Harkham's Case (Harkham's, #1)
by

Genre: New Adult Romance
Cover: 4/10
Writing: 7/10
Heroine: 9/10
Hero/s: 10/10
Humour: 3/10
Hotness: 6/10
Romance: 9/10
Extra book Details: Heroine & Hero POV; 3rd person.
When Adam re-attempts to finish high school he is instantly drawn to the sweet and kind Mari. Needing nothing but to hold her hand, Mari can't resist his endearing qualities and accepts the hand holding duties. But parents, enemies, the past and the future seem to get in the way of anything more.

This is my 4th Chanse Lowell book and I kind of know what I’m letting myself in for with her. Sometimes, she gets a little extreme but all for entertainment purposes ;)
So, despite my 4 stars, I do have my reservations, and I don't think this book is for everyone. The only thing that bothered me was the extreme storyline that was Mari's past. There were too many issues and too much angst.
But, I LOVED Adam! Damn. Adam is diagnosed with 'Harkems Case' (a made up issue, close to Autism). He was very emotional, he felt things so heavily and came out with some really heartwarming speeches. Though he's emotionally stunted, he's incredibly intelligent. He also has no brain to mouth filter and is very insistent and unpredictable.
Like I said, Mari had a lot of extreme issues. She's obsessed with her weight, exercising and eating. She was involved with sex and drugs at age 12, believes she was the cause of a baby dying, obese at 15, in and out of rehab and attempted suicide... AND her mom is a slut, her dad an obese hoarder.
But I still liked her, she was kick ass, she won't put up with shit from others anymore and she's trying so hard to redeem herself. She has a good heart.
I loved their relationship, they needed each other so much. She's been neglected and abandoned by her parents, he makes her feel valued and accepted, she makes him feel like an adult, like he can do anything with her by his side.
I would have liked this more if there wasn't so many of Mari's 'issues' and less of the bad parenting. I loved Adam and his innocence, the way he talked about sex was awesome and I also enjoyed Zack's brotherly advice. I'm really looking forward to the next book.

"Damn, this is some heavy shit. Very underage sex, drugs, obese hoarder father, a baby choking to death.... Shouldn't she be annoyed at these guys for feeding her full of drugs and having sex with her when she was 12????!!"
