Moving, lovable, interesting.
It was a sad, sad read at times, giving the joy and love a kick. This is one hell of a romance, two cute, good and wholesome characters. Good angst, action, drama. The LOT!
Both the hero and heroine were so cute, and they made you feel for them so hard.
I'm gutted it's over, i sped through it like a banshee.
An angsty, sweetly romantic, sad and uplifting read. It started off just okay for me, but the latter half got me hooked, that last What a tear-jerker!

I enjoyed the read, despite my following points, all the characters were very likeable, and it was almost a sweet and quirky YA if it weren't f3 Stars
I enjoyed the read, despite my following points, all the characters were very likeable, and it was almost a sweet and quirky YA if it weren't for the sex scenes, which i actually thought were unneeded. The hero and heroine both felt genuine and were lovely together, i also liked the family and friends.
Mostly though, i wished it was written in the heroine's POV: It lacked the feels and i think we would've gained them from her POV. I also thought it would've been better to see the hero with her eyes, it would've certainly made some scenes more interesting. It really lacked humour that could've been injected so easily, with exception of the fish-poking. I also got quite jarred by the one dramatic scene in there, it felt too dark and fleeting in such a YA-feel-book....more
The whole thing just felt like a book draft. For eg; The amount of !!!!!!!!!!!! marks. The inconsistenties, flitting from one thing to the n2.5 Stars.
The whole thing just felt like a book draft. For eg; The amount of !!!!!!!!!!!! marks. The inconsistenties, flitting from one thing to the next without introducing a scene. The severe lack of description, apart from muscles & glasses that is. The banter that fell short because it was quick but not sharp.
The characters i didn't have a problem with, they were nice enough. The H's traumatic past didn't work for me with lack of emotion & the OTT-ness of it. The twist had me rolling my eyes.
It WAS cute, nice & easy. The H reminded me of Mal from Play by Kylie Scott. But i felt like nothing REALLY happened & that the writing needed a major overhaul....more
I'm a huge fan of Stein, so this is totally biased. Well, not totally, I do rate honestly. The problem is, is that I love Steins books. Overall, she doesn't get the best ratings and I can't help but think that's because her style doesn't appeal to the majority, but just to the minority who adore it. So, if you haven't read her works before, I would recommend at least trying her once, give her a test run, you might just find yourself in love with her slow, sensual pace, and her kink and character driven stories.
As for Never Sweeter, one of Stein's rare full length novels... Well yes, I loved it. Letty, our heroine was bullied, horrifically in high school, she's mended for two years, both physically and mentally, until she bumps into one of her bullies on her campus. He tries to make amends with her, but Letty is left wondering if this beautiful side of himself is just a trick for the most elaborate prank.
I was pretty shocked at how heavy the bullying was in the beginning, and I was unsure how Stein was going to pull us out of it, and I didn't get that until the very end, which was completely satisfying and adorable. I loved both of the characters and their emotional journey. I liked how Stein skimmed over unneeded detail and just gave us the grit and the emotion.

When Adam re-attempts to finish high school he is instantly drawn to the sweet and kind Mari. Needing nothing but to hold her hand, Mari can't resist his endearing qualities and accepts the hand holding duties. But parents, enemies, the past and the future seem to get in the way of anything more.

This is my 4th Chanse Lowell book and I kind of know what I’m letting myself in for with her. Sometimes, she gets a little extreme but all for entertainment purposes ;)
So, despite my 4 stars, I do have my reservations, and I don't think this book is for everyone. The only thing that bothered me was the extreme storyline that was Mari's past. There were too many issues and too much angst.
But, I LOVED Adam! Damn. Adam is diagnosed with 'Harkems Case' (a made up issue, close to Autism). He was very emotional, he felt things so heavily and came out with some really heartwarming speeches. Though he's emotionally stunted, he's incredibly intelligent. He also has no brain to mouth filter and is very insistent and unpredictable.
Like I said, Mari had a lot of extreme issues. She's obsessed with her weight, exercising and eating. She was involved with sex and drugs at age 12, believes she was the cause of a baby dying, obese at 15, in and out of rehab and attempted suicide... AND her mom is a slut, her dad an obese hoarder. But I still liked her, she was kick ass, she won't put up with shit from others anymore and she's trying so hard to redeem herself. She has a good heart.
I loved their relationship, they needed each other so much. She's been neglected and abandoned by her parents, he makes her feel valued and accepted, she makes him feel like an adult, like he can do anything with her by his side.
I would have liked this more if there wasn't so many of Mari's 'issues' and less of the bad parenting. I loved Adam and his innocence, the way he talked about sex was awesome and I also enjoyed Zack's brotherly advice. I'm really looking forward to the next book. [image]...more
