This one was no exception.
Casey has two identities; one that was guilty of murder and then found to be innocent later on. Her new identity is also now accused of murder. How on earth does the same woman come across multiple murders, and be arrested for being the murderer in each case?
I love the flashbacks between the two timelines and Casey/Rachel. Poor girl has been stuck with a lot of bad luck being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However; do we really know if she has bad luck or is she the cause of the murders? I'm looking forward to another book Claire!...more

I was SOO PUMPED for this book. Y'all have no idea how much I wanted this book. When I saw it pop up on NetGalley for review, I was so ready! I was denied (BOOO) so I had to wait a while. BOTM had it available and I jumped on that opportunity really quick.
When I got it in the mail, I was reading another book and had to wait to finish that one before I read this. I thought it was worth the wait. Uggghhh....
The Whisper Man was amazing. Loved it all, every single sentence. The Shadows on the other hand.... I just liked it. There was only one part that just made my jaw drop. I am sure people that have read this might agree with me.
Four children, all outcasts in school, became "friends" with Charlie as their ring leader. The boys were focused on learning about lucid dreaming and a thing called incubation. Charlie wanted to have the other three boys to learn how to lucid dream so well to where they could take certain matters into their own hands and deal with certain...problems in their lives. Years later, the boys have split, after Charlie making two of the boys join in on murder when they were kids.
Paul Adams, the one boy who got away, came back to the murder site in their hometown. The other boys were dealing with the consequences of their childhood while Charlie roamed free. Charlie had disappeared. There are more murders going on, leading for the public to believe that Charlie is back. Perfect timing for Paul returning home...
Read the book. It was okay but just not like The Whisper Man. So, don't get too excited like I did because you will probable be disappointed sadly....more

This book really pulls you in starting from the beginning! Gotta suck to have been ditched two weeks before your wedding! You can't even get in touch of your fiance to talk about why he left you and where he even was. There is no information until Amy needs to call the police to report her fiance, Matt, missing. Too bad there is another woman looking for Matt too. They have been a couple for a while now. You think it couldn't get any worse; not getting married to your love because he left you and went missing. Now he also has a mistress as well! Oh how much I wanted to sympathize with Amy! I couldn't imagine!!! Until the author starts to reveal little innocent Amy's past. The scandals, the lies, the deaths. This is a middle of the road book. I didn't love it, didn't hate it. Just there and existed to me. I feel like it fell a tad flat somewhere and it lost its magical mojo. Entertaining however I must say. I'll keep looking out for more books by you Ms. Howells. I am intrigued.

Beth is a therapist to couples who are struggling. It means so much to her that she helps others out so that they may have a good marriage in the end. It doesn't matter that her own marriage is struggling, she needs to push on. Her life goes a tad topsy turvy when her husband decides to leave her, after having an affair. Beth needs to remain strong for herself, her clients, and her son.
Danielle is a strong business woman who devotes her life to her career and her volunteer work. Her marriage is struggling because her husband is too devoted to his career. She decides to go see Beth to try and save her marriage and to save herself. Danielle has had a traumatic event that happened to her which caused permanent scars to her face and neck. That is when the problems in her marriage supposedly starts.
This book, like I said, yowza loads of shocks. If you want a drama filled book to suck you out of your own life for a while, read on!...more

That was an opening line wasn't it? Dangg that book was fun and creeeepyyy. Not like Stephen King creepy but eek...I don't ever want this to happen to me. Molly Clarke was driving home to check up on her children, eldest in charge; however, the blind spot of the driveway got her which led to her nine year old daughter death. Molly blames herself as well as Nicole, the eldest child who was watching her. Molly now lives with it every day, going from three children down to two. Her husband is probably having an affair, Nicole was expelled and is drinking all the time now, and her youngest ignores her when she comes to visit. On her way home from her youngest's school, her vehicle runs out of gas during a hurricane and she is now stranded on the side of the road. Fast-forward, Molly seems to have disappeared. Everyone thinks she ran away from her depressing life to start a new one. Her credit cards were used a couple of days after her sudden disappearance so there wasn't any reason to think that anything had happened to her. It honestly seems like no one cares, except for Nicole. Nicole, even though she has resentment for her mother for "killing" her sister, thinks that something is going on where her mother has disappeared. She travels out to where her mom supposedly had left her and her family; but, when she gets there, something is going on that doesn't sit well.
So... Like I said I loved it. I would have HATED to be in the position that anyone was in during this book. I have never read anything from Wendy Walker before this one. This book has turned me into looking into some more works by her. Bravo!

Emily, Scott, and Nina. Woah are these some crazy characters.
Emily was just laid off at her temp job, about to lose her apartment in London, and an aspiring actress who was just dropped as a client. Let's face it, life sucked for her at the time. Everything changes when Scott, her boss at her temp job came to her rescue. Weird right?
Scott is a very successful business man at an ever growing company. He has multiple homes, a beautiful wife, and a young daughter. He knew Emily was a receptionist at his company, but she was always late and agreed with her direct supervisor to let her go. He wanted her to be let go so that he could "save" her for another job that he had in mind. A housekeeper, if you will, at his beautiful estate in France where is wife and child lives.
Things are looking up for Emily, a brand new job with amazing pay with perks. When she arrives in France, she warms up to Nina and Aurelia, the daughter, and blossoms a great friendship with them. Aurelia is a mute child with a lot of medical issues, so it is important that she is overly protected by everyone. She is also a mute with mental outbreaks and go into physical episodes. It is a lot to take on. Nina homeschools her and takes care of her tremendously. She is super over protective, along with dealing with some slight mental issues herself.
Scott comes to visit the family and Emily finally after not being able to visit for weeks due to being so busy at work. That is when things get a little strange. There are a lot of mental outbursts from almost everyone, a lot of protectiveness, and some romancing.
I'll give this a 3.5 stars/5 due to it being predictable. I'll round up to 4 for the character dynamics and how two of them come together in the end being in two different areas. ...more

I got this on a whim from the BOTM back in...May? I think. I had other books I put in front of this one and I really wish I hadn't. Believe me, I am glad that I finally did read it.
First off, there are a lot of characters and Kimberly McCreight goes into extreme detail of every single character in such a great way that is so fluid and great. You start to know so much about them that you believe you know who they are in person. It is normally a very good good to have of course. In this book, it was very much needed. Trust me.
There are so many twists and turns. You think you know the murderer but then you turn the page and BAM. You are completely second guessing yourself. I couldn't guess it. That takes a lot for me not to guess who it is. Not tootin my own horn or anything!
Alright, a summary: Lizzie is working her tail off at a very elite law firm. She works day in and day out. She is bombarded with work but she also doesn't want to go home to her alcoholic husband who just recently drove his vehicle into a building! (Big law suit, and Lizzie's job has no idea). A phone call comes in to Lizzie from a very hardcore jail that is in the area. It is Zach, Lizzie's friend from long ago back when they were in college together. Zach is being held in jail for assaulting a police officer at a murder scene. His wife's murder to be exact. Lizzie takes Zach on as a client (after a lot of fighting with him about it). This takes her into Park Slope, a very rich neighborhood. Park Slope brings in marital dysfunction from multiple couples, a cyber bully attack on the parents of the ritsy school, and a very popular party with a lot of swinging involved within the parents.
LOVED this book, like I said. I am definitely going to look into more books by this author. I hope they are as good as this one; I will keep a look out for future books by her as well. Do yourself a favor, grab a copy. ...more

The "Dr." comes into the coffee shop, gives you the apartment you've been dreaming about for an extreme fraction of the cost? There was romance, sex (loads), mystery, murders, psychological games. It had it all. This book shall forever be a recommendation to friends if they are okay with taking mini pauses and realize it is fake and to try not to have a wretched feeling in your stomach at times.
This book was about three people mainly. Lowen, Jeremy, and Verity (love the names of the female characters. Very different).
Lowen is not having a good spell in life right now; her mother just died so Lowen has kept herself in her apartment for weeks not being able to leave because of depression. When she finally does leave, she sees someone die right in front of her by being crushed by a car. Not a great way to leave the house finally. A man comes to her rescue by helping her recover from her shock and clean off the blood that has spattered all over her. This man is Jeremy.
Jeremy was on his way to a meeting to interview a writer that could carry on his wife's writing legacy. Just so happens, the writer was Lowen. Well, things work out and Lowen moves in. Jeremy reveals to her that he had twin daughters, whom have both passed on. He also had a son, living. His wife was in the home as well, paralyzed and almost brain dead; hence why she needed someone to carry on writing for her. His wife is Verity.
Verity made a killing off of the books she had wrote. Life was all so grand. She had three children and a loving husband. Then it started to not matter anymore because her two children have died, her youngest was in counseling, and her husband's soul was perished losing two children. He wasn't supposed to become more sad when the second child died. He was already numb. Verity's plan didn't work to get her husband all to herself again...there needs to be another way.

Avery has lost her parents in a car accident, her grandmother to old age, and now her best friend committed suicide. However, after uncovering the secrets of the town, was it suicide? There is a lot of information missing, so when some comes back its welcoming. BUT it is the wrong information that comes back to her. The information is tied to the dead body she found when she was a child. Is her amnesia interlocked with the dead body? I will be giving this book a 3/5 stars. Not like it wasn't good at all. I really enjoyed it. However, I cannot believe all of this is possible. My head also hurts from all of this twists and turns in this book.
This book is about Sadie and her husband Will having to move to Maine into Will's sisters home. She killed herself and gave the home and her only daughter to Will. Needing a fresh start because of some crazy instances that happened back in Chicago, their previous home. Imogen, the "new daughter", doesn't take too kindly to everything going on considering she was the one that found her mother hanging from the noose in the attic of their home. A murder occurs on their little island of Maine, which shakes Sadie up so much that her life turns upside down, even more so than before. Nothing begins to make any sense and then Sadie starts to receive death threats. The past starts to surface and now Sadie does not what is truth and what is a lie. The murder starts to point towards her direction like she is the murderer. But she can't be...can she?

I will give this book 4.5/5. I loved this book! There were so many twists and turns that I did not see coming whatsoever.
We start off having Gemma and Danny, beautiful newlyweds, starting a new life together in a new town away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything was going grand until suddenly Danny doesn't come home from work. This is when the book starts, right from the get go. Nothing in Gemma's world makes sense. Her husband is missing, but is he really? No one in the new town has ever seen Danny. Was he even there? The cops are searching everywhere, but there are some other murders that are linking up to the possibility of Gemma being the main suspect; especially once the blood bath was found in their old apartment.
So normally I can guess pretty much everything that is going to happen in a book. This book though, there were twists and turns that I NEVER would have guessed. I applaud! The only thing was the end of the book was so far fetched. It wasn't bad per se, just out there. I cannot wait to read other novels from the author. ...more

This book had so much anxiety packed into this that I felt my own skin crawl a couple of times. Being a mother, I felt my old thoughts coming back to me from having post-partum and I do hope the author wanted the reader to feel the sadness and loneliness that is associated with this, even if you never had it.
This book goes back and forth from two narratives; one from Nicole, the now dead mother, that is set in the past and the other narrative is from Morgan, the woman whom Nicole entrusted on taking care of her child. Now get this, they were total strangers. Were they really though?
The reason on why this book is only getting 4/5 stars is because it fell a tad flat at the end when the story was wrapping up. It seemed a tad too rushed.
I’d love to read more from the author nonetheless and I will definitely recommend this....more

I am only giving B. A. Paris one star for this book?? I am so upset with myself, her, publishers. What happened?!
Skip past my drama, Liv is turning 40 years old, she is so excited to have a huge marvelous party for it. She never did have a wedding because her parents turned her away for getting pregnant out of wedlock. Fast forward 20 some years, still no communication with her parents with two children. Everyone close to Livia is making this party extremely special for her, especially her husband. However, the day of the party, some unspeakable things happen and there are secrets hidden everywhere. Will they come unfolded?
BASICALLY This book is of a husband and wife that really need to communicate no matter if it upsets the other one or not. Why would you hide something from your husband for six weeks that could have prevented the unspeakable? I hated this book. It was all ridiculous and so bleh. I say that with such a heavy heart because I love B. A. Paris books and was so looking forward to this one....more

Okay, so just to the book. What a freaky, weird, mind-blowingness. So, it is really confusing at first. Pay attention because there are four different POVs during different timelines. I love different POVs in books by the way, normally I can track it down really easily, this one wasn't the case. So, I liked the "challenge" it came with.
One point-of-view was Lucy, a 25 year old woman who had a very calm life who worked in sales. She was adopted as a baby and knows hardly anything of her past. She receives a letter from a solicitor and turns out she inherits a mansion in a great neighborhood. When she visits the house the first time, it sounds like someone is there watching her.
Another point-of-view was Libby. Libby has two children and a dog and they are homeless in France. Libby gets a text message, "The baby is 25". Libby needs to figure out a way to get back to England, and fast; even if that means to meet with a man from her past who hurt her in more ways than possible.
The last point-of-view was Henry. Finally we learn a lot more of the past regarding the mansion; including the families that lived there. The families that have merged together into an undesirable cult. Henry also reveals much of the inner details of the story being told by everyone else. There were many different views of the truth, which view is true however?
There were great amount of detail and great amount of different stories wrapped up into this one book. The ending was absolutely spine chilling. Read it to find out!

The beginning of the book when it was focused on the husband, I loved it! It was mysterious and something was eerie feeling about the writing. The second part was the wife. She really did annoy me because she left everything behind, including her husband and all memories of their dead child. Maybe I am not the type of woman that would do all of this, but I never had a child of mine die and I didn't have a friend who was manipulating me for years.
I didn't get the twist until very late in the book. I mean like two pages before the twist was revealed. So props to the author for doing a good job on that!
