This book is one humongous cliché, from characters to plot.
- Slight overweight (but hourglass -figured) "normal" heroine who at the end of the novella is this super wonderful Mary Sue with special powers. - Big, large shouldered alpha who loses control as soon as he sees "normal" gal. - Treason, overcome by said heroine who discovers how much special she is.
Sigh, it was a waste of time (both to read and review).

I reached mid book out of sheer will, but then I told myself: why? Why should I punish myself with this trash? Most books I choose nowadays aren't "literature" (I binged on that at uni, thank you very much), but still I expect them to be a pleasure, however guilty.

I do not understand this huge gap in erotic romance, on one side romance, on the other porn. I like sex in books, porn not so much. I like dominance, not humiliation (or rather I understand sub vs dom but I don't understand this description of pain nor accept humiliation. The last sends me into rage...)
In this book, moreover, the lead woman enjoyed being raped, as in really raped (at 14 and then again 21) while battered. Meh. I don't understand really, the sex was so much and so repetitive (to me boring) that I skipped page after page. The "plot" is the usual in this kind of stories, same for characters.

Why would anyone want to read about an idiotic teen is beyond me. Coming of age stories can be great, think HP. But you need a journey and a hero you want to know about. Teenage years are hellish enough, adding a worthless idiot isn’t helping. You could almost hear her stomped her foot. When the letter swapping started I could not go on....more

This is the fourth book of hers I’ve read (or tried to), and honestly I wonder how those books got to be published. Even in the erotica camp (and they aren’t exactly that), they are bad. Except for the beginning of the story, which was intriguing, the book was a chore to read: boring, plotless, flat, with no chemistry or romance worth its name. It’s meandering and going nowhere. At 60% nothing really happened, except the absurd. They kidnapped and killed you and there is no reaction to it. Anything at all. Plus, they don’t know anything about their own life and bring an other person in it.

At 84% I couldn’t stomach it anymore. It highlights everything that is wrong with self publishing: lack of talent and of “trade”. You might not have the first and still write something half decent, but when you don’t know how to write… ouch. And here there really was nothing salvageable, plot, world building, characterisation but above all the writing itself. This is what a would be teen “writer” has in her dream/desk. But it should have stayed there. I wonder if that “bestselling author” is a downright lie or what. Because my idea of bestselling is Ilona Andrews (and they are way far from the truly bestselling names out there, for all their talent..) But then this is trump era, isn’t it?...more

The vampire is an afterthought in the story. It’s been a while since I met such a failure. The full title should have been a warning (a “snarky”…), but I read it too late. Snark is a cover up for all the failures a book piles on us and as usual it doesn’t work. At all. It can’t replace characterisation, world building or basically a logical plot. All points sorely MIA here. Add that there is absolutely nothing fresh (we have the tragic past, the special snowflake who isn’t what she looks, the para police force… I’m not joking there’s not a comma that hasn’t been (better) used before…) In itself this lack of any idea shouldn’t be awful, if you then do something different with the same ingredients. Here we have the same recipe too AND in the hands of a “worst cooks in America” type of writer.

I add a nonsensical plot to it, stupidity galore (both character and situation wise), and total lack of situation awareness. But then this author can't stick to the situation she's writing about, so her character smirks during a horrorific murder scene where the same character was almost throwing up....more

Mostly because there is no book to read. It's a scant dozen pages (if you format it properly, as it is you get mostly one phrase for page with few exceptions that get either a paragraph or a page). Honestly I am appalled that such a scam was published. It's a disgrace to the publisher and the author's reputation. I didn't mind the end of Sookie's series, you can disagree with an author but at the end of the day its their story not yours. But the fact that they published this book and charged a wham for a whole bunch of nothing is insulting and offensive.
The series ended 6 years ago, still I had no idea who 90% of characters were. And yes I agree with other reviewers, it does seem she hates the world she has created. Her characters' destinies are quite awful...
This isn't a novella nor a short story it's a bucket list. I can only imagine the fury if I had paid for it. Even on loan I got mighty irritated. It really shouldn't have been published except maybe as a wiki on the author's website. ...more
