This book paints a dark, gritty, and highly atmospheric backdrop that feels both hauntingly real and fantastical. As I delved into its pages, I could vividly imagine our characters navigating the treacherous streets of the city, each step heavy with tension and purpose.
One of the standout elements of this book is the author's gift for conjuring striking imagery. Shannon's descriptive prowess pulled me deep into the story, allowing me to immerse myself fully in this intricately woven world. It's a testament to her storytelling that I found myself not only rooting for our main character but also contemplating how terribly I would fare in this unforgiving realm. Moments of defiance from the protagonist, which sometimes made me want to shout advice at her, served to solidify her character and bring her personality vividly to life. This complexity adds depth to her portrayal and keeps the reader engaged throughout.
I found our main character to be a likable and authentic presence in the story. Shannon skillfully maintains her character's integrity, ensuring she remains true to her original design. This consistency enhances the reader's connection with her and invests us deeply in her journey.
As for the plot, "The Bone Season" weaves a compelling narrative of resistance, rebellion, and survival against all odds. The story unfolds at a steady pace, gradually revealing the intricacies of a world rife with secrets and danger. Without revealing too much, it's a tale that explores the power of found family, as bonds form and strengthen in the crucible of adversity.
I read the 10th-anniversary edition and the author states has had significant edits and some alterations to the original storyline. Although I read an ARC of the anniversary edition, I was surprised by how rough the first few chapters still felt. They made it hard to, at first, connect to the story and made me question how the rest of the writing of the book would hold up.
In conclusion, "The Bone Season" is a gripping and evocative fantasy novel that transports readers to a world unlike any other. With its dark allure and complex characters, it's a journey well worth taking. I eagerly anticipate continuing this thrilling series to uncover the many secrets it holds.

One of my new favorite books! An absolute delight, and I could not read it fast enough!
"Give Me a Sign" by Anna Sortino is a delightful YA debut that took me on a heartwarming journey back to the beloved nostalgia of summer camp. Lilah's experience of feeling caught in the middle—neither fully identifying as Deaf nor meeting society's expectations of being hearing—resonated deeply with the reader. Sortino skillfully intertwines the challenges faced by the Deaf community into Lilah's personal quest for self-discovery, letting go, and finding her voice.
The characters in "Give Me a Sign" shine with vibrant personalities that make them feel like lifelong friends. Each one brings a unique charm to the story, and I found myself easily connecting with their journeys. Sortino has crafted such distinct voices that I could likely identify the speaker of a random quote out of context—a testament to the author's ability to breathe life into her characters.
Nostalgia hits hard when reminiscing about summer camp experiences. While my camp didn't boast hot British lifeguards like Lilah's, we had our own laughs and shared conversations. The lifeguard scenes in the book brought a smile to my face, reminding me of the genuine and hilarious moments that occur in those cherished summer camp memories.
"Give Me a Sign" beautifully captures the spirit of summer camp, fostering a sense of community, growth, and the excitement of unexpected connections. It is a celebration of finding oneself amidst a backdrop of friendship, romance, and the power of embracing one's unique identity. Anna Sortino's debut novel is a delightful and engaging read that will leave you with a warm, nostalgic glow long after you've turned the last page.

This audiobook was outstanding, the narration added to the character and aided in how you felt about every situation the main character was in. I loved that the author essentially wrote a vampire novel without ever using the word vampire. What sets this book apart is the author's ingenious approach of crafting a vampire tale without ever uttering the word "vampire." In most vampire novels, the vampires take center stage, but Kerin masterfully shifts our focus to Mia, unfolding her story through two captivating timelines—one when she's a mere 10-year-old and the other in her present-day life. What makes this book really stand out is the multilayered look at dependency and the layered aspects to family life. Overall, there wasn't anything major that I would have changed and found the book to tie up the loose ends in a manor that made sense to the entire story.

Bookshops & Bonedust is a mesmerizing love letter to the enchantment of bookshops, the profound impact of stories, and the serendipitous friendships that shape our lives. Travis Baldree has woven a tapestry of characters so vivid and captivating that you can't help but fall in love with each and every one of them. What amazed me most was the care and attention given to even the side characters, their backstories crafted with depth and thoughtfulness. It's a testament to Baldree's skill in creating a world that feels lived-in and brimming with authentic personalities.
In the beginning, I admit to feeling a tinge of apprehension as Viv, the protagonist, seemed different from the Viv I knew in Legends and Lattes. But then it struck me: this is a different Viv, an old chapter of her life. The contrast in her demeanor, the quicker reactions, and the subtle emotional shifts added a layer of intrigue. As the story unfolded, I found myself completely immersed in Viv's journey of self-discovery, witnessing her transformation and eagerly anticipating the path that leads her back to the person we all adored in Legends and Lattes.
What truly touched my heart in Bookshops & Bonedust was the poignant awareness of Viv's impending departure from Murk. It was a delicate dance between joy and sadness, leaving us with a bittersweet ache. Yet, Baldree masterfully guides Viv to embrace the present moment, forging new connections, and finding solace and love within the ephemeral beauty of her current circumstances. It's a testament to the author's skill that we can feel the depths of Viv's emotions and embark on this heartfelt journey alongside her.
Bookshops & Bonedust is an immersive and beautifully crafted tale that reminds us of the profound magic found within the pages of books and the power of human connections. Travis Baldree's ability to make even the fleeting characters feel unforgettable is a testament to his storytelling prowess. This book will linger in your thoughts long after the final page is turned, leaving you with a renewed appreciation for the stories that shape our lives.

Prepare to be captivated by Hannah Kaner's "Godkiller," a masterfully crafted adult high fantasy that takes readers onBookstagram l BookTok l BookTube
Prepare to be captivated by Hannah Kaner's "Godkiller," a masterfully crafted adult high fantasy that takes readers on an exhilarating journey of self discovery and sacrifice. What sets this novel apart is Kaner's seamless and unapologetic inclusion of characters with disabilities – there's no hint of forced representation. Instead, they are portrayed as everyday individuals who exist organically within this richly woven tapestry of a fantastical world. (& the real world.)
The heart of the story revolves around an unlikely found family that will undoubtedly steal your heart. Kissen, a remorseless Godkiller shaped by a tragic past, and Inara, a noble-born enigma with an unidentifiable lineage, form the core of this enthralling ensemble. They are joined by Skedi, whose connection to Inara defies the divine, and Elo, a retired knight haunted by his wartime memories and a profound history with King Arren. Elo's quest, triggered by a fateful visit from the King, aligns with Kissen and Inara's pilgrimage to the city of Gods. This journey is about confronting divine mysteries and personal demons.
The narrative's pace is relentless, driving the plot forward with unwavering determination. While there is a brief pause in the action, this lull is pivotal for readers to deepen their understanding of the characters, fostering a stronger connection that enhances their later decisions. It's like spending a bit more time with cherished friends, a welcome respite that strengthens the emotional bonds.
I eagerly anticipate "Godkiller's" release in the States, where it will become more accessible to readers. Kaner's commitment to portraying individuals with disabilities as resilient and formidable as their non-disabled counterparts is both commendable and refreshing. In a genre often entangled in the savior complex, Kaner's novel steers clear of such tropes, focusing instead on the characters' inherent strengths and tenacity.
I eagerly anticipate the release of this book in the United States, where it will become more accessible to a wider readership. (already out in the UK). Kaner's commendable work shines a spotlight on individuals with disabilities, portraying them as equally resilient and formidable as their non-disabled counterparts. Godkiller refreshingly eschews the typical 'savior complex' often found in fantasy, where the storyline revolves around curing a disability. Kaner's agenda is clear, and it's a breath of fresh air in the genre. A strong debut that makes me eager to start the next book in the series.

A House With Good Bones knocked it out of the park. A haunting Southern Gothic that is Scary, Funny, HeT. KINGFISHER IS ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITE AUTHORS
A House With Good Bones knocked it out of the park. A haunting Southern Gothic that is Scary, Funny, Heartwarming ??, CREEPY, an absolute A++ read.
Laced with southern charm and cheeky comments T. Kingfisher does it again with another fantastic novel. Sam is excited to stay with her mom, after a work project falls through. When she gets there though, something is wrong. Her brother told her that mom had changed but when Sam gets to her house, its like she went back in time. Eerily similar to when her grandmother owned the house before she passed away. As her moms personality changes, and vultures swarm in, Sam has to figure out how to save her family.
Sam is a unique character who has a special interest in bugs and works as an entomology archaeologist. Her unique perspective on bugs and their contribution to the ecosystem of her moms house was intriguing to watch as it was interwoven within the story.
There was a lot of laugh out loud moments with Sam's snarky and spot on comments to all of the other characters around her. I enjoyed most about Sam's wit was the way she interacted with her family and their comments about her love life and body. These were small comments but they packed a big punch and such a nice detail in the grand scheme of family trauma and generational trauma.
If you have ever thought about picking up a horror book you should try this one. It is so much more than just horror and the horrific aspects are rather light. If you enjoyed How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendricks, or if you wish there was something more to it, then you should absolutely pick up this book.

For Aelis's first outpost after graduation she is sent to a small town that she is less than excited for. She believes she is being sent there because she is a female even though she excelled through school and is among the top of her class. We never spend much time exploring as to why she was placed in a small town but the setting gives her many troubles. The small town requested a Warden but never expected it to be a freshly graduated female.
This book somehow was not only action packed but also gave you a more cozy experiencing as the descriptions of food and locations are are vivid with sensual details that emerge you deeply into the story. Aelis gets to know the towns people and battles the difference between familiarity and respect.
This book was a blast! I couldn't put it down and ended up reading the entire book in one day and I was happy as a clam that I could because it was the perfect pace and allowed me to be completely immersed in the book. There was some moments that dragged on a bit but honestly they didn't bother me. It just felt like I got to enjoy more of the story and characters.
The audio narrations was perfect, the voice actor made the audio a breeze to listen to. I enjoyed the differentiation between characters and it allowed me to note new characters but not feel distracted by them. Sometimes in an audiobook changing characters can be jarring but the narrator gives them a differentiation while still being seamless.
This book is a fantastic jump into a book that leads towards high fantasy. The Warden, Aelis, explains the magic world as she goes and discovers new things about the town so the reader always knows their standings with the magic system. There is also a younger character who asks a million questions in the enduring curious kid way, that helps the reader know what is going on or why certain moments mattered.
