When danger threatens the ranch, Frantor can no longer remain in hiding. Can he finally break the chains of the past?
Each book in the Seven Brides series features a different couple and may be read as a standalone, but the books do link together. This sweet and steamy series is intended for mature readers.
Reclusive alien Frantor has been my most anticipated book in the series. It exceeded my expectations. I loved Frantor and Florie as a pairing and enjoyed their close proximity slow burn romance. If I could give the book 10 stars, I would!
I have been wanting to read Frantor's book for so long, and I am happy to say it did not disappoint!
Frantor is the reclusive alien brother in this brother-in-arms family. He spends most of his time alone because he is worried that he will scare others due to his prosthetics and scars. But he is in for a shock when one of his brothers decides to kidnap a human bride and leave her on his doorstep. During a snowstorm! Her name is Florie and she is the human town chef of sorts. She is super passionate about cooking and her restaurant, so she is quite upset when she realizes she will be stuck in this mill for a while due to a snowstorm. Frantor does everything to make sure Florie never sees his face because his heart would break if she found him scary. But as they spend more time together, Florie wishes Frantor would trust her enough to show her his true self. And the two of them obviously fall in love!!
I am just a SUCKER for romances where the characters don't know what the other looks like. I guess that's why I love watching Love is Blind haha! But I loved both of these characters, and it was just a joy being about to read about them falling in love with each other 🥹💗
REP: chronic pain (due to his many injuries, Frantor experiences a lot of chronic pain)
TROPES: alien romance, caretaking scene (heroine massages hero when he's in pain), damaged hero, foodie romance, forced proximity, if you like this, read this (Claiming His Virgin), kindle unlimited, recluse, disability rep, scarred character, snowstorm, sweet hero
Just as out of all the brothers I was most curious about Frantor's story, so it is that out of all the brothers, Frantor pulled on my heartstrings the most!
It's clearly stated over and over again in the series how each of the brothers are scarred by their past experiences in one way or another, but it's Frantor whose scars are visible on the outside as well. However, this makes his scars inside the worst as well in many ways since, unlike the other brothers, he has a reminder of his experiences practically every time he looks in the mirror.
Er...metaphorically speaking, of course. In reality, he ensures that there are no mirrors around in his home.
Instead, our gentle alien mechanic hides away in the old mill and is terrified of anyone seeing his body and face and reacting with either pity or disgust. So...this makes it extremely difficult for Florrie, the bride that Benjar stole for him, to get close to him at all, but that's okay because she's patient and up for the challenge.
Seeing these two get together was as cute a progress as it was an impatient one, in that any time progress is made, Frantor loses heart and backs off, leaving Florrie alone to figure out what went wrong and how she can get close to him once more. It's still a very genuine way of falling in love though, and I only wish that we could have had more of their sweet moments once Frantor finally, finally accepted his love and the fact that she accepts and loves him in return. It reminded me a bit of The Accidental Mail Order Bride, because that's a story in which the hero also goes out of his way to hide himself from the heroine, because of his perceived "ugliness". In fact, I may just read that book again, based on the remembrance that this story inspired in me.
Anyway, all in all, this was yet another sweet, 5-star read, in what is becoming a series that I just know I'll read through again and again in the future! Otherwise, now I only have Gilmat's story left, and will have to wait exactly 4 days for it to come out before I can explore the last of the brothers' stories--which is when I hope the pass will clear up and they'll confront the townspeople and whatnot.
Tick tick goes the clock, and soon I'll have my definitive ranking of the brothers' stories in terms of which one(s) I liked best and in what order.
I've been looking forward to this one since the first book it's going to be adorable I just know it
Update:
Ok this one was really sweet and it held up to my hopes for it. Its by FAR my favorite and I even wouldn't mind getting myself a paperback copy to add to my shelf.
This one was full of healing and just made me happy.
I'd love a full length version for further depth and character development, but that's only cause I liked this novella so much.
This is one of the better ones in a series that, for me, has been super mediocre.
I’m rating it 3 stars even though it does two obnoxious things:
It’s another in this series in which the couple gets vaguely sexy right after I find that so off-putting. All my words for this have been said in reviews for others in this series. But just to beat that dead horse- fuuuuuck that. Nipple teasing while It’s a no from me, dawg.
This FMC also climaxes upon penetration by a penis. I’m not sure what Author gets up to, and good for her, but a whole series of women who can come like being turned on like a light switch is toooo much suspension of disbelief. I’d be giving side-eyes to one; but SIX? My sister in Christ, this is some low-key “breasted boobily” shit.
Relative to the length of the book, FMC was patient and understanding about MMC's struggles and boundaries, and found ways to help them get closer without triggering these things. A whole star for how that was handled.
I'm gonna read the seventh when it comes out, because we're this far down the rabbit hole, but goddamn, I'm sick of "fluttering channels."
i've been waiting for this one since reading about frantor in the first book😭 this was better than my expectations!!! i love a scarred and emotional hero and a heroine who loves him just the way he is😭💞😭💞😭💞
Benjar kidnaps a bride for Frantor and leaves her at Frantor’s home.
Florie is a divorced woman who owns her own diner, one night she’s taken and the next thing she knows she is in a home that is very dark.
Frantor comes home and realizes that a human woman is in his home.
I thought this was cute, but it also was very heartbreaking, because Frantor is an amputee and scarred alien. He took the brunt of an explosion during the war, so it has made him believe that he’s a monster and no one would come to love him.
Florie’s previous marriage was a lonely one, and he also wasn’t a good husband, so she didn’t think she’d ever be with another man again. Florie quickly warms up to Frantor and starts to cook him meals and cookies. Frantor took awhile to warm up and trust Florie, because of him being disfigured and with prosthetics, but she wears him down and they fall in love.
Cute entry and the beauty and the beast is always a trope i enjoy. This isn’t delving into anything that deeply and I don’t know if I’ll remember much about it in about a week but cute.
It's scarred, lonely Frantor's turn to woo his bride and...let's just say his alien brothers took him by surprise when they dropped Florie off at his place and the guy wasn't at all prepared for her. I mean mentally and emotionally. Frantor has hangups about his scars and cybernetic parts and he has to come to terms with them as much as the idea that a human woman would want him.
Fortunately for Frantor, Florie isn't at all put off by either his scars or his mechanical bits. She likes his kindness (even in the face of an unexpected guest) and she isn't about to let his seeming standoffishness push her aside. Which means she's soon convinced Frantor to spend time with her and the more time he spends, the more he sees how nicely they fit.
Sure, it takes time for the big guy to warm up and he wears a mask (at first) to hide his more obvious scars, but these two get where they need to be. Eventually. And Frantor finally shows himself to the other brides, which thrills Nelly since she has a soft spot for the alien who saved her earlier on.
A brother who sees himself as a monster, a woman who absolutely doesn't, a snowstorm, a few good meals with good company, and some sexy times. Because YES! *thumbs up*
Frantor (H) sees how happy his friends are with their newly found mates and struggles with his acute loneliness that he’ll never have a mate due to his scarred visage. He’s shocked to find that one of his brothers, following the Nelly’s 'words of wisdom' kidnaps a bride on his behalf and deposits her in his home. Florie (h) finds herself trapped in the home of an alien who won’t let her see him except in disguise in shadow of darkness. But as Florie and Frantor get to know one another, he starts to hope that she might come to care for him despite his appearance. Hot and steamy action for Frantor and Florie. Sweet alien romance. Love how this series is a play on the classic Stanley Donen movie, as well as Phantom – two of my favorite musicals. Read the stories in series order - things just make more sense, character relationships build, and the overarching story grows.
This was by far my absolute favorite book in this series so far. Frantor being broken and not thinking he could be loved hurt my heart! I literally felt so many emotions for him and absolutely adore him. He deserves the world!! And I found Florie was the perfect match for him! She loved him endlessly and I just can’t with these two!!! Love love love! Only one more left let’s go!! 4.75/5 stars!
Aw, Frantor found love. I love that for him. And I kind of dug the whole mask/blindfold deal they had going on. Very phantom of the opera-esque.
You know what threw it off for me a little? Him calling her "sweetheart." It's weird, I know, but it didn't feel like the right term of endearment. Sometimes terms of endearments just aren't necessary, ya know?
Anyhoo. Only one brother left. Gilmat, the green, viney hulk ❤️
I like that these books are light and easy, but I also liked that this particular one involved a character with a painful past and major issues with his injuries. Florie and Frantor are a sweet couple and I enjoyed this one a lot.
This was an OK sci-fi alien romance, but I had an issue with the fact that Florie was abducted. I get that Frantor didn't abduct her, but still... It gets 3 stars from me.
This story had some steam, but also some sweet moments as Frantor and Florie got to know each other. Frantor was such a tortured soul, and it was sweet that Florie understood him. She realized that he was ashamed of his scars and disfigurement, so she was willing to let him slowly reveal himself to her. Since she was so careful with that, he soon fell deeply in love with her.
I liked Frantor, and thought his history was extremely sad. He had lost his entire family in the war, and that war also left him with terrible injuries and scars. He was sure that no one would ever be able to love a male as disfigured as he was. Florie proved he was wrong about that.
I liked Florie, too, and liked that she wasn't bothered by Frantor's scars at all. She hated the pain he must have gone through, and the pain they still caused him -- but she didn't mind how they made him look.
Overall, I liked this book. I did wish it had been a bit longer, to allow for more character development. I would have liked more backstory on both Frantor and Florie.
Other reviewers have noted that they dislike the covers on this book series, since they look like comic books. I'm not really a fan either -- but I suspect that was so that the alien men on the covers could look like they were described in the book. It would have been difficult, and possibly quite costly, to use actual male models and make them look like the aliens. I prefer comic book style covers to those where the models don't look like the descriptions of the characters in the books.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Frantor and Florie's story is such an emotionally stirring read in this sixth book of the seven alien brothers series and I absolutely adored it! Expertly written and deeply moving I felt this wounded warriors fears, pain and loneliness as told through the pages of this entertaining read. Florie is one of the women kidnapped from the town of Wainwright and left in Frantor’s workroom for him by his brother Benjar. Knowing nothing of this Frantor is surprised when he finds Florie, and the stage is set for the wonderful narrative that follows. As the reader learned in the previous books Frantor is the brother who was horribly disfigured in the war and refuses to show himself to others even more so now that his brothers have mates living on the ranch. Unable to get Florie to the ranch because of a snowstorm raging outside he keeps his form covered from her sight when interacting with her and Florie doesn’t force the issue. The attraction between the two soon becomes obvious as the days pass and I loved how Florie slowly began to work her way into Frantor’s heart as he did hers. You know what they say… the way to a man’s (alien male in this case) heart is through his stomach and Florie is an excellent cook! But seriously folks Florie was such a good woman and I appreciated how she approached the situation she found herself in and the forthright understanding she displayed towards Frantor who feared if she saw his visage, she’d run screaming into the night. The perfect couple, a perfect story and now my favorite of the bunch, and YES it does end on a very wonderful (that brought a happy tear to my eye) HEA.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the one I was looking most forward to reading because Frantor seemed the most in need of love, acceptance and support. Wounded during the war for his planet, his family is gone and all he has is his brothers in arms and his Mill on the ranch. He knows no one will ever accept him with all of his scars and missing parts but he longs deeply for it just the same as Benjar easy plan to find brides unfolds he finds himself gifted with a beautiful females he is sure will run in terror from him. Florie cooks and owns her own dinner one hi it's she was walking home from the dance and another she was asking up in a strange and unusual place. When she first hears Frantor speak to her she thinks he was in on the plan, but being with home even for o my a few days makes her realize that Frantor doesn't expect anyone to ever love of care for him. It twists her up inside and she makes it her mission to cook for him a th coax him out of hiding. As each day passes they grow closer and closer together. Frantor falls in love and just hopes Florie will return his feelings. What he gets is so much more. Passion, someone who sees him and not his scars. Florie thinks that maybe her kidnapping was the best thing that could have happened too her. The port in a storm, a safe haven healing love that is what they both find. It's a fantastic story filled with wonderful warm loving characters who are believable, and we'll drawn out loved it highly recommend💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖💖💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖💖💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥👟👟
So after reading both Endark's and now Frantor's stories, I'm experiencing book hangover now.
I have actually loved all the characters, but I have to admit that due to the above characters history, I couldn't wait to see how their brides would either soothe the beast or heal the heart.
Ms. Phillips never fails in fleshing out all the characters involved. I couldn't wait for Frantor and Florie because Frantor was much more broken from what the war had taken from him beyond skin deep. Florie proved perfect in that her past experiences had given her the heart and compassion to look beyond the superficial and draw out the true heart of the man as she calmed his fears.
I must admit that besides the book hangover from both of these books, the other problem I've had lately is wanting to read the last book in the series. It always saddens me when a series is coming to an end, which means the author has done his or her job in making me fall in love with the world and characters they have shared with me. It seems silly, really, as I know once I begin this next book, Ms. Phillips will have me so invested in the final couple to be introduced that I will feel quite foolish for my previous angst.
Each book has only added to the heightened anticipation to the next book, so here goes nothing as thankfully I have the final book already in my TBR.
I highly recommend reading everything from this author as she has never disappointed me with her creative imagination and talent for pleasantly surprising me. Enjoy.
I loved, loved Frantor and Florie’s alien-human, forced proximity, snowed in romance. This was my favorite book n the series. The book had a wonderful mix of sweet, spice, real life issues, and big feels. Frantor is an alien who was badly wounded in the war and his body is now deformed. At the end of the war, he and his six brothers in arms purchased a sprawling ranch and settled on the planet of Cresca. Florie is divorced human woman who lives in the nearby town and runs the diner. Two of Frantor’s brothers misconstrue a human story to mean they should steal human brides and decide to get a bride for Frantor too. Florie’s last memory is being approached by a large alien before she woke up in Frantor’s workshop/home. Despite Florie being drugged and kidnapped, this is not a dubcon or noncon situation. Frantor and Florie’s relationship develops organically without forced intimacy as they ride out a blizzard together and have conversations without Frantor revealing himself. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit uncomfortable in their skin because they don’t feel like they fit in or are worthy, like Frantor. So I love when they finally see their truth and they get swoon worthy HEAs. The story includes sweet moments, steamy scenes, alien physiology and cultures, loyal friends, painful pasts, fated mates, coincidences, danger, and laughs. I am looking forward to reading the final brother’s story.4.5 stars.
At last, we get to know the most elusive of the seven brothers, Frantor! He was worth the wait! Horribly disfigured during the war for Vizal, he has retreated from everyone he loves on the farm he and his brothers retired to on Cresca. Luckily for him, Benjar picked the perfect bride to kidnap and leave in his workshop. As you read about Frantor, your heart can’t help but break for him. He so desperately misses human contact and companionship, but his fear of seeing shock and disgust on other’s faces when they see his scars keeps him locked away in his mill. Florie is the perfect mate for him, as she is mature enough to know what she wants, and smart enough to figure out how to get it! She makes a mean cookie, which doesn’t hurt! Lol! Never was a snowstorm so welcome! I loved every minute of this story, and this couple! I love the snippets we see of the other brothers’ relationships, too! Everyone gets that happily ever after! All we have left of the brothers is Gilmat and his new bride, Julie. I am really looking forward to reading about this green-thumbed giant of a brother next. I am sorry to see this series come to an end, but I have loved every sweet, and very steamy, moment! Such a wonderful series!
