the bad: 1. past-to-present structure. stories with well-written dual timelines are my favorites - the mistery, curiosity, anxiety and plot twists provided by them can be so delicious! sadly, the structure here is awful: constant switches, flashbacks fully written in italics, zero suspense built or interesting questions answered by revealing the past... the list goes on. it made for an annoying, boring read. 2. cam is very misogynistic - not in a violent way, but remarks like "he'd never liked men who acted like women, but he didn't care when their mouths were stuffed of cock" or "what are you, a fucking woman?" are rather constant.
the ugly: 1. awful wives (and women, in general). the wife here is egocentric as fuck. she only sees her own pain, shaming and invalidating her husband's suffering every chance she gets - and that would've been totally normal, if i haven't just read another cara dee book where both wives were egocentric bitches as well. add that to cam's thoughts, and the fact that most women on those two books are either bigoted, annoying, barely there or pregnant, and it makes one wonder if the misogyny belongs to the characters' psyche only.
