Wtf was this book and how the hell did I manage to finish it I'll never know. It's one of those books you see recommended everywhere, have your reservWtf was this book and how the hell did I manage to finish it I'll never know. It's one of those books you see recommended everywhere, have your reservations but want to try it regardless only to almost die of boredom after the 1/3 of the book. Then you want to dnf the hell out of it. But the voice in your head whispers for you to finish it so that you have not waisted this time without reading this book to the end. That voice in your head? IT MUST BE KILLED!
The backstory of the heroine is sooo farfetched, i wanna grind my teeth. Her parents loved each other, but not her and ignored her completely. To the point of forgetting about her on their vacation for 2 days. To the extent of not speaking to her like AT ALL when she was in the room. We even see a flashback when the heroine addresses both of the parents but they pay her no attention. They simply don't see her in the room and never talk to her. I don't know about you, but it seems too me like a cheap reasoning to make the heroine, Tiernan, 'wounded and hurt and misunderstood'. So she almost never talks.
I don't know what goes on in a head of a teenage girl who moves across the country to people she never ever saw to spend 8 weeks before turning 18. Especially since the guardian/step-uncle clearly stated over the phone she has a choice and doesn't need to come if she doesn't want to. The whole phone conversation is soo weird if you disregard her inner monologue. She doesn't reply at all. The uncle throws at least 10 lines at her and she only answers in her head. Girl, you need help asap!
She comes to the mountains, and for weeks continues her routine of not speaking, only nodding or shaking her head and getting angry and aggressive when people try and make her say something beyond 'yes' or 'no'. Yet the stage enters Kaleb, who first time they see each other, tries to rape her, she tells him no repeatedly but still feels "heat pull down her stomach", is saved by the other brother but later every time Kaleb gives her the silent treatment and doesn't respond, she can't understand why he's not speaking to her. And gets angry. Girl, you should've left that godforsaken mountain right after the rape attempt, but not before reporting Kaleb to the cops.
Speaking of Kaleb.... He's not a book boyfriend at all. He's not alpha, or possessive or tortured or misunderstood. He's sick in the head and as a result dangerous to society. He was forgotten by his mother in the car and spent there 4 days (get it, both main heros where forgotten by their parents, must be soulmates ...more
