I want to climb in here and walk through doors only I can see in tobacco fields." And imaginary therapist would understand me on a whole new different level.
I am forever and always a Time Traveling fiend. There is nothing that brings my little mind alive more than twists and turns of time and the threads that weave and unravel through it.

2.5 Stars. This was...a lot. And it was *a lot* not in a good way. Epistolary in format - I love a good letter exchange (Hello, Possession) but man, t2.5 Stars. This was...a lot. And it was *a lot* not in a good way. Epistolary in format - I love a good letter exchange (Hello, Possession) but man, this, was I dunno. This just left me wanting more - wanting more of the characters, wanting more world building, just...wanting more of everything. I couldn't envision the characters or the world. Everything was just...flat. So when I say this was *a lot* it was a lot of letters that didn't take me anywhere. This is one of those books where folks either REALLY loved it or REALLY hated it, per the reviews. I'm neither - I was just flat about it, so 2.5 Stars....more

This book gutted me and held me enthralled the entire time. Imagine looking into another world and seeing yourself (but not really yourself) - seeing decisions taken by your other self, seeing choices made that you never did, seeing your flaws & traumas & heartaches and repeating the most painful moments in your life. But also seeing the good & happy and being a witness, in real time, to the fact that you could of been emotionally stable & healthy - with just one little tiny different choice. One miniscule contrasting decision. Instead of taking the elevator you took the stairs. Of hating yourself for where you came from and for what you did to survive. Of learning you are not defined by your past mistakes and coming to recognize the future is not set in stone - That you, the real you, can change at any given moment with the decisions and the choices staring you in the face right at this precise moment in time.
Man.
This is a book about parallel Universes and a Traveller who can traverse these other Universes.

It's a time travel How have I never come across this author until now? This book was published in 1971 but it is way ahead of its time. In every way. It's a time travel book and the story-line is quite disturbing - a young black woman from the 1970's travels back in time to the antebellum south arriving at a southern slave-owning plantation, hence the disturbing part. But nevertheless, it's truly a remarkable story....more

the amount of detail is, like, cray cray that no matter how many times one rereads these books there will always be something new to realize. It's still 3.5 stars for me - there were just one too many stretches that I just glossed over, that really just didn't need to be there, that did not add anything to the story. I am a huge proponent of The Humongous Ginormous Book ... as long as what is in the humongous ginormous book is what needs to be in the humongous ginormous book. ...more
