Man see**spoiler alert** Whew, this was a swing and a miss for me. This story took an unwelcome departure from the basic setup of all of these books. Man sees woman, main claims woman, man bulldozes woman into loving him. Danny (MMC) and Parker (FMC) were a bit of a frustrating mess.
They start off just as friends and over 2000 miles apart. Danny finally manages to get her to where he's at and from their they proceed to do a painfully awkward dance of push and pull. They take two steps forward and then two steps back leaving them in a weird friends with benefits limbo. I was ready to move past that after the first encounter but we are made to relive it several times over before they finally get on the same page but even then there is a lingering doubt until the end.
It also puts Parker on the backfoot of having to prove her love to Danny which I found very off putting. Talk about a major turnoff when all the previous books had unrepentant bulldozing cavemen in them.
They have numerous unsatisfying encounters involving sex toys before finally having sex around 62%

It's depressing. I guess that shouldn't be surprising when it's a story where the MMC is literally death. I've read lots of stories over the years where Death or a grim reaper was the love interest that weren't depressing so I don't really think I should have expected it to be depressing.
It is beautifully written. The author is definitely skilled. I just didn't enjoy reading this all that much. The FMC's life is just depressing. She's dead broke, in an unhappy relationship, in a dead end job and either is or thinks she is mentally ill. She trudges through her life trying to get glimpes and contact with the elusive entity of death. He never fully leaves her alone but for weeks at a time she thinks he's gone because he stops leaving her notes and stuff. I don't understand what the purpose of that was.
The FMC was in a relationship but it's terrible and he was undoubtedly cheating on her. He ends up dying and she mostly feels guilty that death killed him for her even though she didn't want that. The girl he was cheating on her with is at the funeral. Awkward.
Slow burn, they dont have sex until like 85%. There are a couple of spicy scenes that are just foreplay earlier on in the book. I think they were meant to be more titillating than they actually were.

Ugh, Sweet Cruelty was one of my top reads of 2021. This seems to be a theme lately. A book was in my top reads of 2021 and now the newest book in the series was a big old disappointment. I'm super over it.
The best part of the earlier books in this series was how the scary Russian guys immediately claimed the heroines. How have we come so far from that?
So this starts out with the heroine (Phoebe) literally crashing her her car into the hero (Mac). He ends up needing to claim her because she spiessome weapons in his damaged vehicle. He was probably gonna keep her anyway but that solidified the deal.
He's practically rescuing her from her abusive homelife but she's thick headed so she fights it. That got on my nerves so badly and it normally doesn't. I like a resistant heroine that has to be chased but she was fighting to go back to an abusive situation. WTF? It made zero sense. Then when she gives in it feels like it comes out of nowhere. She just suddenly has this revelation that she loves him out of nowhere. Talk about jarring.
This is an obnoxiously slow burn. They don't end up having sex until 75%. There are numerous spicy bits starting at only 11% but it's all boring foreplay. Ugh.

Easily one of my top books of 2021 and pretty high up in rank for all time favorites too. Then The Sinner was a big letdown. I felt so bad for Ellie and never felt like Sin loved her the way Ryat loved Blakely. It made me put off reading this book when it came out. I do think Tyson ended loving Lake but it still didn’t save this book generally for me.
Spoilers beyond this point. Proceed with caution.
I didn’t really like Tyson. I wanted to like him. He’s definitely a douchebag in the beginning. When he starts being less of a douche I really tried to be open to liking him but he just never won me over.
Lake was just too much of a doormat for me. She had zero personality. She was there to be fucked and objectified.
I think, at the heart of it, this just failed to make sense to me. There are oodles of brief flashbacks that started to grate on my nerves. I fucking hate flashbacks. There was some plot 3 years ago against Tyson. I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly why?? The plot failed, the Lords protected Tyson but he lost his title but got Blackout and the choice of marrying whoever he wanted.
So we’ve got two opposing things. He supposedly marries Laikyn to save her from being sold into trafficking. But he seemingly hates her and wants to humiliate her at every opportunity (that’s how it felt). So which is it? He’s saving her or punishing her for her families attempt at taking him down.
There’s this elaborate plan to sell laikyn into human trafficking but her family and the lords controlled every aspect of her life. They could have done that at any time without some elaborate marriage ruse. They could plucked her up and trafficked her at any time and she couldnt have stopped it. It makes no sense.
Then the sister isn’t really dead and married to the guy she was going to fake marry before he for real sold her into human trafficking and the sister wanted Tyson back though she was married to Luke and Tyson definitely fucking hated her. It makes no sense.
This just really missed the mark for me.
Fast burn, she loses her vcard at 14%. Heavy spice. It’s all very spicy but eventually started to skim some of it because I was bored of it.

I've read it in MMF and RH but not any full book dedicated to MM. It doesn't hold the greatest interest to me and I have a bit of ick surrounding the idea of straight women fetishizing MM spice. I really enjoyed Nikolai in the previous books though and all the intrigue built up surrounding this relationship.
Overall, I think it was just an okay book. I couldn't really enjoy the relationship between Nikolai and Bran because of the CONSTANT push and pull between them. It got so tiresome, so quickly and basically spans the entire book. The push and pull part of ANY book is my least favorite part. I generally prefer my books not to have it at all. I don't mind it when one party has to chase the other for a while but the giving in and pulling back, then giving in and pulling back is emotionally exhausting and tiresome. Sadly that is the whole premise of this book. Push and pull. Giving in and pulling back. On repeat for 500+ pages. Yuck. Just let them be together and work through their shit TOGETHER. There are at least 3 breakups and multiple week separations in this book.
It's a medium burn, they start fooling around near the 22% mark but don't go all the way until 38% or so.
No condoms Push away from both at various times, exhaustively Nikolai was a massive, self admitted, former manwhore Bran was pretty much asexual previously. OW & OM drama sprinkled throughout. Both are jealous/possessive No cheating HEA Epilogue
Safety - so Niko was a massive manwhore which he muses to himself about exhaustively. Nothing happens on the page but does think about it a lot in the beginning. After meeting Bran, his penis that he has named Kolya - won't get it up for anyone else - though he apparently tries to no avail. We don't see anything on the page, just him thinking about his frustratingly, uncooperative penis.
We do see him interact with people who are hitting on him or he's been with in the past. He's not interested now but it does serve to make Bran jealous.
When Bran is pushing him away in the beginning he summons his ex-girlfriend and re-establishes a relationship with her. He kisses her in front of Niko to push him away. He really barely tolerates the ex. He eventually breaks up with her. Niko, unaware, that he had already broken up with her, sends him a text saying to break up with her or he'll send a video of her riding his dick. Bran rushes over and she's there ready to give Niko a BJ. Bran runs her off and tells him he'd already broken up with her.

There were parts of this story I liked but ultimately this was more of a miss than a win for me. It’s not bad, there were a few elements I really liked but it wasn’t enough to save this for me.
What I did like:
Lachlan was insanely jealous of any man who Lyla interacted with. It was insanely irrational at times but truly delightful. I was giddy every time he witnessed her interacting with a guy because I knew he was going to come storming over like an angry dragon.
I liked how intensely and fiercely loyal Lyla’s friends were to her. Too often the h’s supposed friends are used to help the H and advocate for him. Prescott and Marissa had Lyla’s back 100%. That’s how friends should be in all books.
Unfortunately, that about it for what I liked.
⚠️I’m sure there will be spoilers beyond this. Proceed at your own risk. ⚠️
This story is told in 2 parts. The first part is approx 150 pages. It feels much longer. The author is trying to show us how quickly and deeply Lyla and Lachlan connected. I had a hard time staying focused here because I was bored for most of it.
**spoiler alert** You can’t win them all. I really liked Brutal Obsession and I loved Devious Obsession so I had higher expectations for this one. It’**spoiler alert** You can’t win them all. I really liked Brutal Obsession and I loved Devious Obsession so I had higher expectations for this one. It’s not a bad read but it just didn’t pack the punch the previous installments in this series carried. I actually thought I might like this one best of all and that’s a bit of a letdown.
I really didn’t enjoy the whole plot line where Knox was making Willow fall for him as a bet. I hated that Willow had a year long relationship with Miles’ brother and fell in love with him. Not to mention the notion that she’d declare her love for the shithead at a party instead of privately. The whole thing felt so contrived.
I think that ultimately the reason I struggled with this one is that I could never understand Miles’ reason for wanting to hurt Willow after his brother humiliated her. Why is she the one being punished in this scenario?
I also hated the flashbacks. I loathe nonlinear storytelling. It breaks the flow of the story and it’s fucking annoying. I just resent them for dragging me out of the present story.
I feel like Miles and Willow’s story didn’t belong in this series. I think they needed a story but this should have been Hockey Gods adjacent. In order to keep up the theme she had going of unapologetic asshole H unfairly punishes submissive h until he falls in love with her - I feel like she twisted things to make them fit instead of giving them an organic story of their own. I’ve seen the author getting some criticism for this being too similar to the previous books which I think is unfair. This is the story we’ve come to expect within the series and I wouldn’t want to read a different kind of story within it. I just wish she’d given Miles and Willow their own platform.
Safety - if you can see past the fact h had a yearlong relationship with H’s brother who then publicly humiliated her for a bet then this is pretty safe. Understandably there’s some OM drama from Knox but neither are interested in each other. Knox is needling his brother. There’s a football player who likes h. Nothing happens aside from him getting his ass kicked by the insanely jealous H. No OW drama at all. No cheating. No separation. HEA....more

There are some typos and grammatical errors throughout the book but I don’t factor those into my rating or review, I just like to give a heads up to readers who are bothered by it.
Ultimately, I think this book turned out to be a miss for me because of the H. It’s not all on him but most of it is. In the beginning he resented his constraints of having his whole life- mate included - planned out for him already. He was 17 and h was only 11 when it was revealed they were true mates. He was definitely ambivalent towards an 11 year old when his teenage buddies were out sewing their wild oats. He snuck around with a girl behind his parents back until they caught on and banished her. Eventually h wasn’t a kid anymore but the resentment had grown. While she was now available, beautiful and desirable he resisted his urge to be with her on principal.
When he finally did start to come around a huge part of him was holding back still clinging to his unresolved anger and resentment assuming they had a lifetime to eventually be together. Then it was too late h is ready to go and he just lets her. Then proceeds to just let her live her life for 7 years. He’s keeping tabs but not close enough to realize she has a whole ass baby - his baby, of course.

I’ve not come across anything like this before. It’s very short, only 60something pages. It’s a unique story. The h is an author, H is a character she’s written three books about. We start to get hints he’s a bit more than a creation of her imagination. I think this would have probably worked better as a full length book to explore the relationship and feelings however as smut this is pretty good. All the focus between them is on the sex. We just sort of have to accept there’s more there and she’ll be content giving up everything for him.
Safety - we get hints that she’s written a previous love interest for him but it didn’t work out. He tells us he’s had sexy times far beyond what she’s written for him. The covers for this series are pretty awesome. That’s one selling point but a great cover doesn’t make a great book. I’m not saying this is terrible but it’s far from good either.
I don’t know if it’s because this is a collaboration but the story feels extremely disjointed. I’ve never read anything by either author so I don’t know if they just don’t have narrative styles I vibe with or if this story is such a mess because they don’t really vibe well together. I found myself being drawn in sometimes and then cringing at others.
The storytelling is choppy. It felt like we were jumping from scene to scene rather than flowing. This is a FOUR book series. This book alone is 408 pages and everything here is very surface level and shallow. With a four book series I expect to know these characters intimately but it never happens.
She’s got these four dudes. They all want her. She wants them, sometimes. She’s all twisted up because reasons. Aside from straight up fated mate bonds we aren’t really given anything to go on as to why they all want her so badly. At this point, as far as the authors have said, Kingston is her fated mate. The others all want her. I suspect they are all fated mates because she’s clearly not a normal wolf shifter BUT so far we have’s learned if the others are actually her fated mates or not. Noah (Thorne) decides she’s his mate, it doesn’t acknowledge fated or otherwise, just his mate. She doesn’t immediately agree that they’ll be mates though.
The vampire, Noah (Thorne), starts off wanting to kill her. Her blood sings to him (love those Twilight vibes lol). He’s kind of douchey but not too douchey. She’s charmed. Then he ghosts her every five seconds. Then he’s literally had himself *branded* with a traitors mark because he’s decided to mate her no matter what - he never even discussed this before hand. Ok, then. She’s pretty up for it though it takes her a hot minute to fully commit. She’s indecisive and all.
Then her supposed fated mate Kingston. Here we have her rejecting him pre-book. He’s a douchebag to the extreme. He’s got severely fragile masculinity because he badmouths her to everyone because she rejected him. Here’s the thing. He knows why she rejected him. Everyone knows. She’s a shifter who can’t shift. She can’t accept a bond since she can’t shift. This is literally why she says she can’t bond him. Half the time the authors act like that isn’t a thing though. I suspect these two aren’t on the same page about the reason for the rejection or how widespread this knowledge is supposed to be.
We are also super lucky to be treated to her happening upon Kingston balls deep in a whore he’s using to comfort his fragile little feelings. Super fucking unnecessary. I’ll never understand why disgusting scenes like this are written into ROMANCE novels. How many women read these books to see H fucking OW on the page? If you’re one then, I promise you’re in the minority. I don’t need my books to be 100% safe but unless I’m reading a book about cheating (and I sometimes like those so I occasionally do) I don’t want to find H with his dick in another woman. Fucking gross. Good luck redeeming this douchenozzle now. I can feel it my bones though. These two have already laid the groundwork. It’s h’s fault he fucked OW, right? It’s not cheating. They aren’t together. It’s all HER fault. H is just a man. He had to fuck OW so he could feel manly again. The h is all to blame for making him fuck OW. He’s innocent here so nothing to redeem. GTFOH with that misogynistic bullshit. They won’t redeem H because he’s the real victim here. Fucking gross.
Then Alex who’s super into her and it’s unclear what’s in the way other than they don’t really know each other or spend any time together. So why does he want her?
Caleb the vampire priest is also a jerk most of the time but she plays out these constant bratty DDlg scenes with him even though he’s trying real hard not to play along (he’s failing miserably).
Oh there’s also a nasty vampire OW who bites the dust so I’m not really sure why she’s there. I personally hate OW drama most of the time so not sad to see her skanky ass die but like also why bother in the first place.
My intention here wasn’t to rant my way through this review but I clearly had some things to get off my chest, if you made it this far, I’m sorry lol.

Saige’s “bratty” behavior was downright bizarre.
There was nothing remotely subtle about this story either. Laurie being Saige’s mom and the Laura the clearly evil dude is looking for, couldn’t have been more obvious if the author had stated it outright.

It’s also Christmas! Bonus! Ultimately this was just ok though. I don’t regret reading it, the story was meh and it just missed the mark.
The time loop? Only happens 3 times! I expected more. In a book where the hook is a time loop I expected it to happen many more times. She starts to get it right on her third try and the rest of the book lapses into an angsty, messy story. Typically, I run when a book calls itself friends to lovers or the word unrequited appears anywhere in the description. Unfortunately, my brain saw Christmas and time loop and disregarded the rest.
Friends to lovers sounds nice in theory but I’ve never found one I liked at all. I like decisive heroes who pursue the heroine at all costs, so Andrew was a major disappointment. Even when she started getting things right in her third loop the time he takes from her feeling reveal to actually acting on it was disappointingly slow THEN at *literally* the first speed bump he discards the woman he’s known his entire life and has minutes earlier made a grand declaration that’s he’s always loved her and wanted her despite him initially telling her he’d “never considered her an option”.
Then it’s painful and awkward, then she makes a grand gesture. Then he makes a grand gesture. Then HEA. Meh. The extreme lack of chemistry between H/h made it hard to care.

This is a post apocalyptic future where vampires and lycan rule the world and humans get very poorly treated slaves with no rights. Nice and depressing.
Juliet has been trained a blood virgin from birth. She’s entirely pure and her sole purpose is to do the bidding of the vampire who purchased her at auction.
Darius is pretty much vampire royalty and he’s working to change the way this crappy world treats humans, starting with his blood virgin, who he’s training to help him change everything.
I liked this book, in some ways, it was more than I expected. It was good to see Juliet’s indoctrination start to crumble but I wanted to throat punch Darius’ a few times. He was mostly likable but there were frustrating parts.

Safety readers. - I wouldn’t personally class this as a safe read. There is no cheating and no SEX between anyone other than H/h but the entire nature of this society expects complete submission from humans and vampires are expected to share their humans - blood and sex.
He plans on making her his mate so he won’t have to share her sexually but the biting is all kinda sexual. There’s a practice scene where he has two friends come over and they share her. She’s naked, one bites her breasts, the other bites her femoral artery (inner thigh, near her lady bits), H is there and bites her also and manually stimulates her to O.
Then he’s supposed to do something similar the next night with a smarmy jerk but it doesn’t end up happening. Her clothes are see through though and H implies he’ll let him bang her next time. He doesn’t intend for that to happen but h doesn’t know that at the time and she’s devastated.
Then even after they are completely mates it’s strongly implied that while no one will be able to have sex with her that he will have to let others bite her. I found that notion to be really gross because he kept promising no one else would bite her but also implying he’d have to allow it. ...more
