From New York Times bestselling author Molly McAdams comes a powerhouse romantic suspense that will have you questioning your morals and second guessing your view on love.

I live in a world few know exist. I’ve trained for this. I know what to say, what to do, and how to act. I’ve perfected the lethal calm required for this life.
Now it’s time to buy my first girl. But all it takes is one look at the brave girl who starts singing mid-auction for that calm to slip.
Briar Chapman is going to be the death of me, and I don’t care. I’ll take every day with her until that death comes, and I’ll welcome it when it does.

On the outside, Lucas Holt is what nightmares are made of. A man cloaked in darkness, with sin-filled eyes and an enticing grin. A devil so devastatingly beautiful and cruel that his very presence instills fear.
But beneath his terrifying, ever-calm exterior is an affectionate man haunted by a past that refuses to stay buried. And Lucas looks at me as though he’s finally found the only person who can make it all go away.
We’re a battle of the brightest day and the darkest night—and I want to lie in the wake of our war.

Molly grew up in California but now lives with her husband and daughter in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas. When she's not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach . . . which roughly translates to being a homebody and dishing out movie quotes with her hubby. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and loves curling up in a fluffy blanket during a thunderstorm . . . or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

'Blackbird' is the first book in Molly McAdams 'Redemption' series and is a lot darker than her previous works. I have enjoyed just about every book that I've read by Ms. McAdams and as a lover of dark romance, I was very excited to hear that she was trying her hand at writing "darker" romance. While not as dark as I was hoping for, 'Blackbird' proves to be a captivating read.

The story centers on Briar Chapman, a young lady that comes from a wealthy family. She is finishing up college and is engaged to Kyle Armstrong, the son of the Georgia governor. Much to her family's disappointment, she chooses to make her own way, waiting tables while going to school.

One day she picks up a shift for a coworker and her life is forever changed. Just outside of the restaurant, she is kidnapped. The next thing she knows, she's been sold at auction to a wealthy man.

Briar finds herself in a helpless situation. She is at the mercy of a man that says he owns her. He has no intention of ever letting her go and he refuses to entertain her pleas.

In time, Briar finds herself growing attached to her captor. Before long, she is questioning her own sanity and whether or not she really wants to return to her real life. Eventually, she has to face the fact that she has fallen in love with the man that she should hate.

While this story has many things in common with other captivity-themed romances, it also stands out from the rest in many ways. For starters, the man that purchased Briar, Lucas Holt, is not what he seems. The "world" that Lucas is a part of is also unlike any other that I've read about. The setting and circumstances were really quite unique. These differences were enough to make 'Blackbird' stand out from the rest.

There were quite a few twists and turns along the way. If you enjoy a bit of danger and action, this book delivers it in spades. In fact, 'Blackbird' was every bit as much of an organized crime romance as it was a captivity-themed romance.

My only gripe is that it wasn't dark enough for my tastes. There were quite a few scenes that were heading into some very dark territory, but then something would happen right at the last moment and Briar would be saved. Lucas couldn't ever really commit to do what he set out to do because he couldn't stand the thought of hurting his blackbird.

While I can appreciate the sentiment, it was kind of a letdown for me. I love disturbing, dark stories and the strong emotional response that they elicit. This book was like a big tease in that sense.

I'm of the mindset that if you want to go dark, then go dark. Don't skirt the edges of the forbidden territory while being too afraid to take that leap. This seems to be pretty common among authors that want to write "dark" content. I'm not sure if it is because they are afraid of the backlash that will come with delving into truly dark content, or what. However, for a fan of darker reads, this can be very frustrating.

Otherwise, this was a fantastic story. I would've liked it to be darker, but it was certainly much darker than anything that I've read by this author before. Even though it wasn't as depraved as I would have liked, it was still a highly enjoyable read for me.

”…she sang when she was scared.”

description

Molly McAdams delivers a dark standalone novel and it's very well done. The story seems like your standard fall in love with your captor tale until she hits you with several very clever twists!

description

Briar Rose Chapman is happily engaged to Kyle Armstrong, the Governor of Georgia’s son. She helps a coworker out by taking her shift at work and finds herself taken and later sold to the highest bidder, a man named Lucas Holt.

description

Lucas has a mentor named William who is insistent on helping Lucas maintain control over Briar, his first female acquisition. With William breathing down Lucas’ neck he struggles to rule her with a firm hand and pretty much breaks all the rules when it comes to his blackbird. He appears to be truly slacking in handling his first owned woman of his household in this society.

”It’s obvious he’s still waiting for you, and like you said, you still love him. Go. Run, Briar. I promise not to chase you.”

The story seemed to be your standard plot of the taken victim falling for her captor. We experience Briar slowly falling for Lucas and vice versa but the author throws some great action and twists in that completely worked and made for a good dark read.

”I couldn’t differentiate between the lies to find the truth.”

5 huge stars for Blackbird. With her words, the author draws you into the crazy and dangerous world of human trafficking. Briar Rose Chapman is kidnapped; she wakes up and finds herself auctioned off to be a sex slave. Her buyer, Lucas Holt, is dark, mysterious and stunningly handsome.

Lucas shrouds his true identity - one that he finds difficult to conceal when he wants so much to surrender his hearty and soul to the irresistible Briar. As the weeks pass, Briar finds herself drawn to him. They form a bond over time and they come to rely on each other to keep their sanity in a place that’s absolutely horrifying! As the plot thickens, Briar finds out all about the underworld that Lucas has been keeping from her.

This is not a story about consensual bdsm. Neither is it about “actual” slavery. I've never read anything like it. It’s a raw, dark, heart-wrenching, totally captivating love story. The characters were great, I loved the light and darkness aspect to it. I absolutely adored Lucas - his strength, his moments of vulnerability, his infinite capacity to give love. His story with Briar - his journey of discovery, about love and passion - was such a wonderful reading. The strength and selflessness that the protagonists drew from their love made me believe that they were meant to be together.

This is worth picking up and reading, I could go on about this book for ages but I think you definitely have to read it to be able to understand what I am talking about.

In short:
Hero 5/5 | Heroine 5/5 | Plot (Point, Originality) 5/5 | Writing Style 4/5 | Steam 3/5 | Romance 4/5 | Angst-Suspense 5/5 | Darkness 3/5 | Humor 0/5 | Secondary Characters 4/5 | Drama-Conflict 4/5 | Mystery 4/5 | Twists 5/5 | Pacing Steady | Action 5/5

The last book I read was a complete bummer, therefore you have to understand that I was very hungry for a good dark romance with all the dark elements. And then came along this book.

And oh. my. god.

I fucking loved this book!

This was the first book I've read by McAdams, and bloody hell am I a fan! I knew! I kind of knew right from the beginning of the prologue that I was either going to end up loving the shit out of it, or freaking hating it.. because experience. And god did I want to love it.

After surviving a traumatic past and horrible parents, Briar Chapman had the near perfect life- a life she adored and a fiance she was in love with. But just when she thinks that she's gotten everything she's ever wanted, it all gets taken away from her- brutally.

Kidnapped and drugged, Briar is sold at an auction (where very powerful and very dangerous men buy slaves for their very particular lifestyle) to a ruthless man. To her Devil.

Meet Lucas Holt- a millionaire, a slave trader and Briar's Devil.

“I had been wrong. He wasn't a demon. A demon wasn't nearly as evil or dark as this man.”

He puts the "E" in enigma. That man tho! Despite everything he did, I freaking loved him.

My heart was thumping so hard during the first 20% of the book! I think that should tell you what a fantastic start it had? Si?

Lucas had been groomed for a certain sort of lifestyle for the past 4 years by his mentor William- a lifestyle where women were collected like in a harem and kept. Where he was supposed to be their owner- their master. A lifestyle with it's own set of rules and regulations and punishments when those rules were broken.

One of the most important rules were that you were not allowed to care about your girls.

Except, every rule goes out of the window when he sees Briar.

She was the first girl, and you were not supposed to choose the first girl in the queue. She was the costliest of them all, and he broke every rule right from the moment he saw her.

“But more when I'd already broken so many rules was like playing Russian roulette by myself.”

Even after being sold to the man she deemed her Devil, Briar never stopped fighting. And every time Lucas tried to teach her a lesson, both became the casualty. Her hate for him was so strong that it was almost all-consuming. I don't think I would be any different if I were in her place.

Until one day, her Devil became her savior.

Lucas cared for Briar, and it was evident to all. It was also a big no-no. Because when you cared about someone, they became a liability, a weapon against you. A weapon that had to be eliminated before you got in too deep.

At least that what his mentor William thought.

I absolutely loved the entire course of the story, and how Briar's feelings for Lucas progresses and morphs from hatred to love. And I wouldn't dare say that Lucas didn't earn every single one of them. And the one thing I loved the most was his honor- despite her technically being his, he never took things too far. And he protected her from everything that came at her- his present and his past.

If you think that the devil doesn't have ghosts, then think again.

Lucas Holt was haunted by his past- a past that is as dangerous as it is complicated. I wouldn't say that I totally did not see the revelation coming, because I kind of had an inkling about what was probably going on, but the way they come out, it's brilliant!

The writing was bloody fantastic. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. And that ending- perfect. It was absolutely perfect.

I honestly can't explain the plot to you, because it would destroy the entire reading experience for you. But really, this is one dark romance, that I definitely recommend. If you are looking for a tortured anti-hero, a badass heroine, a lot of angst then this is the book for you.

“I’m your blackbird. These wings are broken without you near.”

****4.5 Stars****

This was my first time reading a "Molly McAdams" book...and I will say that I was pleasantly surprised, and am now questioning why I waited so long! I have heard that this was her first try at a darker romance story, and I think she did a wonderful job of it! Some readers may feel that it wasn't dark enough; but my mood must have been right where it needed to be for this book...as I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why so many others haven't given this one a go?? Not sure?? Maybe I am way out in left field and will be the only one who enjoyed it; but truly....I don't care!!! I was entertained...and lately, that isn't the easiest task to keep me dying to read!!!

I can't really say much about this story, as it is one of those suspense ones where you should go in blindly. For the most part of this story, I was kept intrigued, as well as questioning what the heck was going on exactly!!! I didn't know whether I wanted to like or hate Lucas...and at times Briar would come across as a weak heroine, and then she would all of a sudden surprise me! There was a point in the beginning where I thought I knew what was going on...then I figured I was wrong...then I was thinking I was right again! I love that in my suspense reads!!!
I had a ton of "real life" responsibilities that I ended up ignoring, just so I could continue reading!! To me, that makes a satisfying read!!!

All in all, I usually don't like to recommend books, as I am always scared that people won't like it, and then they will think I was a nut for enjoying it myself...LOL Yes, I am a bit of a worrier that way...but I did like this, and I will definitely be checking out the second book when it comes out in July!! ( the second book has another couple in it..) I am happy to report, this was an extremely satisfying read for me!! ;-D

I am very torn giving this book rating. I am hoovering between 3 and 4 stars. This is my first read by Miss McAdams. When I picked up the audiobook, I thought this book is goong to be dark and twisted. Only at the beginning...

Then it starts to dwendle from there. It tirns to be more romance in the middle then pick up the dark and twisted toward the end. I do like the angst, the drama, the forbidden romance between Lucas and Briar. Their chemistry does sizzle.

I want more of that dark and twisted that was promised at the beginning. I wish the author can inject it more into the plot.

Overall I do enjoy this book very much. More than I expect.

Molly McAdams is one of those authors that I will always want to read books from. She has battered my heart quite a bit in the past few years, okay that is a lie and I am not the only one who still hasn't gotten over reading Taking Chances :( What I'm trying to say is I go into her books with the happy knowledge that I am going to enjoy what I am about to read. Therefore, when I began reading Blackbird I was like WTF, why is Molly taking me to such a dark place?

Yes, Molly McAdams can write dark novels and was I hooked, so much so that I could not stop reading (even when I was at work). Okay, so here is what happens.....

Briar lives in Atlanta with her fiance Kyle. Their wedding is only weeks away when Briar is snatched behind the alley way of the restaurant she works at and she is gone without a trace. This is how she ends up being auctioned to the highest bidder and purchased by Lucas Holt.

One moment she was at work putting out the trash and now she is in another city, possibly another country, with a controlling, demanding man, no way of contacting her loves ones and she is locked in a room, naked. Probably not what she quite envisioned when she agreed to cover her work colleagues shift the other morning.

One thing begins to become very clear, Lucas has no intention of ever letting her go and if she is ever going to have a chance to escape she is going to have to play along with what he expects of her. Her eyes are truly opened to a completely different world and lifestyle when she learns that her situation is not uncommon in the circles that Lucas moves in.

The longer she is in Lucas' home she is surprised to find herself slowly accepting her new life. Instead of fighting it she is making the best of what feels like an impossible situation. She calls Lucas the devil man with the devil eyes but a different side of him is also being revealed to her, a more human side that she was not expecting.

Briar is beginning to think and feel things that she knows she shouldn't be and she is feeling confused and conflicted about this. The guilt is overwhelming, there is no way she should, could ever want this man that took her life away from her. Why is her body betraying her then? Her body and mind wants Lucas and her heart seems to be begging for an invitation too.

"Because he wasn’t a lover and his touch shouldn’t steal my breath. But it did."

Everything that Lucas had planned seems to be going tits up, Briar is not what he expected from his first auction and despite all the training he had leading up to this, she is a complete contradiction to what he had prepared for. She consumes his every thought and he is breaking every rule he laid out for himself.

And the on top of all of this there is another story playing out in the background so it is fair to say that Lucas has a pretty stressful life. There are people from his past and present that have beef with him and he is constantly trying to second guess what is going on and what is happening between him and Briar is just making things even more intense.

This was a really unexpectedly exciting, page turning read for me. Molly has shown a completely different side to her writing that I willingly lapped up page by page.

"Blackbird fly, blackbird fly. Into the light of the dark black night."

I have nothing but all good praises for Molly McAdams. Blackbird is a proof of how talented she is as an author. How brilliant she is for amazingly delivered a story so unforgettable, a story that will really leave a mark to all the readers. Because Blackbird? It's Molly McAdams at her finest. This is her masterpiece!
“Because he is the darkness
He is the devil….
…and I love him”

I admit, reading this book at first gave me conflicting emotions. I actually stopped reading it and waited days because I do not know if I read the right book. That to say because it was really new to me, I'm used to the angst Molly gave us, I'm used to that heart wrenching scenes she's known for but I was never used to read a book from her that was just dark and so twisted. When I finally put on my big girl panties, I am amazed! I love the story so much I hardly put it down.

First few pages in and I literally cringe at the thought, but slap me several times, but this book just opened another version of me. The twisted-pervert side that had me questioning my morality. Because who will not? The story screams DARK AND TWISTED but I was devouring it like it was my last meal. I was flipping through the pages like a mad woman looking for her next prey. I was puzzling the pieces together, inhaling and breathing the suspense. I was at the edge reading the book but my knickers were soaking for the twisted desire I have with Lucas and Briar's interaction. Damn! Tell me who aren't affected by Lucas and Briar? Tell me who aren't rooting for them even when it wasn't the right idea? Tell me who aren't as giddy as I am swooning for this broken man and loving him despite his darkness? None. Because everything is worth falling for.Everything is just perfectly imperfect the way it is. And I am loving it to bits. I can never forget this story. In fact, this made my love to the author in another new level.

Seriously, when I thought about it, I was definitely thinking it was all sorts of wrong. But reading it in Molly's perfectly written and flawless portrayal and delivery, I realized I cannot think of that. Blackbird and her devil is just perfect together. Their chemistry is sinful but at the same time rightful in all aspects. The sizzling scenes had me. That emotions in the book portrayed even got me. I was so consumed by them. The complicated relationship they had me even questioning if there will be even a HEA with the leads. When I thought I had it figured out, I was wrong, there are pieces yet to unfold and there are twists and turns I never saw coming. Whatever it is, it's for you to fins out. This book is better read blind. You can as much feel the emotions when you do not have any idea what's bound to happen. I'll tell you, you'll appreciate it more.

To Molly McAdams, kudos! Blackbird just became one of my top reads this year. As I read through the pages, I can feel the powerful words and lines you gave to it. It was addicting, sinful but out-rightly beautiful...so beautiful in the darkest, suspenseful manner. Ahhh..this is romance in the newest level.

The devil is not as black as he is painted.

Molly McAdams painted her latest book in black with the deliciously dark romance, Blackbird. I went into this battle of feels blindly, this book delivering darkness like raindrops from the sky. No pep talk or words of wisdom would have helped me walk through the pits of hell where the devil reigned, where I could only pray for a sliver of sunshine. All I could do was dive in and silently beg for mercy on my emotions, hoping they would stay at bay.

After the Prologue, I had to wonder: “What are you doing to me, Molly McAdams?!?”

Blackbird is a dark and devastatingly beautiful book of love and loss that will render you broken and breathless, bringing you to your knees! Painted in the blackest of blacks, Blackbird is a love story submerged in splendor and sorrow that sings to the soul. Nothing could have prepared me for the SHATTERING OF MY SOUL that Blackbird rendered…NOTHING. Oh did my soul shatter and sing!!!

Sing, as my soul did to the bittersweet Beetles tune of Blackbird that haunted my head while reading:

Blackbird singing in the dead of night.
Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
All your life.
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly. Into the light of the dark black night.

The Prologue struck me hard, barreling down on my heart like a thousand winds, terrifying yet thrilling me. My emotions engulfed me, rendering me breathless, powerless to the feels that flooded me like a storm. This battle was one of feels; a fight I would not win. A fight I did not want to win. I knew this little Blackbird would break me, and break me it did. Blackbird BROKE ME IN THE BEST WAY!!!

I was forced into a world I’d been blind to and came face to face with the devil. A man cloaked in darkness—a man who would set me free. A man hidden in a world I vowed to destroy with him by my side.

Gorgeous with dark hair and dark eyes, a tall and muscular body adorned in ink, Lucas Holt was a devil in a dark world, sucked into it not by choice but by circumstance.

Briar Chapman was a blonde and green-eyed beauty who looked both alluring and angelic.

Dark collided with light as Briar was taken, kidnapped and sold to the devil, Lucas, at an auction.

“The devil will never own me.”

“We’ll see.”

Blackbird, so devastatingly dark yet breathtakingly beautiful, OWNED EVERY OUNCE OF ME!!!

She had called me the devil, and I felt like it after tonight.

This devil and dark knight set my heart on fire. I bled for this destroyed devil. Lucas, so broken yet beautiful, GUTTED ME!!! I had to catch my tears as I willed them not to fall. Tears that teased the dam of waterworks waiting to burst from the words that seized my soul, extracting every emotion. Beckoning me. Binding me. Breaking me. Becoming me.

..His touch shouldn’t steal my breath. But it did.

Blackbird stole my breath. I was BREATHLESS!!! My breathing was bated. My pulse pounded. My heart leapt out of my chest.

The chemistry between these two strangers is undeniable…fire-hot...a slow burn. Passion permeates from a mere look. Lucas and Briar have a shared bond that neither can grasp nor get.

“You’re beautiful, Briar.”

My body was on fire while my heart bled. This devil BURNED ME, melting me into molten lava!!! This devil DEMOLISHED ME!!! Lucas made me SMOLDER and SWOON!!! I LOVED this dark avenger, this complex man!!! Intense and intoxicating, Lucas is a force of darkness and Briar is the light. The devil and the angel, and angel’s whose sunlight he can’t help but absorb.

“You can hate me all you want. I’ll always hate myself more.”

The heart I tried to freeze to stay strong in this story shattered so many times. I thought I was already broken, but I BROKE SOME MORE.

“This was dancing with the devil and attempting to come out unscathed.”

I did not leave this story unscathed. I was SHREDDED TO PIECES!!! Blackbird hijacked my heart and stole my soul like a thief in the night! The spellbinding and spine-tingling Blackbird tore my heart open that lay bleeding, shook my soul that screamed for mercy, grabbed my gut that was unglued, and hit me so hard that my emotions bled long after the story was over. My tears bled all over my face, bleeding for words that penetrated through me like knives, slicing open my soul that was bared to this book.

This book that bared its soul to me is both a top February and 2017 read. Dark romance fits Molly McAdams like a glove, so PERFECT! UTTER BOOK BLISS!!! Molly McAdams writes from the heart and you can tell her heart is poured into every beautiful and brilliant word. Her heartfelt writing hits my heart hard like a hurricane EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. EVERY WORD MATTERS. Meaningful. Mesmerizing. Magnificent.

Oh did Blackbird with its simple title MEAN THE WORLD! This is a tale of ALL OF THE FEELS: heart-stopping love, heartbreak, healing, and happiness. I still feel this love story flowing through me!!! I'm still BARE, BROKEN, and BREATHLESS!!! I'm still GASPING FOR AIR with TEARS etched in my eyes from this stunning and shattering story.

This little bird chirped to my heart and chipped away at my soul. My emotions are still entangled around this Blackbird. Blackbird WRECKED ME in the worst way yet BROKE ME in the best way. Blackbird made me fly to the darkest dark and to the lightest light. I’m still flying, UNEQUIVOCALLY IN LOVE, as Blackbird OWNS ME FOR LIFE.

★★★★★★ devastatingly beautiful stars

You know what happens when you think you have it all and nothing can be more perfect than in that moment? It gets taken away. Your sense of security, your hopes and dreams all gone within the blink of an eye because you were in a bubble of being untouchable. You see the funny thing is, as much as we all think we have this perfect world and our lives are good, were not exempt from being destroyed. We’re, not exempt from evil lurking around and holding us in its grip. WE’RE. NOT. UNTOUCHABLE.

“We’re a battle of the brightest day and the darkest night- and I want to lie in the wake of our war.”

Briar is a simple girl but she had the very best of everything. Engaged to a man who worships the ground she walks on, and having a simple job has her feeling pretty good about her life. That all changes in the blink of an eye when she’s kidnapped from her job and taken to an unknown location. Scared and alone, Briar must now face a completely different life where darkness will now become her new light. But can she survive this type of darkness? Especially when he comes in the form of tall and deadly?

Lucas Holt has been many things in his past life but loving hasn’t been one of them. When Briar walks into his life, that part of him that he thought was dead has now been resuscitated and he has no intention of ever letting her go. But will Briar make it easy for him?

“Because he wasn’t a lover and his touch shouldn’t steal my breath. But it did.”
I really enjoyed this story and I loved the fact that it had just the right amount of suspense keep my interest and not making it overdone. Briar and Lucas had an extremely complicated and I was extremely nervous but excited at the same time. Yes I’m sick in the head but you guys already knew that. This author kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting with bated breaths because I didn’t know what was going to happen and I freakin LOVED that.

If you’re looking for a suspenseful read with just the right amount of seines, this one is definitely for you guys.

I’m not quite sure how it happened so fast. One word can describe this novel for me. Turmoil. Complete Turmoil. The. Entire. Time. One minute my heart was in my throat the next it was in my stomach. I didn’t know if I wanted it to stop beating or continue. Crazy.
I’ve read quite a few dark books. And while this is a dark romance that is surrounded by a big mystery about her captor it gripped me from the beginning. My friends know I am a HUGE sucker for dark books. I like it to hurt. I like it to make me cringe and feel unworthy and unhopeful.
There were a few things that could have made it even darker and more twisted, but in the end, It all came full circle, and it was as it should be after I thought it over. This author did the unexpected (because let’s face it, she writes sweet stories with no darkness at all.) Well, you can forget about all the sweet because she did a fantastic job going dark.
If she can continue to develop this skill of dark writing, I believe we might have ourselves a winner my dark romance junkies.
P.S. I am not even going to give you a hint of a spoiler just know It’s something all of my dark romance book friends like! It’s just too good to spoil. Enjoy!

4.5 – 5 dark loving stars.

“Our forever started that first night you decided to stay.”

To be quite honest, I don’t really know how to go about reviewing this book. I haven’t read a book that left me this speechless in a while and the fact that it was romance book written by Molly McAdams has me even more shook.

Briar Chapman had a seemingly perfect life until one day it was all taken from her. She is kidnapped and sold to Lucas Holt, a man who could only be described as the Devil. Briar pleads with him to let her go back home and after weeks with no success, she starts to accept her new reality. But when Briar starts to fall for the man who won’t let her go, both Briar and Luke will find themselves playing a dangerous game. One that could cost both of them their lives.

Who knew Molly McAdams had it in her to write a dark romance because I sure as hell didn’t see this coming! I’ve read a few of McAdams previous works and I’m so used to her fluffy and sweet contemporaries romances that this book has completely shocked me. I still can’t believe the things that went down in this book. Blackbird is a dark, suspenseful, page-turning story that left me at the edge of my seat. I literally had chills and this book made my skin crawl and that’s because it deals with the topic of human/sex trafficking. It is not easy to read this book and there were a lot of things that didn’t sit right with me, especially when it came to the Briar and Luke and how their relationship and “romance” developed. Sorry not sorry, but under the circumstances I just can’t 100% get on board with the romance.

BUT HERE’S WHERE THE INTERNAL CONFLICT COMES INTO PLAY. I’m going to try to explain myself without giving away spoilers and hopefully this ends up making sense. The thing is Blackbird is a book I’ve been waiting about two years for. TWO YEARS! I honestly never thought McAdams was going to write this story and then she went and pulled it off and the fact that word hasn’t gotten out about the twist at the end is kind of surprising. McAdams kept a tight lid on this little secret and if you’ve read her books like I have (one series in particular, but I’m not going to say which one it is) then you will probably understand why I’m so shocked.

BASICALLY ME WATCHING ALL THIS SHIT GO DOWN:
description

All I have to say is I love Lucas Holt, and no I don’t condone the shit he did, but again if you’ve read McAdams other books you’ll understand why I appreciate the fact that she wrote this story in the first place.

So this review is a bit all over the place and I’m just going to wrap things up by saying if you do choose to read this book, just know the topic is not easy to swallow and it’s a bit on the problematic side. I’m also so shook and so speechless that I can’t bring myself to rate this book. I’m excited for the next book in this series because I think I know who the sequel is going to be about and if my theories end up being right, then I’ve waited two years for that story as well. I honestly didn’t think she had it in her to write dark romance, but McAdams did it. SHE DID THE DAMN THING!

*Le doy 2.75 estrellas*

Argumento:
Briar Chapman va a matarme, y no me importa.

I don't usually read dark books and have never read a Molly McAdams book so I was so excited to give this one a try. Raw, gritty, and exciting are words that come to mind when I think of this book. I was shocked over and over with the OMG moments and emotional in the moments that the words took my breath away. Full review to come. I look forward to more in this series.

I can honestly say that Blackbird was one of the best books I have read in a really long time. It had the amazing feels of a "dark" novel but it was so much more than that. It had an underlying mystery, scorching chemistry, a strong heroine and an amazing broody and INTENSE (anti)hero. It was just so phenomenal. I loved everything about this book!!!

The novel starts off with a bang as Briar Chapman is being transported to a slave trafficking auction after being kidnapped. Through brief vignettes we see flashbacks of days earlier, explaining how and why she was kidnapped and then move to present time where she meets the mysterious man, Lucas Holt, who purchases her. While living in his home we see the conflicted emotions Briar has about wanting to return home and her new and growing feelings for Lucas. But who was Lucas really? What was his endgame and how will it play out for Briar?

This was truly an amazingly well written book where through dual perspective we got to see what each character felt. I loved that their confusion and pain really came off the pages!! I also absolutely loved the play of the word Blackbird in this novel and the significance of Briar singing. It was just so wonderfully done! I can not wait for more books in the Redemption series from Ms. McAdams!! Bravo! 4.5 Amazing Stars- Ratula

Not That Dark-But Good

For a non-dark writer/reader, this may seem like a darker book, however for a reader of the darker genre, M.S. Willis, CJ Roberts, Pepper Winters and Mary E. Palmerin, this is a tip toe into the dark side. However, I did like the story line and the curve balls Molly McAdams threw at her readers. This review may be vague to protect the storyline.

"He was my darkness. He was my own personal demon sent from hell."

And I liked him instantly. The minute one of these hardened men show a sliver of remorse for what they are doing or about to do, when there's still a conscience present, I'm all in. It makes the struggle real. As much as he has to, Lucas isn't the devil and doesn't want to be with this particular girl after he heard her sing. He was attracted to Briar's bravery, something he now has to strip from her.

Briar is in the wrong place at the wrong time and her life will never be the same. The "hardship" she knows is nothing like the others that surround her. While she wants nothing more than to go home, she sees that Lucas really isn't all he's pretending to be. There is something more about this dark soul. Something she is determined to find out. Briar grew on me because she wasn't a tough girl, yet pretended well when Lucas was around. She held her own when she needed to.

Blackbird is well written with a unique storyline which kept me quickly turning the pages. Molly McAdams did a great job with these characters, instantly drawing me to them. While it isn't the darkest book I've read, it's darker than others I have read from her and it worked. She gives her readers romance, action and sexy times when all is said and done. This is the first book in the Redemption series and you bet I'll be reading the next one.

THIS BOOK!!!

I finished this book days ago and I still can't get it out of my head. And I still have no clue how to review it. I don't think my words will be enough.

We all know what to expect from a Molly McAdams read. Ugly cries, broken hearts, anger and then for the most part she will piece us back together word by beautiful word. But then she goes and gives us this! What the H*LL just happened?!?!?!

BLACKBIRD is so different then anything she has written thus far. And I think it is some of her best work yet!! (And trust me I know because I have read all her books) Molly still gives us the ugly cries, broken hearts and so much anger. And she will still piece you back together word by beautiful word.

This book has some dark elements and you will think WTH!! But trust me there is so much more to this story then you think. I couldn't put it down I was up until all hours into the night and early morning reading because I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. You will literally feel all the feels in this book from the hairs standing on end to the that punch to the gut in the pit of your stomach. GAH!!! I'm going to stop here before I can't stop and start giving things away. This is a MUST read!!!!

I knew there was a dark side in you Molly McAdams! Thank you for finally letting it out and giving us Briar and Lucas's story. *bows at feet*

It is scary that this does happen in our world and that it's not just in books. Be active with your children no matter what age. Know where they are, who their with and what they're doing. Open that communication and I swear they will hear you.

I finished this book a few days ago and have been struggling to write a review ever since. We all know what to expect from a Molly McAdams book: ugly cry, angst, anger, and broken hearts. Molly really stepped out of her normal genre with this one. It was different than any of her other ones which I all loved. This one was dark and suspenseful and angsty and made me want to scream at times. I don't normally read dark books but this one just may have been changing me mind about the whole dark romance genre. I jumped at the chance to read this, even before I even looked at the blurb.

I loved Briar and Lucas and I loved them together although I had a love-hate relationship with Lucas at first. And I felt for them every step of the way in this book. These characters will absolutely gut you and break your heart and have you screaming and crying and every emotion in between. Their story was definitely an emotional roller coaster of a ride but I enjoyed every single second of them and never wanted it to end! There was twist after twist and you never see any of them coming till they smack you right up side the head and you are left reeling.

This book was definitely an emotional experience in itself and I think this book will stay with me for awhile. All I can say is go out and one-click this book, what are you waiting for?! One click this bad boy and I promise you won't regret it! Molly McAdams has one heck of a brilliant talent and I can't wait till her next book!

4 STaRs

I haven't read anything by this author in a very long time and the book I did read I only read half of it so I was a little worried about going into this one. Turns out, I didn't have that much to worry about, I enjoyed this one very much. The storyline isn't one that I read often, I don't really like them if I'm being honest. The whole "Stockholm Syndrome" storyline doesn't work for me unless it's Beauty and the Beast ;) But this story was so much more than that. I didn't really care for the romance nor did I really feel the love connection between these characters but I did like the story. I had a few problems with some things but that's just me nitpicking.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. I so badly wanted to know how it was all going to play out. It was way better than that first book I half read by this author all those years ago. I won't feel so apprehensive about picking up her next.

i like the cover but going off this cover alone with no blurb it being coupled with this authors name is what would make me pick it up and not just the cover alone.

Wow not the usual read from this author yet i was still sucked into her world as soon as i read "fight me " i was hooked.
for the storyline of this book though i didn't hate Lucas from the get go which is weird but the way he was with her did not warrant my hate and i kept thinking at the back of my mind all can't be what it seems why do i not ate this dude he's evil so that was weird. Briar wasn't a whinger which is a plus she accepted it and got on with it and i rally liked that about her, lots of push and pull , suspense and passion hopeless romantics who love a dark twist will like this.

a bit about the book for when i look back.
Briar is kidnapped by some strangers in a case of mistaken identity. she gets brought to an auction and there is something about her which turns most the men off except one. in walks Lucas this HOT alpha male is not what he seems and then yet again changes into one of his many alter ego's ?? maybe ? anyhow Brair not only has to deal with the devil but the Devils who trained him too.

Would Lucas The Devil be my book boyfriend ? He'll yes he is my book husband Mine #Claimed
