Overall, it was an entertaining read. On a practical level, Klaus was not my cup of tea. Writing a truly unhinged villainous hero is a delicate task of your end goal is to believe 1. He actually loves the heroine and 2. Will take care of her emotional wellbeing. I’m not sure Klaus is capable of either. He can obviously provide for her physical needs and wellbeing but he shows callous disregard repeatedly for her emotional wellbeing. That dampened my reading experience a bit!
Fast burn, Klaus has been a patient and but he’s done waiting. He claims h around 20% of this novella.
I’m not sure why but I thought this series was complete. I can’t think of a specific reason I thought that though. In any **spoiler alert** 3.25 stars

Despite not really enjoying punishment tropes or spanking heavy books, I’ve liked this series a lot. The first and fifth book are my favorites but two and four were also solid great reads. For me, there was too much focus on the punishment aspect in book three but I didn’t hate it. The same is true of book six here. This book seemed much more interested in the punishment trope than the actual spicy bits. To some they may be one and the same but not for me. I tolerate the spanking to get to the spice.
Heavy focus on the DD/lg here. These all have age gap but not daddy kink specifically. That’s also not my thing but I don’t mind it.
Ultimately, I liked this one okay. I liked it better than book three. However, I disliked the h here. I enjoy h’s who need to be chased which is why I enjoy this series so much - however this one was too hard shelled to bring the vulnerability I like.
Faster side of medium burn, he steals her vcard at 37%. As with most of this series that details are somewhat *dubious*
He’s intensely jealous and that was my favorite part of the book. He has to keep chasing her and he keeps finding men behind doors he expects to find her (it’s all innocent) . Eventually he literally rips a door off its hinges.
Virgin h Push away from h No OW/OM drama No cheating No scenes with others No separation HEA Epilogue
**spoiler alert** I don’t know why I was surprised but I was all the same. There is an HEA, no cheating between H/h, 6 month separation while h gets over her previous relationship with H’s son. I actually disliked that part a lot. Her ex surely didn’t need anytime to get over her as he was cheating on her the whole time.
Even the revenge but was pretty unsatisfying because he wasn’t super upset over her banging his dad. ...more
This book is indescribably good. I’m pretty sure I’ve 4 or 5 starred every Layla Frost book I’ve ever read. She’s an extremely talented author. PrettyThis book is indescribably good. I’m pretty sure I’ve 4 or 5 starred every Layla Frost book I’ve ever read. She’s an extremely talented author. Pretty much the only thing that consistently irks me with her books is how INSANELY busy she keeps her characters. In some of the other books I’ve read from her both the H and h lead such intensely busy lives they barely have time for each other. I’m not sure what the ultimate purpose of this is in her books but it stresses me out. I always love the books so much but reading them struggling to spend time together always makes me anxious.
This book takes a small departure from this plot device Layla Frost is so fond of. It is a million times better. In this story, the H, Maximo, is the only one with the stupidly busy schedule. Juliet is his captive. She’s only 17 when she meets him moments after murdering her villainous father. He takes her with him and holds her captive. She tries to escape once but she’s being held in the middle of a Nevada desert and gets nowhere fast. Maximo has very little contact with his Little Dove in the first year of her captivity. He’s completely gone for her but being underage he keeps distance between them so he doesn’t lose control of himself.
When she finally turns 18, maybe a 3rd of the way into the book, he’s ready to claim her as his own. It becomes immediately clear we’ve got Daddy kink happening here, as he tells her she needs a daddy and going to be him. He’s 33 to her 18. She’s pretty on board. They start out kind of slow.
They are both cautious, both afraid of being rejected by the other. He ultimately gives her an out, I think so he can be sure she’s all in, for real. She doesn’t take the out, of course. He’s deliciously domineering. Even when she breaks the rules her punishments are spankings which they both enjoy immensely.
Honestly, daddy kink doesn’t normally do it for me. No judgment, it’s just not my thing. I definitely think some authors do it better than others and I think Layla Frost nails it.
The best part of their relationship is his nurturing and protective nature. He pampers and spoils her, he gives her everything she needs and happily encourages her interests and desires. It’s truly precious.
He’s also ruthless and brutal in his protectiveness. He avenges her by punishing people who’ve done her wrong and annihilating every obstacle that tries to come between them. She truly is a broken girl with a lot of insecurities and self esteem issues which he deftly works to help her with. He doesn’t change for her though. He shows her. EXACTLY who he is and she accepts him.
I can’t purport to understand he plot device Layla Frost uses in her writing to keep her characters inhumanly busy but I hope in her future endeavors she utilizes it more like she did in this book. Having only Maximo’s self inflicted busy schedule was much less stressful for me as a reader....more
