shift Witch's Twinkles the cat (he gets his own story in book 4, Twinkles Takes a Holiday), and possibly Clarence in Death Retires (a bobcat possessed by a human who still has some feline tendencies.)

Thanks so much for your question, and apologies for the slow reply. For some reason I don't seem to get notifications for questions.(less)
