"Invantory Management"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

It offers a vast, deep, and time-tested set of modules covering almost every major business function, including Finance (FI), Controlling (CO), Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Sales and Distribution (SD), and Human Capital Management (HCM).

SAP offers standard enterprise support for ECC (with mainstream maintenance currently scheduled until the end of 2027, and extended support available after that). The core benefit is access to SAP's highly technical, deep knowledge base, which is necessary for a system of this complexity.

Ease of use is widely considered ECC's greatest weakness, primarily due to its user interface.

As an older system, SAP ECC has specific strengths and weaknesses in these areas compared to modern ERPs like SAP S/4HANA.

The strength of SAP ECC's customer support primarily comes from the maturity of the platform and the vast ecosystem of experts, rather than the newest technology.

SAP Support (Official): SAP offers standard enterprise support for ECC (with mainstream maintenance currently scheduled until the end of 2027, and extended support available after that). The core benefit is access to SAP's highly technical, deep knowledge base, which is necessary for a system of this complexity.

Ecosystem/Community: The single biggest benefit is the massive global installed base and consultant community. Almost any issue encountered has been solved before, meaning solutions, forum answers, and experienced consultants are readily available.

Third-Party Support: ECC's established nature means that mature, comprehensive third-party support and maintenance options are widely available, offering an alternative to standard SAP support for many customers.

Ease of use is widely considered ECC's greatest weakness, primarily due to its user interface.

User Interface (SAP GUI): ECC operates on the traditional SAP GUI (Graphical User Interface). While highly functional and efficient for power users trained on it, it is often described as non-intuitive, complex, and having a steep learning curve for new or casual users.

Process Complexity: The system is designed for maximum functional depth and customization. This means that even standard business processes often require navigating multiple screens and cryptic transaction codes, which contrasts with the modern, simplified, and role-based user experience (UX) of newer systems like SAP Fiori in S/4HANA.

Stability for Power Users: For long-term, highly trained users, the traditional SAP GUI is seen as a stable, robust environment for high-volume, repetitive data entry.

ECC offers flexibility in integration methods, but the process is generally more technical and complex than with modern ERPs.

Flexibility via Multiple Methods: ECC is highly adaptable and supports various integration technologies, including IDocs (Intermediate Documents) for reliable asynchronous batch processing and RFCs (Remote Function Calls) for real-time communication. This flexibility is a major advantage for connecting to a diverse landscape of legacy and third-party systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

Focusing specifically on Ease of Implementation and Frequency of Use (User Adoption), here are the key dislikes regarding SAP ECC:

1. Dislikes on Ease of Implementation

The implementation of SAP ECC is widely disliked for its inherent complexity, cost, and time commitment.

Extreme Complexity and Long Duration: ECC is a massive, highly modular system. Implementing it is not a quick installation; it is a complex, multi-year project for large enterprises. This leads to prolonged timelines and a high risk of project delays and budget overruns.

The issues with the end-user experience directly translate to low or grudging frequency of use among general employees:

Non-Intuitive, Outdated Interface (SAP GUI): This is the biggest hurdle. The classic SAP GUI is seen as a relic of the 90s. Its dense, non-graphical screens and reliance on four-digit Transaction Codes (T-codes) make it difficult and frustrating to use. Users often resort to workarounds (like using Excel) instead of using the system for simple tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable ERP backbone for large-scale operations"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

SAP ECC is an established and well-tested ERP. It has a modular design, particularly the FI, MM, SD, and PP, which makes it suitable in dealing with complicated business processes among departments. I like the fact that it is compatible with other SAP systems and external tools. When correctly configured, it works well and can execute large amounts of data without any performance problems. It is reliable and is scalable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

Its user interface is obsolete as compared to newer platforms such as S/4HANA. It is not the most user-friendly platform and it may take time to get used to it. In addition, ECC can be cumbersome to customize, and large-scale customizations will make upgrades and integrations more complex. The reporting features are functional yet not that flexible or appealing to the eyes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable but Complex ERP System for Enterprises"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

My favorite feature of SAP ECC is its ability to robustly manage complex, large-scale business processes across different departments, such as finance, logistics, and procurement, within a single integrated system. SAP ECC offers strong data integrity, customizable modules, and deep control over business operations, making it ideal for large enterprises with strict compliance and reporting requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

What I dislike about SAP ECC is its steep learning curve and outdated user interface. The system can feel unintuitive and cumbersome, especially for new or non-technical users. Customizations often require ABAP development or costly consulting support, which increases implementation and maintenance costs. Additionally, integration with modern tools and cloud-based platforms can be challenging without significant effort.

It's a very powerful system, but configuring and managing it can be just as challenging or costly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Deep Dive into SAP ECC: Review and Retrospective"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

One of the standout features of SAP ECC is its comprehensive and integrated core functionality, especially within the robust Financial Accounting (FI) and Controlling (CO) modules. This level of integration ensures a single source of truth across multiple business processes, such as procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, and production, which leads to real-time data consistency and precise financial reporting. The system's proven stability and its ability to handle complex, large-scale business operations make it a highly reliable and mature ERP solution, providing a strong foundation for effective enterprise management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

One of the main disadvantages of SAP ECC is its outdated user interface, known as SAP GUI, which many find unintuitive. This results in a steep learning curve and lower user adoption rates when compared to more modern software solutions. Additionally, the system's overall complexity and high total cost of ownership present significant challenges. Managing, maintaining, and upgrading ECC—particularly when there are extensive customizations—can be a complicated, time-consuming, and expensive process. It often necessitates hiring costly external consultants and makes adapting business processes more rigid. On top of these issues, the approaching end-of-support date for ECC (with mainstream maintenance ending in 2027) forces companies to consider a mandatory, expensive, and complex migration to S/4HANA. "Robust ERP for Complex Business Needs, But Not User-Friendly"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

What I like best about SAP ECC is the level of integration it offers across all business functions. Whether it’s finance, procurement, inventory, or sales, everything runs through a single platform, which eliminates the need for separate systems and greatly reduces data inconsistencies. The real-time reporting capabilities are another major plus—having access to live data helps us make informed decisions quickly. I also appreciate how configurable the system is; even though it has a standard structure, we’ve been able to tailor it to fit our specific processes and compliance requirements. For a large organization with complex operations, the system’s reliability and scalability really stand out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

The system can be overwhelming for new users, and even experienced employees sometimes struggle with navigating through multiple transactions and screens to perform what should be simple tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable ERP Backbone with Complex Navigation"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

SAP ECC offers extensive modular integration across business functions like Finance, HR, Procurement, and Logistics. The real-time data processing and reliability make it a dependable ERP platform for large enterprises. It supports comprehensive reporting and workflow customization, which are valuable for consultants and clients alike. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

The interface feels outdated and non-intuitive for new users. Navigation can be complex, and implementation often demands significant time and training. Its responsiveness is slower compared to cloud-native platforms. Additionally, the lack of flexibility in adapting to rapidly changing business needs can be a bottleneck in fast-paced environments. "SAP ECC's ability to integrate and automate processes"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

I appreciate SAP ECC's ability to integrate and automate procurement processes efficiently. The platform enables centralized management of supplier data, purchase orders, and contracts, facilitating informed decision-making and reducing manual errors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

While SAP ECC is a powerful tool, I find its complexity and steep learning curve to be drawbacks. Implementation and configuration can be time consuming and costly, posing a challenge for resource limited companies. Additionally, the user interface can be non-intuitive, requiring extra training for effective adoption. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The Pros and Cons of SAP ECC"
What do you like best about SAP ECC?

One of the strongest points of SAP ECC that I like is its ability to integrate various departments and business functions into a unified system. This integration ensures that data flows smoothly between functions like finance, inventory, and procurement, leading to more streamlined operations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP ECC?

One of the things that I dislike is the need for extensive customization to meet specific business requirements can lead to complex configurations, making the system harder to manage and use efficiently. Businesses often need to rely on consultants for this, which can be costly to them in the long run. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
