“Sense of smell. I know you want me. Your scent is so sweet when you are aroused. I want to lick you and feast on your desire. You’ve been torturing me for days.”

Fury is the First book in the New Species Series. This is my first time reading a Laurann Dohner novel, and I really liked it. I really love the different take on the world of shifters that she made. I have read nothing like it before and that alone made me intrigued. Add to that a evil pharmaceutical company, illegal experiments, abuse, and forbidden love and you have a must read!!

“I knew it would be this incredible,” he stated in a raspy voice. “Too good.” Anger tightened his features then for a few heartbeats. “Damn you for affecting me this strongly, Ellie.”

Fury is filled with rage. A test subject held in a cell prison experimented on and abused most of his life now he is free, and trying to help his people start their lives. He has never known kindness, or love, until Ellie. She is so small so human, he knows he should stay away, but he just can't! Fury was a Total bad ass. Possessive, super protective, sexy, fun, and strong willed. I loved Fury's character!

“I want you. I hate it but I hurt to be inside you, to know what it would feel like to have you wrapped around me, and the pleasure I think I could find with you. I’ve never wanted a woman more. Tell me I can have you or help me remember that I can’t ever forgive what you did to me. Say something, anything, to remind me why I shouldn’t hurt to be with you so much it makes it hard for me to breathe.”

“I just want you. I paced the entire time you were gone, imagining the worst. I just want inside you. I want you screaming my name and your scent filling my head. I need to feel your wet heat, to bury myself in you deep and hold you there for as long as I can keep us connected.”

“I don’t have affairs. You are the only woman I want.”

Ellie worked for Mercile not knowing the evil things they were doing. Asked to go undercover and get the info on Mercile, and help bring them down, and help free the New Species! Since the day she seen subject 416 she can't get him off her mind. In order to get the deeds on the evil pharmaceutical company she has to do things that make her sick, but she will do what ever it takes to save 416 even if she hates herself. Ellie was playful, and sassy, and very loving, but she didn't really stand out to me. She was just kind of there not bad, or anything, but not unforgettable.

Ellie shook her head. “You are going to rest or I swear I’ll borrow a Taser gun, shoot your ass, and tie you to the bed.” Fury growled viciously at her and his dark eyes narrowed. Ellie growled back at him and tugged harder. “Don’t snarl at me. I will do it right back. Now let’s get you undressed.” She glared up at him. “You are supposed to be in the hospital still. Don’t give me any shit, Fury. I love you to death but if you don’t lie down, I will borrow his Taser gun. I mean it.”

“It’s going to be all right,” Ellie promised softly. “We’re together and I’m going to sit here with you for however long it takes for you to feel better. You aren’t going to hurt me. I know you won’t because you love me as much as I love you.”

The story was a great read with tons of steamy sex, protective powerful sexy alpha males, and a strong interesting plot. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves PRN!! I am on to the next book. I will leave you with my favorite moment from the book.

Ellie moved closer, rising to her tiptoes to brush her lips against his ear. “I love your ass and the fact that you’re totally healed up. I can’t wait to get you alone.” “Ellie?” Slade spoke. Ellie turned her head. “I’m talking over here.” “And we’re all listening,” Slade chuckled while he tapped his ear. “Keen hearing. Glad to know Fury is back to a hundred percent though.” Blushing, Ellie glared at him. “What is it with you guys? Couldn’t you at least pretend you didn’t hear that?” Slade winked. “Where would be the fun in that? You blush so cutely.”

Veronica Rosa I loved this book. It was a great introduction to the series. Some of the others were meh to me, but overall, I enjoy them.
There are certain secondary characters that I am DYING to see more of and have their story told.

Gah! I'm afraid for when the withdrawal happens for me. I keep telling myself to pace them. I mean I have PLENTY of other books that I do actually need to read... but wouldn't you know, at least once a week recently I find myself devouring a New Species.

The only thing keeping me from doing that is alternating with a few other series that I'm burning through. Normally I vary them much more, but this time I'm alternating pretty much between this series, an Alien series, and a Steampunk series. Peppered in with some other options via audiobook (I get to listen to audiobooks all day at work, so between that and my commute (45 minute bus commute- not bad so long as I have my Nook with me, which I always do), I burn through books generally every 2 days.

Sigh. I really need a job that pays me to read.

Elle Thanks for this enthusiastic review, Jessica! I found your Daniel Radcliffe gif highly entertaining and just loved your use of quotes. ツ I must, however, respectfully disagree with your analysis that this work is a "different take on the world of shifters". The New Species are not supernatural creatures who change shape. They are genetically engineered animal/human hybrids. Their world is no more paranormal than the application of modern medicine, in vitro fertilization or gene splicing.

Jessica's Totally Over The Top Book Obsession Elle wrote: "Thanks for this enthusiastic review, Jessica! I found your Daniel Radcliffe gif highly entertaining and just loved your use of quotes. ツ I must, however, respectfully disagree with your analysis..."

Thanks Elle. I am glad you enjoyed some of my review even if you disagreed with how I labeled it shifter and paranormal genres.

message 44: by Elle (new) - rated it 5 stars

Elle You're welcome. I hope you continue enjoying the series and providing us with engaging reviews. I'm really hoping book 14 will be the story of Brass, Field, Jericho, or Vengence. ツ

message 45: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin Not trying to open a can of worms, but... I myself when tagging the New Species books often hesitate (and I can't remember if I go for it or not) over the 'paranormal' and 'shifters' tags...

However, seeing this comment, it made me curious. So looking at the wiki definition of Paranormal, technically these books would fall into that category. By the very definition of the word Paranormal: "The term "paranormal" has existed in the English language since at least 1920.[7][8] The word consists of two parts: para and normal. The definition implies that the scientific explanation of the world around us is 'normal' and anything that is above, beyond, or contrary to that is 'para'."

Now, as opposed to Shifters, as they do not 'shift' forms, that is debatable tag. But, they COULD still fall under the Cryptid category, or Cryptozoology, which both are a subset of Paranormal studies. I say Could, because the definition of Cryptid is "an animal whose existence is not confirmed by science or an animal that is considered extinct." So in the strictest sense of the definition, no they don't fall in to that because in that particular category, only because the New Species world used Science for it.

Guess it's all relative. I classify it paranormal just as I would anything that is outside the normal spectrum of 'normal'. *shrugs* The X-Files would have done a story on it if they had thought of it. ;-)

message 46: by Elle (new) - rated it 5 stars

Elle Thanks, Erin, for your analysis. I was merely speaking from the viewpoint of the world Laurann Dohner created. Of course the existence of New Species in our world is contrary to science. So, labeling it "Paranormal" for categorical purposes is a non issue. The term “Sci-Fi Romance” would also suffice.

I will, however, continue to respectfully disagree with the claim that this series is "a different take on the world of shifters." The average reader isn't coming at this review with a background in Cryptozoology. And, as this is the case, would be entirely misled by the term "shifter", which; clearly indicates a category of beings who are supernatural in nature (i.e. weres, changelings, etc).

It would be such a shame if, based on this review, a person approached this series expecting a new spin on actual form-changing shifters. My aim was to put the true premise of the series out there to avoid potential misunderstandings. So long as people know this series is in no way, shape or form about shifters, I'm satisfied. ツ

message 47: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin I will definitely agree with everything you said right there. (I just play devils advocate far too much lol. But like I said, I wasn't trying to open a can of worms or anything)

:-)

Ashlie Haven’t red this book yet. I am a huge fan black dagger brotherhood series! Omg best yet dis far! If not red I recommend it. Highly!
