RY comiLast year after Iron Flame I didnt think I would go on with this Series - Im glad I stuck with it because Onyx Storm was.... really damn good.
RY coming into her own with her writing fantasy is sublime to read (Im so glad I did the re-reads)
-Holy character growth. Characters who got on my nerves in the first 2 book have now became favorites. And one in particular - my heart. Xaden and Violets growth and development as individuals and relationship wise is heartbreaking and tender and sweet and fun and funny and serious and.....just...crying. (no miscommunication trope this time around and no silly ex's making me eyeroll.) You can tell RY poured her heart and soul into this.
- The easter Eggs and foreshadowing. The theorists are going to have so much fun and I am here for EVERY SINGLE THEORY THEY PUT OUT THERE!
- The world building is phenomenal. And at some point I realized just how refreshing and original it is. Just like the plot (not perfect) BUT it's not a '500 year old Fae warrior/prince/king and a 20 year old human girl'.
- That friggin ending .. I dont know what to say
- The banter and the conversations and the snark is TOP NOTCH
Now I'm invested in this Series and totally gonna ride the Onxy Storm Theory Fun for however long. I remember when I started Throne of Glass and was kinda rolling my eyes but I stuck with it and watch the amazing author & story growth and it was one of the best damn things to ever witness-- This almost feels the same....more

And a big info dump in the first 30%. The reviews said to stick with it especially after the 30% - so I did but I was still kinda resentful about the learning curve and the info dump and my brain having to work extra so I kinda had a hard time relaxing and enjoying the book. Or maybe it's just me and I'm a big weirdo..... I dunno.......more

The Series is probably in my Top 5. but this final installment did not deliver. This was.... Just.... Not god. There was utterly no satisfaction in this ending. So disappointing. I am going to try and forget about this ending and remember Slade & Auren as they were in books 1-4. (Maybe the worms can get into my brain and actually be good for something - because they were so stupid in the book)...more

The sheer magnitude. The sheer....bigness.... of this storytelling is simply something truly remarkable to behold and witness. The way it makes one escape and travel to different worlds....
Storytelling, man.... This is just amazing, fun, crazy, beautiful storytelling.

Confession - I really only stuck around for *THE* scene. 2+1=3. OK. and it did not disappoint buuuutttttt a lot of the remainder of the book did. This Series might be losing "that magic" for me. This one did not disappoint though. LOVED the story, there is a Tristan Isolde feel to it. The world building is phenomenal & immersive. And the writing - I personally LOVE the descriptive, adjective laced, visceral writing. There were quite a few accounts tooting this as the next "Cassian/ACOSF" - Hmmh, I wouldn't go so far as that but I can see glimpses of it in the future and I am definitely here for it. For sure looking forward to the next installment. ...more
Soooooooooooo. I'm changing me mind I'm moving this rating up from the original 2 Stars on my first read back in 11/2023. I still have jan 2025 reread
Soooooooooooo. I'm changing me mind I'm moving this rating up from the original 2 Stars on my first read back in 11/2023. I still have criticism's of this book (ugh, the miscommunication trope *rolling my eyes*) but I really enjoyed it this time around when I took away all expectations (plus 11/2023 was a really bad time for me personally - so I think that may have contributed to the initial rating)
Anywho, looking forward to the release of Onyx Storm in a few days!

*sigh* Disappointed - Probably the biggest disappointment of the year for me....more

OK. This book. Has broke me.
Despair. The pain and torment. The fuckin torture. There were glimpses of hopefulness but man SJM just kinda stomped most of it out!
Manon Blackbeak is my favorite and I need more. (Chaol remains my shining light but his book is Tower of Dawn - I'm not done with that one yet!)
In the end this is a Gods-damn genius triumph of a book - I did not think SJM could top Queen of Shadows but here we are.......more

The world building is phenomenal but what really is the star here is the character building, the foresight, the planning, the weaving and putting it together, the glimpses of what's to come, the suspense, this is pretty much a masterpiece....more

Reread before Onyx Storm comes out. I'm lowering to 4 Stars. The foreshadowing is kinda brilliant, world building is real good, it's the side characters that bring the rating down for me. They're...just....kinda annoying, Maybe it's just me?
(I am going to reread Iron Flame now - I did not like it the first time around, we'll see how the reread goes.)

I dont care if the series is unfinished - I mean, it would beeeeee niiiiice if it were a finished series but it's not and no matter how many stupid "where is Winds of Winter" reviews one posts the series will probably never be finished. Enjoy the ride for what it is here and now....
