At 240 pages, HEAVY HITTER is a quick romance read great for Fall as we head into the end of the baseball season. Heavily influenced by Taylor Swift, this is the story of a pop star and retiring baseball player who fall for each other instantly. They get to know each other over the phone, they eventually decide to have a relationship, which is put under stress by stardom, distance, and exes. This was quite a bit spicier than Katie's last three books that I've read, but in an instalove story like this, it made sense. If you're a Swiftie or need a quick read, this is for you!...more

“You are like coming home and I’ve never had that before.”
Hollywood’s Golden Boy went through a bad break up and did a number on his image - so now he needs a steady girlfriend to help repair it. He suggests his assistant, Haley, for the task, and she agrees - as long as they have a list of boundaries and an expiration date.
This was such a cute and bingeable read! Aidan and Haley both have different types of heartbreak and hurt from their past, and Haley has some big walls up. But gosh they are just so good together ...more

Emma Wheeler loves rom-coms and hopes to be a screenwriter one day. She finally gets a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with her idol, Charlie Yates - but she's hesitant to leave her sick father in the hands of her younger sister. She decides to take a chance and head to LA to see if she can get her big break.
In true Katherine Center spirit, THE ROM-COMMERS is a delightful, fun rom com read with lots of heart. Emma and Charlie are on two opposite ends of the spectrum, but it's so fun (and humorous) to see them come together. Per usual, I also loved all of the side characters and subplots and thought they added to the story so well. This is a fun read, and you know I will always recommend a book with a redhead main character! ;)...more

Falon Ballard takes on a more emotional celebrity, second chance romance in Right in Cue, and it’s a delight. It was way too easy to binge most of this book in one sitting - Emmy and Grayson are an easy couple to cheer for, and the side characters are just lovely. My favorite part of this is the way Emmy and Grayson built each other up when they were struggling with feelings of being insignificant or inadequate. They balanced each other so, so well.

Omg, SWOON. While I absolutely love Katie’s books for making me laugh and smile as a romance blooms, this book also majorly pulled on my heartstrings and made me FEEL. The single mom pressure and anxiety and feelings of unworthiness from Lana were written so perfectly, and Carter was obviously everything she could ever need. His anticipation of Lana’s needs and interactions with Legs just made me melt. It was great to watch them finally come together as everyone else in their lives was rooting for them, too. This book is perfection: celebrity romance, laughter and heart squeezes, Gilmore Girls references, an amazing family dynamic, personal growth, and swoony romance. You can definitely read this without having read So That Happened, but it’s also incredible so you might as well read that one, too.

I am LOVING the reunion-show trope and 90s/00s references in a few books I've read lately, and The Daydreams has both of these.
The messy, off-the-wall cast from The Daydreams comes back together for a live reunion show years after their first live show totally imploded. I absolutely loved watching this drama play out in the past and present timelines, and then having each character give a soliloquy thoughout the story to explain their POV. This story is so engrossing I finished it in a day - all the scandal and secrets made it move so fast I didn't want to stop! I love where the characters ended up and thought that while this was a messy drama, it was also a great narrative on the expectations of teen stars and women in the TV/film industry.

Maggie Vine watched her mother go through life avoiding a lasting love, so she did her best to make sure it wouldn't happen to her by making the "if we're 35 and still not married, we'll get married" pact with two men, Garrett and Asher. Now she's 35 and they're both back in her life, so she's left with some choices to make.
Alison Rose Greenberg is so good at writing books that are really addictive and hard to put down. Maybe Once, Maybe Twice was a fun read wondering who Maggie would end up with and definitely going on a team for one of the guys over the other. But - Alison also explores some more emotional themes that are very real for women today, like not wanting kids when your partner does, sexual assault, and the reality of having kids when you're over 35. I loved the dual timeline aspect of this to really add into the "both guys could work" concept. While I liked the ending, it was a little rough... but I expected it to not be a straightforward HEA after reading Alison's first book, Bad Luck Bridesmaid.
Read this if you: - enjoy celebrity romance - think someone can love two people - have had a conversation about having kids with a partner - are 35 years old - like plot and lots of emotions with your romances...more

I nominate Ava Wilder as the Queen of Celebrity Romance. While writing about characters in the spotlight, she makes them messy and relatable in a way that always absorbs me right into the story. She can also write some TENSION. Whew. The past and present timelines were done well to tell the whole story of Shane and Lilah's relationship and have me rooting for them from their first audition. The side characters were fun and added to the story in a way that kept the focus on Shane & Lilah but allowed for some 'outside perspective' on on their relationship and some breaks from all the relationship drama. I would honestly read a spin-off about any one of the side characters. Absolutely love Ava's writing and this story about two stubborn but obviously-in-love actors.

I absolutely adored Elissa Sussman's first book, Funny You Should Ask, so Once More with Feeling was a much-anticipated read for me. It's a second-chance romance between former pop stars who reunite to put on a Broadway show.
I loved the premise and enjoyed the read, but it wasn't what I expected at all, which was angst, high emotions and top-notch tension, which were all present in Funny You Should Ask. This book was much more surface level and lighthearted while maintaining the celebrity romance and past/present timelines like her last book. We get to watch Kathleen and Cal fall for each other in both timelines, one as friends-to-lovers and one as enemies-to-lovers, but there's a lot of focus on other detail in the book instead of digging into the emotions of the characters. Overall an enjoyable read, and I think if you were iffy about Sussman's first book, this one is worth a shot because it's so much different!

Liv and Ransom met as child stars on the set of Girls on the Verge. 20 years later, they're reunited on set for the reunion episode, and very quickly discover that they still have feelings for each other. This second-chance celebrity romance was so cute, compulsive, and a great read. I loved the mix of celebrity news articles in between the chapters to add an extra Hollywood element and raise the stakes of the relationship a little more. The other cast members and friends are fantastic side characters, and our grand gesture and the "finally getting together" moments were just perfection. If you enjoyed Birds of California or How to Fake it in Hollywood, I think you'll love this book!...more
