Either way, this was such an enchanting story! I enjoyed "Howl's Moving Castel" and this one took me to the middle east! It reminded me very much of "The Arabian Nights" which is one of my favorite story collections of all time! I believe that perhaps this novel might have influenced Disney's Aladdin as well with all the similarities. I think if you enjoyed and of those things I just mentioned you will love this book too! I would love to see a Ghibli adaptation of this novel as well as the third book in the series some day!...more

The fact that AG has not made this into a film series should be considered a crime because not only would it educate our youth about this time period, it would for adults too. There are many very adult themes that just hits differently now and I know a film adaptation would make me teary eyed.
Addy has to go through so many challenges from slavery, learning to read, segregation laws even in the North, and so, so, so much more. There were so many emotional moments, there were many sections that made me pause and think about the people who did live during this time, and we should never allow that to happen to anyone again. It made me think of all the slave narratives I have read (which you too should read) and connect with the people during this time.
Connie Rose Porter I believe wrote a masterpiece of a children's series and nothing can top this in my book.
Here is my ranking of AG books: Addy (1864): Five Stars Kaya(1764): Five Stars Kirsten(1854): Five Stars Felicity(1774): Five Stars Josefina(1824): Four Stars Elizabeth(1774): Three Stars

What I really liked about it, is that is explore more of the segregation that takes place in the north despite everyone being free. The pharmacist scene made me mad as I know this is true and was worse and I still can't wrap my brain around people not liking others over something as silly as skin color. Also the streetcar scene made me stop and think as well. It is sad that throughout human history we treat each other badly over vain things. This book had many important lessons and moments as does the rest of the series and really does cause the reader to think about what they have read. Connie Porter has done an excellent job so far with this series and it's no wonder why Addy was actually my favorite AG character growing up!...more

Addy learns what it means to be a true friend in this book and that Harriet is not, while Sarah is. On top of that, she learns the importance of apologizing when messing up. I also loved that she won that spelling contest, and the other challenges freedom has that was presented in this book. This is the best storyline AG has ever done. ...more

It has been many years since I have read Addy's story and I remember hers being my favorite as a child, and she may very well be as an adult. This first book was very intense and showcased many important moments in US history and showed how gross slavery really was towards fellow humans. I am so excited to read the rest of this series and for any adults reading this story please seek out narratives written by slaves if interested because I believe those to be some of the most important written works in US history. ...more

It is a really nice comparison Honestly, I really appreciate that Laura Ingalls Wilder takes the time to write about her husband's childhood as well. It is a really nice comparison to how her family lived and how Almanzo's family lived. His family is who I would classify as the American middle class at the time and I would say Laura's was lower middle class if not in the poorer range. Its just neat to see she took the time to write his experience as a child showing different perspectives to 19th century America.

I loved the TV series as a little girl and watched the episodes over and over again. What I enjoy about this book is that it tells the story of their house in the big woods and Laura's family they left behind when traveling to Walnut Grove. I was wrong, and delightfully so.
I found this book such a delight to read today. I enjoyed how it could be both a great standalone, but served as a great sequel too. We get to see Glinda, Scarecrow and the Tin Man again which was lovely! We also got new characters to enjoy my favorites of course being Pep and Jack the Pumpkinhead. Also Mombi in my head kind of looks like the sorceress from Disney's "Sword in the Stone".
Overall a wonderful book and I am excited to see where this goes for the third book in the seiries. ...more

My favorite childhood series was actually the Magic Tree House Books and the American Girl books. However, I don't own any of them and I have already read some of them this year. I did recently acquire a few of the "Sandy Lane Stables" books and I remember enjoying them as a young girl. This was still a fun read as an adult who was once horse obsessed. This story reminded me a bit of "The Saddle Club" and of the Felicity series from "American Girl" overall this was a good horse book for some nighttime reading and a fun reread. ...more

For this prompt the only book I have with a bunny on the cover is my copy of this one. This was fun to reread, Carroll creates such a fascinating world with this story. One with color and vibrance, no wonder it is still loved so many years later. If you enjoyed the Disney film, you will enjoy the books too because they combined AAiW and TtLG as one piece in the film. There is not a whole lot I can add to the conversation that hasn't already been said about this book. It is a fun adventure to be on, as you too experience wonderland with Alice and meet the zany characters Carroll creates. Also, I will add I enjoyed the addition of the poems, riddles, and I love how he plays with typography too. ...more

Jack and Annie are sent into the future 2031 to be exact, which is less than a decade away now! Isn't that wild! It still sounds so futuristic to me, but it's right around the corner. Anyways, the kids mess around on the moon as the conclusion to the "Peanut" arc and finally free Morgan from her spell. This one is not a favorite of mine not sure why, more than likely because I didn't really read this one like I have other books in the series as a little girl. I am also very curious if we really will have a moon base by 2031 as Osborne predicts. I am also curious if other books of hers will be in the futuristic and how.
Also... I'd like to know more about the spaceman, if he is alien where is he from? How does Morgan know him? There are many questions I have lol. That would kind of a cool arc like the Merlin Missions... intergalactic space travel. And here is where I end my reviews. Until I get my hands on books 9-12. :) ...more
