I think I understand what others liked about it, but it didn't appeal to me. On the other hand, it's short (15-20 minutes) so if you like Grady Hendrix's writing and are completionist, give it a go.
It was trying to be deep, I think. It wasn't for me.

Many readers will appreciate Moreno-Garcia's stylistic flair, and they'll be right. But when it comes to the story ... there's not much of that here. It's a historical fiction about survival during the Mexican Revolution, peppered with grief, sadness, and mentions of animal cruelty.
It's clear (judging by reviews) many readers found depth here; I didn't. ...more
