She has been acting since she was a child and has seen it all. The Hollywood lifestyle isn't what its cracked up to be. She knows all about the "not so glamorous" behind the scenes and the partying that goes on. Marie wants out.
Marie tries to maintain a normal life; but she has boy trouble. Secretly in love with her best friend Manuel while casually dating other actors takes its toll on Marie. With all the boy issues and Hollywood drama, will Marie be able to live the life she wants in a career that is not her first choice?
Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. I was expecting an insiders take on being a starlet in Hollywood. What I got was a plot that was all over the place. There were many moments where I was confused. There were characters that were introduced that had no real purpose and unnecessary dialogue that did not enhance the story. Marie's character also felt underdeveloped. One second Marie was dead set on saving herself for marriage, then the next moment she was in a ridiculous situation that could have easily been avoided. The twist at the 65% mark was absolutely ridiculous. I can't even really comment on it.
I also had a hard time following the plot simply because of the writing. It felt incredibly choppy with too much detail. There really was no need with using an entire page to explain what SAG meant. There was so much telling and not enough showing that I never connected with the characters. I think this story has some good elements but still needs a lot of work on character development and plot cohesion.

Reading tHave you ever began reading a book expecting the "usual" plot and by the end of the book walk way surprised with a story you did not expect? Reading the novel Vain did just that. It completely blew me away. I initially started this novel expecting a light, easy read and was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this book. Once I started, I could not put it down. It was that good. The synopsis for the novel Vain really doesn't do it justice.
The story begins with Sophie, your typical stuck up, self absorbed, nasty socialite, who cares for no one but herself. She enjoys inflicting pain on others to improve her self-esteem. Because of her astonishing good looks and wealth, she rules her small group of wealthy friends and enjoys controlling them. Parties, drugs, and sex are their vices of choice. Sooner rather than later, the good times end and reality sets in. The poor decisions Sophie makes catch up with her when she is sentenced to 6 months of community service in an orphanage in Africa. Once in Africa, Sophie discovers that she is more than just a wealthy daughter with a pretty face. She is someone who can love others and be loved in return. I won't spoil the story by going into too much detail but it really was a great unexpected read. When I first read about Sophie, I truly despised her. (view spoiler)[ When I ended the story, I respected her for the change she made. I was so happy that she was able to love herself as well as find the true beauty that she had from within. I gave Vain 4.5 stars. It was a beautiful tale that held me captive from the beginning to the end. My only issue with the story was how the author rushed through the ending as well as the epilogue. To put it simply, I wanted more detail... expected more detail. I would also love a few chapters from Ian's POV. ...more

The relationship between Liam and Amber was beautiful. I truly felt the love between these two characters. You could see their relationship blossom with each new chapter. The author dealt with the topic of abuse in a very interesting way. I was really hoping Amber and her brother would get some therapy. The writing was good, but it could have been edited better. Just a handful of typos were found. Although the story felt rushed towards the end, the author did a nice job of ending the emotional roller coaster it took me on. Am I happy I read this novel? Absolutely! It is definitely worth reading. ...more
