Complete waste of time for any liberal as all the 'researched' facts is a selection based on the author's prejudice against Muslims migrants in EuropeComplete waste of time for any liberal as all the 'researched' facts is a selection based on the author's prejudice against Muslims migrants in Europe. The huge numbers of Muslim migrants are because their houses are being bombed, and their livelihoods destroyed, their personal safety no more. And why are their wars in their own countries? How can the author deny Europe's direct involvement in the Middle East? Are their foreign policies not to blame? Or are we only going to refer to history when it suits us?
Careful when you read it as the author freely quotes immigrants and Muslims without any differentiation. I am not sure if he is actually against immigrants in general or just Muslim immigrants.
But do read it if you have anti-immigrant tendencies. It will really give you a great time....more

Unfortunately, Very readable version of the Bible, which not only kept me entertained but also intrigued as some of the stories were really profound. Unfortunately, most of the stories of the greatest book were contradictory and chaotic which didn't make much sense, even if the author tried his level best to explain. But I guess that's what makes the Bible a profound experience....more

The whole migration debate should be realigned. Migration takes place out of desperation, its about survival, probably the basest of all human traits. The fact that migration is happening should be a clear indication to all developed and rich countries that all is not well in Eritrea or Afghanistan or Syria. So real pressure should be placed on those countries to get their act together instead of cosmetic changes like building walls on their own borders.
Most immigrants are conservative in nature and are definitely conservatives in their own countries. They are after money, jobs and better life, and they are willing to work their assess off to achieve these goals. They would make ideal conservative constituents as they have more in common with conservatives than liberals.
A refuge once he leaves on his dangerous journey towards his allusive goal is unlikely to return. Why? because his journey is treacherous, unpredictable feeding his insecurity, inflating it even further. How will any immigrant go back after he has seen and survived so much 'on his way'? The very qualities required to survive such a horrendous journey are prized in an indigenous cultures.
Does an aging Europe not need hard working people?
You have to issue us with papers.(Job) You need t tell us that we can have a future. You can't escape us immigrants.(Job seekers) We wont stop trying We wont stop taking risks. Its better to die trying(looking for a job) in Europe than to live in poverty back home.
Should not the EU nationalistic policians start re-skilling these hard working and determined people as a matter of policy? ...more

And its all because you happened to be born in a particular culture. Its all down to a mere chance of birth. Its not how you were conceived, its where you were born and you did not have anything to do with it, at all.
All through the journey, two kinds of people emerge. The desperate refugee and an equally desperate host. The refugee is constantly hoping for salvation, willing to compromise with any situation, battle hunger and fatigue, put up with all kinds of deprivations to claim his place among the privileged lot. While his host will fan the fire of the refugee's hope, keeping his expectation flaming constantly before passing him to the next host in the chain. This totally illegal and underground refugee travel industry resilient and dare I say pretty effective. As the refugees once they have paid their handler are not required to strictly pay at any stop on the whole route. I read the whole story with complete fascination. I have myself met an eleven year old Afghan boy who had made a similar journey and lived to tell the tale.
So where do I find myself in the whole refugee debate? Should they be accepted or refused?
I think by the end I was still squarely sitting on the fence.
One thing was abundantly clear. Anyone who is able to put up with this hell of a journey cannot and will not be convinced to go back. Extended torture on his journey has fortified his resolution to 'make it' even further. So there is no point in the privileged lot expecting any refugee to return. On the other hand, each refugee has to learn to understand and accept the culture of his privileged host. There is no point in sticking to the same values which have indeed destroyed his own country to begin with.
So there is both the privileged and the refugee could do with a bit of empathy to each other.
Easier said than done but this book is a most valuable addition to the whole debate as there are very few stories from the refugee side....more
