Re: Hope Colton To whom it may concern: I am writing this letter of support on behalf of Hope Colton a former student teacher from Nipissing University. Hope was placed with me in from February to March of this school year. She taught one section of ENG 1D, one section of ENG 4U and one section of ENG 3U. While with us, Hope demonstrated a good understanding of the English curriculum, the various texts studied to support the expectations and assessment practices. During peer moderation, Hope was able to support her choices and contribute effectively to the discussion. Further she planned three units and assessed the students in various ways to evaluate their learning. She also began with me an evaluation and assessment project with the school board. Further, Hope honed her classroom management and lesson planning skills in all classes. All classes presented academic challenges, students with IEPs, and some behavioural challenges which allowed her to reflect on her management techniques and try various strategies to have students become more successful. She learned which strategies were successful and which were not. In addition to the above, Hope demonstrated a keen interest in improving her teaching practices. She is a very reflective teacher which will serve her well in the future as she is always looking for ways to improve. She is also very keen to take part in extracurricular activities. She will be returning in May to participate in our schools annual living library. With the above in mind, I recommend that Hope be hired for a teaching position in your board. With her assets, she will make an excellent teacher. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. Regards,
Barbara Fedorowicz Head of English
