anyway, the book is just john deciding that the gay nazi he's lusting after "isn't a monster" with no proof to back it up and just rolling with it. now, i agree that he isn't a monster, sir, just like all the other german nazis weren't. they were human beings that, depending who you asked, could even be described as kind and sweet. i also don't delude msf into thinking germans didn't have strong motives to support hitler - but that's my xxi, educated perspective. it sure ain't what a grieving american fighting at wwii believed, neither did the german do smth to make him believe that.
