Dark Notes is a full on erotic romance with BDSM themes, angst and drama.

I enjoyed the read and the trip it took me on. The difficulty, and my deduction of a star comes down to the trope of student/teacher BDSM. I think it must've been very hard for Godwin to pull off something unique whilst using an overdone trope. I ended up falling into a few holes that made me roll my eyes; like his parents knowing his bedroom antics, the ex, the fuckbuddy...

That said, there were many things that was distinctly unique and really enjoyable to read. The – many - sex scenes were scorching hot with vivid imagery, the hero was wicked, clever and damn if he didn't make me melt a few times. I loved our heroine when she got feisty, and i felt for her so much.

I was wary when I realised that the heroine was going from domestic & sexual abuse only to be in a BDSM relationship, but Godwin wrote that really well too. It was laden with emotional & mental understanding of the characters choices & turn ons.

So apart from a bit of cheese here and there, some things that were unneeded and made for eye-rolls, the book was a good one and fought it's way to becoming immensely enjoyable with an epic-love story.
