Trickery (Curse of the Gods, #1)

This book is hilarious. At first I almost DNFed because it seemed like the main girl was so stupid that I didn't think I could take it. But, I have seen how much everyone loved it and decided to give it a chance. I'm so glad I did.
Yes, the heroine is clumsy. She's a walking disaster area who is a danger to herself and anyone around her. Actually, "walking disaster" is inaccurate because she never makes it more than a few steps without tripping, running into something, or falling down stairs.
"How the hell have you stayed alive this long?" he asked.
I shrugged, trying to catch my breath. "No idea, it's been a rough road."
Willa gets chosen to serve the gods-in-training at some special god-school. These semi-gods have powers and are hoping to be chosen to live in their own version of Mount Olympus someday. Willa is such a nightmare - everyone around her has a tendency to get hurt or bald - that her town actually celebrates when she leaves.
Upon her arrival at the school, she draws the attention of five brother not-gods who are known for 'breaking' their servants. They start a bet over who can get her a death sentence the fastest. Luckily, Willa DOES have a brain in her body because she enters this bet and because of this, her and the brothers end up friends. Cuz, who doesn't like someone who is willing to take a death sentence on a bet? Personally, I can understand this a little. My family is willing to take jokes too far. I think that there have been plenty of times when we would have been sentenced to death for offending rooms full of people if that was a thing. I'm remembering a certain 9/11 joke I told that didn't go over too well. That was an uncomfortable Christmas.
And muttering, "too soon?" afterwards never seems to help..
Anyway. The brothers are awesome! They have no respect, are super hilarious, and dangerous in every way. Willa ends up becoming their little pet. And, all I could say was, "Way to go, Willa!" If I had to be someone's pet, these brothers would be my top pick as owners. I really want her to end up with all five of these guys. Is that wrong?
Well, maybe not such a great idea after all
I would highly recommend this book if you need to be cheered up and want some silly fun. There were fights, blood, and other serious elements, but the best part was the humor.

I hope you like it, Maria! If you go in knowing that the heroine is not the brightest bulb in the pack, you will enjoy it more. ;D

Hmm, this sounds funny. I dnf-ed the other book I read by this author, Dragon Marked: Supernatural Prison.
Saya - I know, right? There is no way to choose. Plus, they are awesome as a group. ;)
Monty - if you hate it, I will read something that you pick and know I will hate. It seems only fair. :D
Cyndi - I hope you like it. It's a lot of silly fun.
Christina - I was lol-ing, so I hope you do too!

Jilly, I know you know your stuff so this will be on my mind when I pick the next book (I really need something to cheer me up)
Jilly, not so spoiler alert, it's a reverse-Harem book. Your dreams of her being with all the guys may be fulfilled! :P
Ahhh. I loved this one so much. I'm honestly checking on Janes review team every day for the sign up for book 2!

Yasssss! I loved this, it's everything you said. I read the Supernatural Prison series as well, I love the humor these two authors use in their writing.
If y'all are looking for a suggestion on another series that I believe is truly amazing: Talisman by S. E. Akers. It's unique, it has a realistic heroine, and it's got a lot of laughs. Just my two cents.
So any suggestions on what other books I should read that have the same style as Jaymin and Jane? I'm reading some of their other stuff but I want some more humor and the other stuff is a bit heavier. I feel like you and I are on the same page. Thanks!

Thanks, Ahnna!
If you are looking for funny and crazy, there is this one series that uses Nordic mythology that cracked me up:
The Unleashing
If you want funny with dragons:
Dragon Actually
Funny vampire series:
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs
I'll check out the ones you mentioned too! :)

Fantastic fun read.
I laughed out loud. Couldn't help but love the Willa....couldn't help but love the 1-5 brothers either. Humorous writing. Could develop the relationship a tad more…delve into what the brothers are thinking. A chapter here and there. And is she gaining powers? From the fight scene, it appeared she was. Waiting, not so patiently, for the next one.

Thanks, Ladies!
I know, Jennifer! I can't wait for the next one! I would love it if we got some brother POV's. :)

Thanks for the review. I'm 20% in and was super close to closing that sucker and ignoring it for the rest of my days. I'll continue because of your review.
I hear ya, Uleesheart! I was really close to tossing it myself. I hope it also grows on you, like it did for me. It helps if you just enjoy the humor and hotties. ;)
OMG I loved this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol! I like how you think, Book! ;)

Okay after reading your review I will try to continue even though I feel like this is not my kind of book, and I'm only one chapter in.
Willa feels like such a cliché of clumsy and stupid. She feels so one sided like a bad comic relief and then things pop up that makes absolutely no sense. How can she be clever enough to break in and change her school records without being noticed until after the fact, but then be stupid enough to not realize that you have to open the door to the oven to actually allow a thing trapped inside to get out.
Oh and another thing why does the author change the name of second, hour, day, month, and year. But then choose to let week have its regular name, and why even do it, does it have any kind of influence on the story or does she just want to make it difficult for the reader?

I hear ya, Isabella! lol! Your complaints are valid and I was seriously questioning everyone who gave this a good review at the beginning of this book too. But, it won me over. I hope it wins you over as well. :)
These reviews cracked me up. 😂 I found her ridiculous in the entire story, but the guys were interesting enough to keep me reading along and I also laughed out loud at her antics and ability to laugh at herself.
She was ridiculous, but super funny. Sometimes ridiculous characters annoy me too much to enjoy them, but I also liked how she laughed at herself.
So...what you're saying its, your Christmases are much like mine? LOL This sounds like an interesting read. I will blame you if I hate it :) HUGS! lol
That depends, Val... does yours involve loud drunks, passive aggressive comments flying, at least one major fight, and possibly a night in jail?
I hope you like it. But, if you don't - I swear I hated it too. ;)

Not really, Jules. There were a few moments of flirtation with the brothers, but I wouldn't say it qualifies as "romance". I'm guessing there will be more in the books to come. :)
I’m on the first 15% of the book according to my Kindle and all I can say is I WANT MY BRAINCELLS back. But your review gives me hope that this book will get better. Because honestly right now she is so stupid I’m not sure how much longer I can stand it. I’m trying to earn a masters degree, not get my bachelors taken away from me.
Camila and Katrin - I really did feel the same way. I almost shut it down. But, in the end, it was really a lot of fun.
(Or maybe I just got used to the idiocy! ;))

I’m trying to see if I want to finish this or not. I’m at 7% and the character comes off as so stupid and clumsy that I don’t know if I can stomach this. I’ll push on because of your review. I hope it gets better.

That's exactly how I felt at the beginning. It was just too stupid and I was going to DNF, but I went on and either it got really funny or I inadvertently lowered my standards without meaning to. ;)

Yeah I also had to push first 2-3 chapter and now I can’t stop laughing! This girl is a walking disaster! Your review is on point! Thx!

Right? I think the people who hate it just couldn't get past that initial period of stupidity. haha!

I DNFed it too. Her clumsiness at the start was annoying lol. Great review though! Might give this another shot after sometime.

I get it.
I was surprised that I pushed past my initial irritation with the stupidity of the heroine. But, I'm glad I did! :)
