Unfortunately t3 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well, not as good as I was hoping for. A distopian take on Amazon, Apple Watches and Soylent Green all rolled in to one. Unfortunately there was something that keeps me from loving this one. Two of the main characters were OK. But I just didn’t feel attached to them. The Cloud owner’s chapters were self-serving drivel that didn’t move the story forward. Overall, it was a meh read for me. ...more

Once you make it through the first half, the last half is one HUGE ride! I was holding my breath, hiding my eyes and saying "OMG!" at the end of almost every chapter. Well worth the read! Normally I would wait before starting the next book, but this one has me craving to find out what happens next! I'm not going to say anything, but those who have only watched the series on HBO are missing out on some really juicy stuff! The next season is going to be a barn burner! Just don't get too attached to any one character; don't make a hasty judgement on any character (except maybe Joffrey and Cersei!)...more

5 Stars! I loved this book so much more the second time around. I picked up on many little details that I missed the first time; things that are not in the HBO series. Having watched the HBO series helped with my peeve below (too many characters). I highly recommend this book if you want a richer/deeper understanding of the HBO series.
I'll say this again...not normally the type of book that I read. The first 50% of the book moved very slowly. It was well written, but moved at a much slower pace than I'm used to. However, once the book pushed past the halfway point, it picked up and got much more interesting. It took me 3 weeks to read the first half of the book and only 3 days to finish the book (with a two week cooling-off period!). My other complaint is there are so many characters, it was difficult to keep them straight. Also, for some of the storylines, there would be many, many pages and two or three storylines in between, it was hard to remember what happened the last time the characters were on stage. All that said, I did enjoy the book and plan to read the next in the series (after reading a few mysteries first)....more

I felt a lot of peer pressure to read this book...starting with both my sons, my best friend, co-workers, even our swim coach. I have to say I enjoyed this much more than I enjoyed Twilight. I thought the characters were better drawn, if a little one-sided, since we see everything through Katniss' eyes. However, I totally get how both my boys loved this book. There is a lot of action. Enough that the "icky love stuff" is looked over by two pre-teen boys. I like that I can read a book they love and actually find some enjoyment in it. We have lots to talk about. I will even read the rest of the series because I want to know the consequences of Katniss' actions now that she is back home....more

So many little details that didn't make it in to the movie make it a much richer experience. Since it is the 20th anniversary of it's publication, a good re-reading of the entire series is in order!
Just as good the 3rd time around. It's been 4 years since I read this book and it still captivates me...even after watching the movie endlessly with my boys....more
