It is the saddest story in the Brooklyn Sinners series so far. It is filled with pain, grief, heartbreak, sacrifices, terror, blood, violence, and torture...
It’s a multidimensional story, actually three in one: the story of Syren, the story of Kane, and finally the love story of the two of them.

Syren’s façade falls off, and the real Syren is broken and strong, determined and sweet, vulnerable and kinky. He is like no one else. He is special. He is precious. And deserves to be loved more than anyone else.
Kane swallowed the bile in his throat. How could that happen to anyone, let alone the man who sat beside him now? Beautiful and strong and vibrant, and yet broken, in ways Syren himself probably never realized. How did things like that happen?

Kane is withdrawn and morose. It’s been years, but he is still incapable of moving on after his partner, Bailey’s death. Syren makes Kane smile again, brings him back to life, and makes him want to move on.

I could feel for Kane, but he is not as likeable as I expected. His guilt, hesitation, and recovery from grief are well-built and his character is nicely executed until the end of the story.
I hated Kane at the end. How could he believe (view spoiler)[Syren had been unfaithful to him? How could he not trust Syren after all those tears, shared secrets, confessions, and beautiful moments. I can’t believe he didn’t give him a chance to explain. And not only because it hurts, but it doesn’t fit Kane’s character either. (hide spoiler)] I hated this ending.

I loved Syren, and loved the story, despite all the pain and suffering. There was a pretty unexpected twist, and lots of heartbreaking moments. The only thing I’m not fully satisfied is Kane’s character.
