I adored the characters, they had such distinct personalities and the dialogue was fantastic. Overall, this was a very entertaining read but I can't honestly say that I understood everything that was going on. In fact, I felt lost in multiple occasions and had to re-read entire passages trying to grasp what's going on. Maybe that's just because I don't read a lot of sci-fi, but it did make me feel that this book was dragging a bit and I had to read it in between easier reads.
The characters were such a stand-out though I want to give this a 3.5 star rating rounded up to a 4....more

The social media commentary was really well done with an unlikeable but very real MC who progressively became more and more obsessed with remaining relevant after the sudden popularity she experienced. I'm not much into social media myself but I can see how much this would work for people who are and especially for YouTube content creators. I think that's why most of the Booktubers I watch enjoyed this book.
Now, the sci-fi part was intriguing, but if I say that story-wise this book was the most interesting, fast-paced thing I've ever read, I would be lying.
I would just like this to move a bit faster and have a slightly more exciting plot but it was honestly really good. Had this been a bit faster, I woud have easily given this a 4....more

It's not that I don't enjoy this genre but my favourite genres are fantasy and romance (preferably combined) so I don't find myself 5-starring books from different genres that often.
The scope of this book is mind-boggling. This is a body-hopping, whodunnit novel that I would imagine reads like an Agatha Christie novel if I had ever read one (I know, I'm ashamed too but I've watched movies if that counts?).
Warning for information overload, you basically get to relive the same day 8 times from the perspective of a different character every time and you get so many clues, so many different discussions and perspectives that it's hard to remember who did what, and who discovered what and which event happened first etc. Plus, I was listening to the audiobook because I don't have much time for physically reading books unless it's the weekend and this is kind of on the long side. The audiobook is great (narrator is good, I would recommend it) but it's also harder to remember everything with the audiobook as you can't go back and re-read something.
Stuart Turton, I am taking a bow! I swear at some point I was lost and trying to keep all the facts together without forgetting anything and then when I finished this novel, I realised there was nothing that didn't make sense, no plot holes, no questions left unanswered, no event that I didn't know how it fitted in the story despite the fact that I was convinced I would feel lost. I don't know how this man did it, it must have taken ages to plot this so masterfully.
Actually that's a lie, the only thing I couldn't figure out is the time period this is set in, but I would take an educated guess and say it's set in the early 20th century, as they had automobiles but nothing as modern as a phone, computers etc.
If I give a mystery 5 stars, that definitely means something. I will gladly read Stuart Turton's next novel and I highly, highly recommend this book....more

This one was definitely a great start. I consider myself a reader that enjoys both character-driven and plot-driven stories. The characters were decent here though nothing to write home about. The plot though was fantastic and I found myself thoroughly enjoying this book.
It was an extremely clever idea for a book, it made me think and it re-kindled my interest in physics and science which I really loved in school but haven't thought about in years.
It was also very action-packed and I would love to see this turned into a movie or a series as it kind of has that vibe....more

I was very surprised with this book. I expected to get a sweet romance set in space and while the romance was beautiful this book also had a very strong plotline.
The book reads like kind of a survival thriller as our main characters find themselves alone in a hostile and desserted planet, trying to make their way to the spot where their spaceline crashed after making their escape in a pod and landing on a different part of the planet. Lilac and Tarver try to make their way to the crash site as they think they have better chances of being located by a rescue crue if they are close to it when strange supernatural phenomena start occuring.
Apart from the very interesting plotline, it was also a surprisingly emotional read, so overal I found this book to be a very wholesome experience.
A very good book I would highly recommend. The plot completely came out of left field and I definitely plan on continuing with the series....more

I read this in one sitting almost a month ago so it's not fresh in my mind at the time of writing this but I absolutely adored this book! I was floored by how romantic it was, the longing, the heartache! OMG.
And here we have two heroes that are equals and they absolutely respect and simply adore each other. This book was perfect, I have no words!...more

No surprise here! I loved this one! I don't know how I didn't read this earlier last year, I think I just hadn't realised it had been published. I was really looking forward to this couple when I read the first book. Ksar seemed like my type of hero, aloof and starchy.
This was another great book by Alessandra Hazard, it wasn't very cheesy but it still made me quite emotional and I just love the angst in Alessandra's books. It's so so good! That push and pull, will they won't they, it gets to me every time!
I would have liked to get a few more chapters after these two officially got together at the end but it's not a big deal. I still loved the book!...more

I had some assumptions about tihs book and I wasn't 100% right. I thought this was going to be a funny, light-hearted book and while there was a lot of comedic relief and laugh-out-loud moments, there were also enough serious moments for the book to strike the right balance.
Ever since I read Six of Crows, I realised I enjoy reading books where all the members of a crew are main characters and I enjoy multiple POVs. I liked all the characters, some more than others of course, but I genuinely liked and cared for each and every one of them. Hopefully, we'll get to know them even better in the following books as I feel that there might not have been enough page time for all of the characters so I didn't get to know them as much as I would like to. I don't agree with some reviewers who have claimed that these characters are indistinguishable, though. I think they all had quite a distinct voice.
All in all, this book has action, a motley crew of misfits and a lot of fun adventures in space and I would highly recommend it....more

This is a thought-provoking book with a very interesting concept. The pace was very consistent, there were no boring moments in this story.
But what made this stand out even more for me was the writing. I loved the writing so much, it was simple but not simplistic, the story flowed in a wonderful way that had me hooked without making my brain feel more tired than it already was after reading a very confusing book. Quite the opposite actually.
I've heard the newly-released sequel is even better and I look forward to it!...more

I bought the first 3 books in this series years ago but I never got to read them. The time was right as I needed a break from romance after I read an amazing romance and I would probably do any other book an injustice reading it after that one. Naked in Death seemed like the perfect solution as it still has some romantic elements but the focus is on the mystery part. I was not wrong!
This book blew me away. I found the mystery part very well written. I did not know who the killer was until s/he was revealed (I'm normally not good at guessing these things though so it doesn't mean much :P) and I was at the edge of my seat while reading this book. I loved the writing style and the characters were flawed but likeable. Eve kind of reminds me of Kate Daniels, though Kate will probably always be my favourite girl. Eve is pretty amazing in her own rights though and while Roarke is almost too good to be true, I loved him! How could I not?
I have to say, for a sci-fi written in 1995, this read amazingly well even 23 years later. I was very reluctant to read this at first because I've only read a couple of Nora Roberts CRs and I didn't like them but she did an amazing job here.
The size of this series is daunting but I will definitely read more about detective Eve Dallas and her man solving crimes. I'm hooked!...more
